We go to Disney every year. My husband complains that it is the "same old thing". We have 3 children, 15, 15, 9 when we are going to vacation in mid August. We live in northern NJ. Since we usually go to Disney every August, I want to keep it as part of the vacation. My two oldest will be starting high school, so I want a special trip, we will go for 2 weeks and drive along the east coast, stopping at different destinations. I am thinking of stopping at possibly (Virginia (anything historic there?), Charleston, Savannah, Hilton Head, Cape Canaveral, Daytona 500????). I want to spend 6 days in Disney but for the other 8 days I want to stop and explore. Any suggestions? We will go down 95 and want to make this vacation special and different. Maybe we can do some fun stuff in Orlando also? (gatorland, escape room, etc). Just looking for a special time and suggestions. This will obviously be a road trip. Thank you.

Washington D.C would be a great stop as well as the Coca Cola Factory in Atlanta. If your family is sick of only Disney you could also try Universal, Sea World, and other water parks if that's easier.

The Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, South Carolina has the Sky High Safari that was a lot of fun for all ages. The zoo is not large but had a lot of great attractions. We also love the Atlanta Aquarium and will second the Coca Cola Factory. We are driving this year from Pa. as we plan to spend Christmas and have a lot of stuff and will be stopping in Atlanta. The Coca Cola Factory is a must for our family. I would also suggest St. Augustine as there is so much to do. Have a great trip.

There are so many options! If you want more Park Days, I would say do Universal for 2-3 days (My Choice). Then you could do a few days at a beach, Daytona Beach, Cocoa Beach or Satellite Beach and spend a day at Kennedy Space Center. Or take a trip to Clearwater Beach (Wifes Favorite) and stop by the Clearwater Aquarium and ride on the Pirate Ship (My Little Guys Favorite). We are also from NJ (Central) also and have done them all! We always look for other things to do as part of our Disney trips since we always drive down.

Thanks for the info. What is the coca cola factory? Never heard of it but we love coca cola.

A museum in Atlanta with the history of coke and a ton of flavors to sample. You get to sample as much as u like and they have close to 100 flavors. I believe we paid around 20 to get in but so worth it.

Hilton Head. You can ride bikes on the beach and there’s a Disney property there too!

That vacation sounds awesome. We are going in August and the time you are going will be much more enjoyable, weather wise.

We live right outside Atlanta so we know the area well. The World of Coke is awesome! You learn all about it. How it all started etc. Lots of neat items to purchase that you cannot get anywhere else and some really weird flavors! It's right near Centennial park and GA Aquarium which is also a great attraction as it's the largest around. Also the Sky Wheel gives you a great view of a beautiful city.

Definitely stop in DC if you haven't spent a lot of time there already. Your kids are great ages for all the museums and government there.
I went to Savanah last year and was blown away by how much I enjoyed it - that could be a great stop.
