I’m Not Afraid of a Few Stinkin’ Cheerleaders: A February Tale of Bronchitis, No Dining Plan, Record Heat and yes, Cheerleaders

We arrived back home from our epic anniversary and birthday trip last Tuesday, and this trip proved that no two Disney trips are EVER the same. We did have some great times on this trip but, it was just one of the those trips that was too much. Too much illness, too much crowds, too much heat… too much too much.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, first up is our cast of characters:

Not to kill suspense, but this was us at the end of our epic #4Parks1MagicalDay. Do we all look a bit goofy? We definitely felt it! 4 parks in one day was a miracle this trip!

First up you have me, Sara, or Mom or MOOOOOOOM! as my kids like to scream.

Fitting that I am holding the Mickey Pretzel, since I craved it more than anything else this trip. I am your Disney trip planner extraordinaire for my family, and my friends’ families as well to be honest. I am a secretary and rental coordinator by day and a student by night. To be honest this trip came right in the middle of an important semester and I was stressed beyond belief at the amount of school I was behind on when I got home. Writing a thesis is no joke! That being said my annual pass expires May 31st and I am itching to find a way home before it does!

Next up you have DH, or Erik a.k.a. Dad

He is a great sport on these trips, although crowds and heat really stress him out. Our goal for going in February was to avoid those two things, yet it didn’t pan out the way that we hoped. He is a manufacturing planner by day and all around great husband and dad by night. He is just as big of a Disney fan as I am at this point, and his dream is to be a Disney Friendship Boat Captain one day!

Next up is E, our 12 year old wild child!

He LOVES Disney World and was probably looking forward to this trip more than anyone. You can usually see the stress of everyday life just lift off of him while we are at WDW, but this trip was a challenge for him. In addition to extreme ADHD, he also has challenges with impulse control and severe anxiety at times. We made the decision before the trip to inquire about the DAS system and I will cover how this affected our trip.

Last but not least, is our Birthday Princess, Lorelai.

She turned 11 on this trip and loved all the attention she got from her birthday button. I don’t think she will ever go back to Disney without a button again! This trip was a testament to our patience as she seems particularly in a rush to become a moody teenager before her big brother! She does not like heat, so she was not amused with the record heat that we had while there, but she would go back in a second. She fell in LOVE with the murphy bed at the Poly and is trying to get DH to build her one.

The particulars!
We stayed at two new resorts this time:

February 6-11 at Port Orleans French Quarter

What, no dining plan? Are you crazy?

The big departure for this trip was no dining plan! I set a food budget for our trip at a little under what the dining plan would have cost us and hoped for the best… how did we do? You will have to wait and see, I will try and keep a running total as we go through the trip!

So hold on to your ears, because here we go…..

Following. My 4 year old also has severe ADHD along with sensory processing disorder (seeker) and speech delay. We did not get him a DAS pass last time, but I am strongly considering it for our next trip.

Following along! I had friends there during the cheerleading competition! I can't wait to hear about your trip! :-)

Same here with all those issues but five year old and we did get a DAS pass which really helped. We stuck to FP we made but sometimes my kid would be impulsive and want to ride this or that. Can’t wait to hear about how others experiences with DAS pass went.

Following! We leave in a week! My son is ASD. We got the DAS last year and it was great. It saved us a ton of stress.

Excited for another TR!!

I craved it more than anything else this trip

SOOOO good, I want one right now! They have filled ones I didn't even know about!

my annual pass expires May 31st and I am itching to find a way home before it does

DOOOO IIIT! Your semester will be almost over by then right?

Our goal for going in February was to avoid those two things, yet it didn’t pan out the way that we hoped

I read February was kinda wild this year. We went for Valentine's Day in 2012, and it wasn't terrible. But I've been reading this year was madness. I kinda fear that through 2022 it's gonna be extra busy.

his dream is to be a Disney Friendship Boat Captain

That is an excellent retirement plan!:sail:

this trip was a challenge for him

Poor Ethan! DH has a hard time with his anxiety in WDW too, I feel so terrible when I see it start to affect him.

Birthday Princess!! She's such a girly girl, it's awesome!

She turned 11 on this trip and loved all the attention she got from her birthday button.

I bet!

she seems particularly in a rush to become a moody teenager

MMMMM, girls develop faster, they say... Just have a stash of wine hidden around the house :drinking1

We stayed at two new resorts this time

Split stay!! Can't wait to read about it. I've alwasy wanted to do one, but I'm worried I'll hate unpacking twice.

the Polynesian Villas, Pago Pago

My dream!!!

Can't wait to see how it went!!party:

Joining in!

:welcome:

Following. My 4 year old also has severe ADHD along with sensory processing disorder (seeker) and speech delay. We did not get him a DAS pass last time, but I am strongly considering it for our next trip.

:welcome: We were on the fence with whether we would ask for a DAS on this trip or not, but E's anxiety had been having big swings and we were so glad we made the decision.

Following along! I had friends there during the cheerleading competition! I can't wait to hear about your trip! :-)

:welcome: There were so many cheerleaders! I knew it was coming but I was not prepared!
Popping over from your PTR to say hi !

Can't wait to see how everything turned out for you all!

:wave2: :welcome:

Same here with all those issues but five year old and we did get a DAS pass which really helped. We stuck to FP we made but sometimes my kid would be impulsive and want to ride this or that. Can’t wait to hear about how others experiences with DAS pass went.

I think the best feature of the DAS is the ability to come back at a certain time OR any time after! Sometimes the hour that a FastPass gives you is not what is going to work best for your family.

Following! We leave in a week! My son is ASD. We got the DAS last year and it was great. It saved us a ton of stress.

:welcome: Over the past year both us and E's doctors have been noticing more markers for ASD, it has definitely changed the way we live our lives. He is beginning his battery of testing at the beginning of next month for a more comprehensive diagnosis. I have been reading as much information as I can get my hands on.

Excited for another TR!!

Glad you are here!!

SOOOO good, I want one right now! They have filled ones I didn't even know about!

I keep meaning to find the filled ones, but I am always so hungry I go with what I can find easily! LOL

DOOOO IIIT! Your semester will be almost over by then right?

I keep looking at flights...

Poor Ethan! DH has a hard time with his anxiety in WDW too, I feel so terrible when I see it start to affect him.

I was definitely a balancing act!

Just have a stash of wine hidden around the house :drinking1

Amen!

Hi following along. My DS will be turning 12 on our December trip and we are staying in Poly Villas. He can't wait to be there on his Birthday!

Following along. We were there in January stayed at ASSp at the end of the college Cheerleading competition. We checking in on Sunday and most of them were either gone or leaving by Tuesday.

Joining along! The DAS is such a wonderful thing to utilize when you really need it! Our youngest daughter has extremely severe anxiety along with impulse control and it’s really been a lifesaver.
