Hello Fellow Canadians l just received notice that Chase will be closing all Amazon credit card this March within Canada. So there goes the no annual fee and the no foreign exchange change. We use this card primarily for purchases in the US included would be our annual Disney trip. Any suggestions on a replacement card that offers similiar benefits. Thanks

Are all the Capital One cards free from the foreign exchange fee? I have one but I've never used it for US purchases. Maybe I should read my fine print!

They advertise in the U.S. as being free of exchange fees. I don't have one. When I used to travel internationally, I would pay cash (euros or pounds) and use the credit card for larger purchases only and paid the 3% fee.

No - they charge 2.5% same as pretty much everyone else. Your only option left in Canada are the Hometrust Visa (0%) or the Rogers Bank Cards (2.5% but to compensate the rate of return is 4% on foreign transactions)

Most US cards are 0% foreign exchange (past the daily posted rate) - the 2.5% is a Canadian thing, in the US AMEX is 0% but here they charge 2.5%

Thanks for the info. We drive down once a year so maybe I will also look into a travel rewards for hotels.

The Marriott Visa has no forex fee, however, the card itself has an annual fee. You get one free stay every year at a Marriott hotel though (in a category 1-5 hotel), so the annual fee is basically a wash.

All my credit cards - Chase, Citi, Discover - charge a foreign transaction fee. I never used my AMEX though, out if the country. I always brought my master card and visa since those are more universally accepted than Discover and AMEX. Although I remember seeing a sign with DINERS CLUB logo and was like, wow, I haven't seen that in a long time.

Also being canceled March 15, so not really worth mentioning as an option.

Never used either Citi or Discover, but I know Chase doesn't (just checked the Sapphire Preferred, others cards might) and AMEX doesn't on it's 'higher' end cards.

Thanks, I figured it was probably too good to be true.

Where did you hear this? I read online somewhere that they were no longer accepting applications as of Sept 2017 yet it still looks like they are according to their website. I have not heard anything about this card being canceled.

BMO has a USD Mastercard that we picked up last year. There is a $35.00 annual fee that is reimbursed if you charge $1000 in a year. You have to pay it in US funds, which means if you don't have an account there you'll need to get the cash and take it in to pay the bill. No foreign transaction fee.

So sad that the Amazon Visa card is dropped by Chase. Maybe Chase is stopping all operations in Canada?!?

Thanks for the tip Jacqueline! BMO is our bank and we already have a USD account with them. Not as good as the Amazon Visa since we have to pay the foreign transaction fee when converting CAD to USD to put in account but for those who get paid USD or get some USD money from other source than converting CAD to USD, it's not bad!

Yeah, unfortunately both Chase Visa cards (Amazon and Marriott) are shutting down as of March 15th. I just received my letters stating that. As von Monster indicated, the only options now (for those that don't have USD income) are the Hometrust Visa or the Rogers MC or the Fido MC. Nevertheless, using a high-earning rewards card (such as the Amex SPG card for example) and eating the 2.5% forex fee is still better than using a non-rewards Canadian USD credit card for those with no USD income.

Ugh, I'm so annoyed, saw the announcement on their site when I logged in Friday night. Grrrrr.

I've applied for the TD US Visa; it has an annual fee of $39 but no forex conversion fee so we'll see how we like this card. Dang it. No $20 automatic credit once you reach $2,000 like Amazon Visa though :sad2:
