hey guys! I need suggestions about sun screen. I don’t normally wear any but we are going to Dis in September and I’m in a wedding as soon as we come back(and I don’t want to be peeling. I don’t normally burn easily but I’m a northern girl and Florida is a bit different. I was kinda looking at the kind in a stick but open to any ideas of a sun screen to use. I don’t want anything greasy. (Note: I do not burn super easy, no allergies, and I don’t have sentive skin) thank you!!❤️

Oh man, im a geek about sunscreen.

I’m not sure why, but the US is way behind Europe and Japan as far as sunscreen ratings requirements go, and how specific they need to be. The FDA really needs to work on improving this. Also, from what I understand, in some tests, many of our sunscreens don’t test out as matching what they are supposed to rate on the bottle. I don’t trust sunscreens here in the US.

La Roche Posay ultralight fluid is my favorite sunscreen for the face, neck and chest. It feels like a lightweight moisturizer. That brand does have a US version that is sold here, but it is NOT the same, and has inferior ingredients. Don’t buy the US version. I buy from this website in Ireland:

The LaRoche Posay Comfort Lotion is a good one for the rest of the body. https://int.lifeandlooks.com/la-roche-posay-anthelios-comfort-lotion-250ml.html. It feels like a body lotion.

I just can’t tolerate most sunscreens on the back of my neck and armpits and other sensitive areas, because I have photosensitivities. I’ve tried every sunscreen and natural sunscreen out there and they all make me break out in hives if I have significant heat and sun exposure. I have been able to tolerate Clinique Mineral Sunscreen lotion, so far, but I know it’s not ideal as it’s a strictly mineral based sunscreen with nanoparticles, and it is a US-based one. So, I also use a UV umbrella. There are a bunch of fun ones on Amazon. I love using the umbrella, because it makes a significant difference in keeping the exhausting Florida heat off, and I’m covered if a rainstorm hits, too.

I once read a Consumer Report that Trader Joe's Nourish Spray is excellent for actually blocking the sun. I haven't used that brand personally, but I have used the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer here in Atlanta, and found it very comfortable. I did have to reapply it after 2 1/2 hours of running around.

My face is sensitive, so I have to use Clinique Smart Broad Spectrum SPF 15. I use an aerosol sport spray for the rest of me and my family. I choose the sport version because it's sweat-proof. A nice visor save your face. I have a Nike one that has been on every trip;) I also reapply every 2 hours, which is easy to do with a spray.

I burn so easily that I burn even with sunscreen. I started wearing short sleeve tops that cover my chest. In other words, I had to stop wearing tank tops and v-necks. This way I can wear less sunscreen and if I forget to reapply, I know my chest and shoulders will be spared.

SunBum, it's great. It's also locally made in cocoa beach FL which is cool! Great price and not sticky. Smells like bananas. You can buy it at Target, CVS, Publix, etc...I do not burn when I use it. The lotion is my favorite. https://www.trustthebum.com/ is the website :)

Yes, Consumer Reports has rated Trader Joe's spray sunscreen in their top three for the last two years. It's very lightweight and works great. Plus it's pretty inexpensive!

Opinions vary on what sunscreen works best for each individual. However, whatever you use should be reapplied every 1 1/2 to 2 hours because even water resistant sunscreen is not foolproof when you are sweating and it rubs/melts off. The problem
is re applying a lotion on your face if you have make up on and it is also super hot and you are sweaty, yuck. Foundation SPF is not enough. I prefer an organic physical sunblock powder to touch up throughout the day to provide a physical block from the sun, molecules are too big to be absorbed into the skin as it sits on the surface so it is usually non-irritating, cools the skin and is easy to reapply without the greasy feeling of sunscreen/lotions. Physical sunblocks are also more beneficial to those who are concerned with hyper pigmentation, acne and sensitized skin. I use Eminence Organics SPF30 that comes out of an easy to use application brush to reapply thought the day. It has the added benefit of neutralizing any redness/hyperpigmentation in my skin and has anti-aging ingredients. Super convenient which is the most important thing to reapplying. Use a mist to set powders to the skin for longer lasting/ natural application. However, if you have very dry skin with deep wrinkles, powder tends to set in the lines....no bueno! Not advisable for flash photography as it leaves a white-ish cast to skin. There is a not pigmented sunblock for kids/men.

You WILL FRY!
The Florida sun is much more powerful than up north. You're closer to the equator.
You need to apply sunscreen religiously.
Especially on the tops of your ears, back of your neck, and other not so obvious spots. Please be careful!

Which one is your favorite? Got a photo maybe?
Neutrogena, the one in a stick, is in a yellow and white container that looks like a men's deodorant stick. Not round, squarish. Similar to Mennans or Right Guard. I took a photo, but the site won't let me upload it.
Sorry

Our daughter is a lifeguard and all of her coworkers raves about ThinkSport. We bought her a bottle and after four 8 hour days in bright sun she didn’t even really get a tan. I stole it to use on our super fair DS and he got nothing. Next day at the pool his dad used Coppertone and he burned. I’m totally sold on the ThinkSport now.

I don't have a photo, but it is in a light blue and white bottle. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer, Dry-touch sunscreen. I use SPF 70 for my face. I don't have a stick right now, but it is the same, only in stick form. It is looks like a small deodorant stick.

I burn very easily even with sunscreen but not when I use this

I've been using this one lately:

I feel like it takes longer to rub in than my old one, but it also doesn't feel greasy like my old one did, I like the scent, and it works great!

I bought some of this last year and we had a terrible time getting it rubbed in. It did work great once you got it on, but it is hard to get rubbed in.
