MAY WISH Goals - Monthly Thread

What do you do to celebrate a win? How do you congratulate yourself when you've done a great job, or gotten to a weight loss goal, etc?

My first response would also probably be to celebrate by having a sweet treat. If I'm celebrating reaching a weight goal it would be to go buy new clothing. I tend to just recognize and celebrate the big things, and really need to focus on picking out little things as well... like some days just showing up to work is a huge win and I should give myself a pat on the back.

As it turns out, my boss relented and I did get to move to the back desk - yay, small victories. And he isn't even going to move in to our pod, since he's planning on putting the new engineer (when hired) at the desk he was going to take - yay, another victory. He's a great guy, but having some space should be a very nice thing.

Speaking of nice things, last night I had a massage for the first time since last fall. It really, really helped and I'm planning on doing a couple more in the coming weeks. It should help me get back on my feet and start getting my steps in again. Time to celebrate!

Hello, hello! So sorry I'm late today!

Topic Tuesday! What do you do to celebrate a win? How do you congratulate yourself when you've done a great job, or gotten to a weight loss goal, etc?

For me, it's been really hard to do. When I had a great day at the office doing a presentation, my first thought was that I wanted to celebrate with a Starbucks frappe or some sweet drink. I actually found myself planning it as I walked to the train station. Then I stopped (literally!) and said that I wasn't going to use my feeling positive to make me go off plan.

Since then, I've tried to figure out ways to celebrate - without food! Haven't come to a conclusion yet.

I think all too often my celebrations tend to involve food. However, previously I would celebrate through some method of binge eating, now I'll enjoy a quality steak, or excellent, well-made sushi. My long term goals often involve getting a new suit or sports jersey.

I love buying myself new workout gear as reward! I have way too much but I guess it gets a lot of use/love.

Celebrating occasions - we do fun days out but meals and drinks have also place in my opinion. The trip in 4 weeks will be to mark my 40th bday!

WhooHoo Wednesday - 4 weeks to holiday. I can not wait!!

Woo Hoo Wednesday! Tell us your successes this week! This could be a scale or non-scale victory, or just something that makes you smile to think about!

Topic Tuesday:
I used to celebrate with food. I still sometimes do. Not necessarily something sweet or so. Instead I will get something healthy that is more on the pricier side and therefore a treat. For example I would get a pineapple or an artichoke. Or buy some filet steaks to grill myself. I also like to buy glossy magazines as a treat instead of for example an ice cream bar.

Woohoo Wednesday:
This weeks woohoo is that I am feeling healthy again, so far the week was very productive and I am not doing tooo badly eating wise. I still need to get back into tracking more regularly, I let this slip again while being sick... So, I will have to be good and tonight I will post another woohoo about being good with tracking!!

Woohoo it's Wednesday again already?

Last weekend I noticed a new/different bird in the garden, it caught my attention because it's song was so different. I tried searching on-line to figure out what it was but didn't come up with anything. Last night when I was out watering I saw it again, and its mate, so they are nesting somewhere close. I went back in and did another internet search and this time found it - a Spotted Towhee. While I was outside three Hummingbirds were flitting around as well... this all makes me very happy, so happy it may actually inspire me to spend time working in the back yard over the coming holiday weekend.

I'm going to put this here, mostly to convince myself that it is woohoo-able. My boss has tapped me to do a presentation on my project at the next all-team meeting. It's a good thing because it increases my "visibility", and that is the theme for the month, isn't it?

I'm now about a month away from my trip to Alaska! I have decided to cancel WDW in September, and am thinking possibly late Feb early March instead. Now I get to think about what else I'll want to do in Spetember... I have a feeling it will involve beach time!

Edited to add: Well that didn't take long... I am now holding September reservations for three nights at a fun/funky hotel west of Portland followed by three nights at my home-away-from-home on the Washington Coast.

It's just over two days until DW and I fly to Anaheim for the weekend! I can't wait to get back in the parks. I'm also excited to finally ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout.

I'm pushing toward reaching my 11 lb weight loss, although I'm not sure eating at Pixar Fest will help that cause. The good news is that I can see and feel changes happening. My pants are looser in the waist, but tighter in the legs. Of course, that's what doing squats three times a week should do.

Where in Alaska are you going? My parents took my sister and I on an Alaskan cruise in 2013 and I found the region so incredibly beautiful. I would love to travel inland to Anchorage and Denali though.

Also, I pulled up the Spotted Towhee's song and call. It's amazing how such a beautiful sound can come from such a small animal.

I'm going to a knitting retreat in Cordova, in the Copper River Delta. I've not been to Alaska before, it'll be State #43 in my quest to visit all 50.

It was the beautiful song that caught my attention... the other birds hanging out around the house are all more chirpy, except for the Crows and Jays of course.

Only 4 weeks - time to start packing!

It's such intense time to be in Ireland right now! a lot of emotions, i can't wait for all of that to be over. I can't think about anything else, healthy eating thoughts are out the window!

On the good side, I have some solid healthy habits build that I know will carry me through this without hitting a tub of ice cream

Good morning -- it's Topic Thursday! For those of us in the US, we're coming up on a holiday weekend. Tell us your plan to stay on track over the weekend, in the midst of picnics, gatherings, etc. What are your goals for staying on plan for the weekend?

I'm scheduled to walk (my knees won't let me jog) my first 5K on Saturday morning. I'm a little concerned because the website says no walkers for it. But I figure it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission. And I'll stay out of the way of the hardcores. Saturday night, DH and I are going out for our anniversary (28 years!), and I've planned my food ahead of time. Sunday is a graduation party, and I'm hoping for veggies....

Monday, DH is playing Taps for a Memorial Day service at a local cemetery - DD and I will go as well.

There aren't any family gatherings planned, so no picnics to navigate. I've been thinking about doing a road trip somewhere one day, maybe heading up towards the mountains. I had thought about doing a whale watching tour up to the San Juan Islands but as of now have decided not to spend the $$$. The Nordic Museum opened their new building a couple weekends ago, and going there is definitely on the list. Other than that I'm determined to get work done outside in the yard, as both the front and the back need attention. And I plan to get my steps going again - at work there's a sponsored step challenge coming up in June that I signed up for, so I need to get moving. My (tentative) plan for each day is to do some indoor chores early, then head out to do something fun, and in the evening work out in the yard/garden. The weekend weather forecast looks darn near perfect, with some cloud cover and temps in the 70's.

I have a business trip coming up next week, it's on the company plane which is always sweet. Its so nice to just park at the hanger and have the plane right there, no security, no fuss, no bother. Part of pre-trip prep will be to clean out the fridge and that'll lend itself to better eating, as I'll only buy enough green veggies for smoothies over the weekend and will probably eat meals out. The work trip is to visit one of our facilities on the east coast, and the days will be long with a lot of time spent on my feet (adding to the step count!), so I need to clean up my eating over the weekend so that I'm feeling better and have the stamina to make the most of the trip.

Happy Thursday everyone - we're in the home stretch!

Good morning! Free-for-All Friday! If the Blue Fairy gave you $100 to spend on yourself, how would you spend it?

I'm afraid I'd put it on my Starbucks card, or 50/50 with Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts. I like coffee. Other people's coffee.

If the Blue Fairy gave you $100 to spend on yourself, how would you spend it?

I'd probably want to spend it on new walking shoes. My work boots aren't exactly comfortable for long walks, and I love my sandles but they rub my toes a bit when doing the treadmill. I really need to get used to walking more (for exercise) and find a really good pair of walking shoes before our Disney trip in November.

I'd keep in it my pocket until I go to Alaska next month, and then sign up for an extra tour during some of the open time during the retreat.

Today is the day I have to give my presentation, ah hem, make that get to give my presentation. I've been telling myself how excited I am to be able to do it, because it's something I really enjoy, and am really good at... tee hee... It's all good practice, because how can you get better at something if you aren't doing it?

Then its off for the lovely three day weekend (here in the US)!

Tuesday: I used to celebrate with food, but now it just seems so counterproductive. I wanted to eat an entire cake whenever I hit 100 pounds lost, but I didn't do it because of how much I've worked to get there. Now I just tell friends when I hit a big milestone. It makes me feel good to tell them that I've lost "x" amount of pounds whenever I hit a new milestone. Some of their reactions are also kind of humorous. My boss thinks I should have stopped 20 pounds ago.

Wednesday: I saw a picture of myself volunteering at an event for the local Humane Society from last week. I totally didn't realize it was me at first and did a bit of a double take.

Thursday: I'm going to use my app and continue to count my calories like I always do.

Friday: I'd probably apply it to my second Disney vacation in September. If that doesn't count, then I'd buy new (smaller) pants. They don't fit me anymore and I'm too stubborn / cheap to go out and buy new ones.

I really don't celebrate my victories. Wahoo DS1 is home for the holiday weekend. Nothing special is planned this weekend. It will be just the same old, same old. I am horrible at spending money! The big joke in my family is that I still have the first nickel I ever owned. My sneakers are getting a hole in the big toe where they always get a hole so I'd probably go buy some new shoes. When I ran $100 would cover about two thirds of the cost of a new pair. Now I just go down to Big 5 and look on their sale table until I find something that fits and buy it. So I could probably have two pair on the blue fairy!!

DH had this last week off and has been a madman around the house! So much has gotten done. It is wonderful. A new project I'm making him do (that wasn't on his list!) is remove all the grass from along the fence in the back yard. I'm sick of seeing it grow tall against that white fence! I spent an hour the other night digging one section. It was hard work and my hands were so sore! DH finished the section yesterday. Today I suggested we rent a sod remover, but DH wasn't keen on that idea. He's already bought the cement bricksy things to be the edge of it. So maybe by the end of summer we'll have a lovely border I can put some plants in! It's nice to have lots of daylight because each evening I've been going out and doing lots of yardwork! I'm discovering muscles I didn't know I had.
