Staying on harbor but UBER to DTD side?

For our next trip we will be with a large group of 8-10 people.Most the group it is their first trip, or first in 30+ years. And they will only have 1 day. We are staying on Harbor at BWPPI. The last few trips we have stayed at harbor, and bag check has been a nightmare. And then we stayed at BW Stovalls, walked up and used the hotel bag check, and it was amazing. Walked right through.
So I am wondering if anyone staying at harbor has Ubered over to the other entrances like DTD or hotel entrance? Trying to save as much time as possible and reduce stress. Will be with a grandpa who can't do crazy long lines like bag check on harbor has been.

We were just there last week and the security lines on Harbor were not bad at all - the longest we waited was like 5 minutes, if that and this was when we showed up about half an hour before park opening. Now if you are going during a much busier time such as spring break then perhaps it might be worth it but I am just saying we did not see the madness we were prepared for.

Partial answer:
GCH only allows Uber to drop off registered hotel guest (or guests with dining reservations).
This is might be to prevent what you are trying to do, since the GCH security screening is too small to handle extra guests.
GCH does allow Taxis to drop off non-registered guests.

I've never done that, but I don't see why you couldn't. I'm not sure if it would actually save you time, but since grandpa can't stand through long lines it might save you some standing. Since the designated drop-off for Disneyland is on the Harbor side, I'm not sure if Disney has rules about where you can be dropped off on the DTD side - you might have to be dropped off at one of the hotels. If you have young kids in the group make sure to consider the car seat issue.

Personally, I feel like ubering to the other side defeats the purpose of staying at BWPPI and if this were my plan I would stay somewhere nicer and/or cheaper farther away, since I'd be commuting anyway. I'm not convinced it would save any time, especially if you can't be dropped off close to security. You would potentially save some time standing in line, but you would have a longer walk to the parks plus the time waiting for the uber and actually driving over. If you are concerned about grandpa standing in the security line, I would suggest renting a wheelchair because security is just the first of many, many lines.

Partial answer:

They can just go to the DTD drop off.

From what I've heard the no-bag line is only available intermittently.

LOL I do not believe it is intermittent. It is zero.

WDW can manage a no bags line. DLR can't for some reason. Apparently because DLR visitors do not understand you cannot bring bags through the "no bag" line.

You can always cross the street and check out the lines first. I think they’ve gotten a lot quicker. There’s also a no bag line that’s faster

I agree that it might save some "standing in line time" but likely won't save any actual time. And add me to the group that has never seen a "no bag" line at DLR.

They've had a "no bag" line on the Harbor side more often than not so far in 2018, but it's not always there. It wasn't this past Sunday afternoon, but there also weren't lines at security. It was around for most of February, including most mornings and a few afternoons. (I was there 9 times in February, and I used the Harbor security every time.) I did notice quite a few people go into the "no bag" line with a bag (like a purse) in spite of the GIANT SIGNS and CMs making announcements, though...

To the OP: while what you're suggesting may be possible, I agree with the other posters that it defeats the purpose of staying on Harbor and also may definitely end up being more time/hassle than just going through the Harbor side. The Harbor side certainly can be a nightmare, but it may not be depending on your date and timing, or if they do end up having a "no bag" line at the time you're entering... I'd just prepare people for the possibility of a wait, and I agree with PP's suggestion of a wheelchair if possible.

I've seen a few recent posts talking about a no-bag line, but personally I've never seen it. I think they were probably testing it on-and-off. Also the posts I've seen were talking about the M&F security check so I don't know if they even tested it on Harbor or DtD. But if there are members of your group who don't handle lines well, it's worth at least looking to see if the no-bag line has materialized. Then you can take their bags and send them through and have them wait on a bench.

I still think a wheelchair is a better bet though since nearly all ride lines and sometimes even food and bathroom lines are going to be just as slow as security, and even when you aren't standing in line sometimes it can be tough to find a place to sit in the parks. I have visited with a painful foot injury before and had to use a wheelchair intermittently, and for me security lines were never an issue - it was the rest of the day that made the wheelchair necessary.

We have been there Nov. 17 and Jan and Feb 18 on weekends with harbor lines halfway down the bus lane and no "no bag" line which is a shame since we never take one. Just a collapsible water bottle.

I'd love to hear from someone that has done this! It seems like it could save some time and definitely a lot of hot standing around and jostling.

Our last visit was Thanksgiving week 2017 and the security mass (not a line) was packed body-to body and into the busing areas. It took us 45 minutes every morning to get through security. I was seriously considering taking a Lyft to DTD and trying to enter from that side.

There has been a "No Bag Line" on Harbor side for the last month, but it is usually only during the peak times of day.

To the OP, you can drop at DTD, but you will have to walk the length of DTD, so not sure that would really offset.

I agree with others than if you wish to enter the esplanade through DTD that it defeats the point of staying right across the entrance to Disneyland on Harbor. I also agree that if you can get Grandpa a wheelchair or ECV that would help with much more than just a security line.
