How far in advance do you book your flights?

We have reservations in June at the DL Hotel. I still have not made our flight reservations. I'm keep thinking they will get cheaper! So, do you make them far in advance or a couple of months?

I booked our September trip via Alaska the other week. It was 200 round trip out of Seattle. Didn't think it would be cheaper then that. It is so hard to decide when to book it!

There are three of us. We find that if we don't book at least three months in advance, we wont be able to sit together on the plane. The best results are when we book 6 mos out like we have for our vacation this year (sadly not DLR).

I book 6 months out with Southwest and change them if a cheaper flight comes along. But this only works with Southwest due to changing flights is free with them.

I buy as soon as I decide on my dates... and typically decide my dates in part by the best fare finder on my airline's website.

There is absolutely no way to predict when the best time to buy is. Good thing is that when I book with Alaska and the price drops I can get a credit to use on a future flight.

I bought our tickets for our June vacation in January. We book with Southwest. I originally booked going into LAX but have since changed (no change fee!) to SNA. I still check prices everyday to see if flights have gone lower. We have a surprise WDW trip in December so hoping to get a credit for those flights!

we bought in Dec for out April trip.. got 8 days and return flights for $361 . wasnt going to say no to that !

We are going in early July. I booked the flights this week. Prices were low considering how far I’m traveling. I jumped on it. Look now.

I love SW! I book as soon as they open their dates and change as needed. I am always a nervous wreck booking any other lines - but I know it is not an option for everyone.

We have flown Southwest the last few times we went and loved it, but now they got rid of the direct flights from either SEA or PDX (we live in E. WA., so will fly from either airport) to SNA or LGB. I don't want to turn a 2.5 hour flight into 5+, so they may have just lost us as loyal customers :(

I also love Southwest! I love being able to pick my own seat. On American, Delta and United I always get the middle seat. You have to actually pay more now to pick your own crappy seat with them. I absolutely HATE the three big carriers. I unfortunately have to fly them for work sometimes and it is always an over booked nightmare with a cattle auction at the gate to see who is going to give up their seat with lots drama. Southwest is the only airline I fly when I'm paying for it. Even if I have to pay more its always worth it too me. I don't even look at what the other carriers are charging. Its not worth the misery of flying with them.

We decided to drive this time around but we are 2 months out from going and they are the lowest they have been. We had been sitting at $150-$219 round trip flying out of Oregon and they are currently sitting at $131 round trip. So I think it really varies.

If you can fly jet blue the best rates are Tuesday Wednesday and Saturday.
If I watch I can usually get a flight for as low as $69 one way
I find jet blue to be less expensive compared to other airlines
FFlying into LGB is as easy as SNA
