Should I change resorts?

We are booked for Wilderness Lodge for the week of July 4th. We have stayed here before but our family does love it! However, if we were to happen to get a discount for either the Beach or Yacht club for the same price, would you switch? One thing I like about Wilderness Lodge is the boat to Magic Kingdom. Is it a hassel to park and take the ferry to MK? Or is it easier to take the bus? We will be renting a car. Thanks!

First, I LOVE wilderness lodge. But, it is really great to be able to walk to Epcot and DHS. The pool at Beach and Yacht is great. We have always had good bus service there so I would not drive, especially not to MK where you need to park and ferry anyway. If you have never stayed at Beach or Yacht before I would give it a go, it's fun to try something new.

Just came from WL this past week, and it instantly became my 2nd favorite resort behind Poly, as being on Bay Lake is just "magic". IMO, our YC stay this past December while, nice as it was, just did not have that "magical" sense about it. The rooms are slightly smaller at WL, but this did not bother us at all, and we found them really comfortable. Dining is limited in terms of QS at YC/BC, but not sure how that impacts your plans. As far as the boat to MK, I personally love that ride. Some say the ability to walk to Epcot is what sells YC/BC, but I guess it just depends where you plan on spending most of your time because, either way you're going to have to rely on buses to MK/Epcot.

This is the exact choice we faced for our upcoming trip.
We loved our stay at WL CL in 2015! The bus and boat transportation was excellent. We loved the lobby, Territory Lounge, the arcade, and the grounds. The kids did not love the pool. The rooms were good, the balcony was great very early or late. CL was wonderful. Housekeeping was above average.
But this time, since our kids are now both teens, we went with YC. We love the remodel, the balconies, the daybed, the updated shower, and “wood” floors. We also think the kids will enjoy the pool, the Boardwalk, the arcade, and the restaurants.
We love EPCOT, especially WS and Illuminations! I am somewhat concerned about buses to MK, but we are super excited to be staying in a new resort area!

You can’t go wrong with either choice!

Count me in as torn between WL and YC for a November trip!!! I've stayed at WL before which is why I'm leaning to YC. But, the person I'm traveling with has never stayed at WL and we ate there once and he said he would love to stay there. I'm also hoping to do MVMCP and WL is a much easier commute at midnight from MK. I also just feel more comfortable on the MK side because I know how to get around easy and know all my favorites. But, I've always wanted to stay at the Epcot/Boardwalk Area. It would be new for planning and seeing more of what WDW has to offer. I always say that I'll stay at BC/YC or BWI when I go for F&W but then I've never planned any trips around F&W.

I'm also thinking of perhaps Contemporary for the first time! I feel like the Contemporary may just feel like any other hotel though because its theming doesn't seem to have a "magical" feel to me. But having the monorail there for MK and Epcot will feel magical, and the view of Bay Lake will be beautiful. And I love CG. Plus it would give me a lot of flexibility to get to Poly and GF for some of the other restaurants I enjoy. But, then I'd probably go to all my favs instead of trying something new.

But like an earlier poster said, we probably can't go wrong with any of our choices!

If you will spend the majority of your time in MK, stick with WL. If most of your time will be in EP and DHS, I would switch. I would recommend using the bus to MK so you won't have to park at TTC if you switch to an EP resort.

I guess my decision will depend on if I can get a discount to BC/YC because if I can’t one then we will definitely stay with WL.

We will be doing 2 half days and 1 full day at MK, 2 to 3 half days at Epcot and 1 1/2 days at HS so it is pretty even as far as which parks we will be in.

That’s a hard decision for me too. Love them both. For 4th of July you can see the MK fireworks from the WL boat dock I think. And if you have a high room facing MK you can see the fireworks too. They cut down a ton of trees to build the cabins, opening up the views. WL is one of my fav resorts.

Agree with not driving to MK. From WL you have a direct boat service, and from YC it’s just easier to take the bus. It is a hassle to drive to TTC, find a parking spot, wait for tram to take you to the ferry or monorail.
At YC unless you’re doing other stuff out side of WDW imo it’s a waste to rent a car. Bus to MK, walk to Epcot, and walk or boat to DHS. The only park it’s an advantage to drive to is AK and I don’t see that in your plans. AK is amazing, esp since they opened Pandora.

Good luck in deciding!

So after reading through the Disboards today and thinking about the schedule for my trip, I'm thinking I may actually try a split stay this trip. I've never done a split stay, but I'm not traveling with kids so packing up and changing resorts doesn't seem too big a pain with my schedule. Would that be something that might work where you can stay WL for your MK/AK days and then YC for your Epcot/DHS and any days you may have relaxing at the resort?

I was going to suggest a split stay. It will give you the opportunity to try a new resort while having the backup of staying a resort you know you love. We have found that works best for us when trying a new resort. It also will give you the best of both worlds for transportation depending on how you schedule your days.

I hadn’t thought about a split stay. It’s a possibility.

I just created a thread asking about my split stay strategy - LOL! I think it makes the most sense for my plans but I'm basing it on a lot of guesses. But I am thinking about YC and CR now...although I may change back to WL and YC. Good luck!

many options and possibilities. Do you you have kids, how old. Will they use the pool at BC?
We love both resorts for different reasons.
I would seriously consider a split stay. Other than the hassle of packing up everything midway through your stay, they make moving very easy.
WL is beautiful and quieter than many other resorts.
Staying at BC is so convenient to get to EPCOT and HS makes it so easy and worth switching considering the number of days you will be at those parks.
Good luck. I don't think you can make a bad choice here.

I think a better question to ask is where will you be spending most of your nights at? If your Epcot half days are in the evening then it will be better to stay at the BC/YC because it would only take about 10-15 minutes to get back to the room.

I have stayed at both. It’s great to walk to Epcot and HS and YC has a nice pool. Do not care for the convention crowd. Usually real busy around the pool, bar, and area with conventioneers. With that said I would still stay there again, but my first choice is WL. Very peaceful and laid back resort. Detailed design, and easy access to MK. Never had a problem with the boat. It’s our favorite.

Ive stayed at WL and YC (newly refurbished room too). I would pick wilderness lodge every time. YC has a slightly larger room but not much of a difference and it just feels like a nice hotel. The wilderness lodge though feels like magic, its very special, the public areas are themed so beautiful and the boat ride to MK is wonderful. I even prefer the pool at WL because its better themed. Stormalong bay was nice but to me it just seemed like a big pool.

I would say that both WL and BC are wonderful resorts. We’re staying at the BC this summer because DH likes to walk into Epcot or visit the Boardwalk in the evening. Those are great conveniences. BC/YC is a lot of fun. The pool is lovely. I love the WL, too. But, if you haven’t stayed in the Epcot area resorts, a stay at YC or BC is a great experience.
