Just at Epcot today and none of the koi were in the pond. Just wondering if it was being referb or if they were removing them. Hope they are not one of favorite things to look at Epcot.

Did they need to oil the koi animatronics? :)

Actually from what I hear it's been cold there so maybe they were moved temporarily to a tank until the weather gets better?

Koi can live so long as water doesn't freeze to the bottom. They go into a hibernation type state when water temps drop below 45. They shouldn't need to be removed for weather. More likely they are removed for cleaning or there was signs of ick or something else that needed treating. People throw stuff in the ponds or garbage blows in and it can cause problems.

We were there in October and noticed no Koi there as well. No idea what happened, but missed them.

They are changing agent P's adventure to duck tales, wonder if the koi pond might be involved in the change over somehow?

Ooh! My Older kids loved Kim Possible and we all liked Phineas and Ferb, Right now they love Ducktales and would be so excited if this was up and running for our fall trip.

When we were there over Christmas, they were gone and I asked a cast member...who knew nothing. I've been searching on the Internet for an answer after we returned and...nothing. Somebody has to know if the koi are permanently gone or if they will return.

I will be at Epcot on Saturday, and will report back. I too will be sad if they are gone for good. Always a favorite.

From what I remember, Great Blue Herons and Osprey eat Koi. Maybe they either got eaten, or perhaps Disney decided to remove them before they got eaten-especially in front of guests!

We had a koi pond in the backyard when I was a kid. Every couple years a blue heron on migration would stop and eat all my father's koi. We tried nets, sonic things, increased fish hiding spaces, it was infuriating. The bird always waited a few years too, so my dad would buy fingerlings and right about the time they started to look good at 6 or 8 inches long, the bloody bird would come and eat them all.

I have a pond in my backyard now, but we live in a very wooded area. I don't have to worry about blue heron, but I don't buy koi either. I buy the feeder goldfish (mostly comets) from the store and wait for them to grow because every few years when they get big enough, the local cats, raccoons, and hawks get them. I even saw a fox out there one day patiently waiting on the side of the pond. Not even our dog is a deterrent.

So yeah, koi get eaten by lots of things.

I remember a family member talk about radar guided guns. That should take care of those suckers
