Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE RESORT Information & Questions

Got the email today too. Does anyone know if they have released the tentative schedule showing when each building is scheduled for refurb?

I’m there for the first two weeks in August so called Disney. There’s no construction work, it’s just a room refurb and will be on a room to room basis. Very unlikely to cause any disturbance and as I’ll likely be in Magnolia Bend I won’t see anything at all
We stayed at POFQ during the last room remodel and it had no effect on our trip. One building was shut down but everything else was fine.

Any way of finding out where the refurb will begin?

The POR room refurbs will start with Alligator Bayou, currently scheduled to commence in July. I would expect that the AB section will take about 6 months or so to complete, then they'll move on to the mansion buildings. The pool closure mentioned would most likely be a pool closest to wherever work is going on (I expect).

We have a pre park opening (as of now) breakfast booked for MK. How would that work with the buses or should we plan on driving ourselves?
Last May, we had an 8:20 PPO ADR. I believe we got to the south bus stop around 7:25 and were on our way without trouble. I believe we were checked in at BOG by 8:10 at the latest. I'm pretty sure the buses to MK start at least 1 hr before the first ADR offered...I'm sure someone will chime in if I'm mistaken.

After posting about the advantages of staying off property, a friend introduced me to a cast member who got into Port Orleans French Quarter for an incredible rate. I have some questions on Port Orleans French Quarter.

* Grocery Shopping - Read Safeway is a good choice. We plan to eat breakfast in the room.
* How often do the shuttle buses run to the parks?
* How long of a drive to each park?
* Any general tips you would like to share?

For working out how long it takes to get from hotel to the various parks, I've found this invaluable http://www.ourlaughingplace.com/aspx/twiz.aspx

Thank you! I knew room refurbs were coming and that doesn't bother us at all. I just want to be near an open quiet pool.

For early morning arrival at MK the bus works best. It is also possible to get an Uber to The Contemporary, then walk to MK. Minnie vans will drop you off at the bus area of MK but are often very hard to get in early morning.

Thank you! Just the info I need :)

I’ve just defected to Riverside from CSR (due to their pool closure) in October, so am frantically trying to learn all about our new resort.

Is Boatwrights the restaurant that gets such awful reviews? I think it is, but I didn’t pay any attention to it as I didn’t plan to visit POR except to see Yeeha Bob. If not Boatwrights, where would our best place to eat on our arrival night? We don’t want to leave the resort to eat, as we will arrive late after a 9 hour flight. Thanks!

Boatwrights is the Table Service restaurant at POR, not sure about awful reviews. That's news to me. We really like it.

The food court has very good options.

Pillows.

I will be staying at POR for 11 nights in June and I need to know what the pillows are like there. Does anyone know what type of fill material is in the pillows? Are they hard? soft? I'm dealing with a pinched nerve in my neck and I'm wondering if I need to bring my own pillow - I don't want to because it would take up half a suitcase or one carryon. I love the Marriott pillows and they don't bother my neck - how do these compare?

We just left there this morning. I didn’t look at the tags but loved the pillows. A little firm but moreover on the soft side. I tend To hog most of them though lol.

I can’t answer your question, but if you do have to take your own pillow, look into the travel vacuum bags that expel air by rolling them up. That would make a big difference to how much space a pillow would take up. I think the brand I have is called Pack Mate.

How late? The food court closes at midnight and will be very limited selection after 10 pm. You might want to grab something at the airport if stuff is still open there even.

Don't know if I missed it earlier in the thread, but do we know anything about what they are doing to refurb the rooms at Alligator Bayou? Will they be removing most of the theming, as they have done for other recent refurbs? (To me the theming in the rooms is the best part of staying onsite, so I think it's too bad if they remove it.)

Hi! I'm planning a trip for October and am strongly considering POR. I'm looking at a King room. How can I make sure I'm not in a room way out in the mansions across the river?
My dream King room would be top floor, river view.
When we stayed at POR years ago we were out there and it was way too far.
Would it be wiser for me to book a queen room instead of King to get a river view top floor, since there are more rooms in that category?
Thanks for your help!

When we stayed at POR last year, we requested, and were assigned, room 8742 in the mansions, and it was THE PERFECT ROOM. The river view was just beautiful, it was right by the bridge to Ol' Man Island, so was only a few minutes walk to the food court, all round it was just perfect. Don't discount the mansions just yet..

That’s a very good point. It depends how long it takes to get through immigration at MCO, but probably 9:30pm, maybe later. I think you might be right about getting food at the airport or on our way to the resort. Thank you!
