5 days in late October. It will be me, DH and adult DD in a Grand suite. Any info on the ship/ports of call would be appreciated

Been to Cozumel three times. If you drink (and doesn't have to be much), the best thing we have ever done there is the Cozumel Bar Hop Tour. We had a blast.

You meet the bus and depending on how many are on the tour will determine how big the bus. It takes you to the West (Wild) side of the island which has no power, very natural. There are several bars along the beach (generators) you visit. Each one is different and has it's own fun, from low on beach to up on cliffs, great views. One spot had awesome coconut shrimp. Tour guide was great and even though I had been to Cozumel before, she really told so much about the island.

We still had lots of time to shop when we got back to town.

What are your other ports?

I guess the Tulum tour fits that bill. It's pretty cool. We did that one in 2013 on a whim. Booked on the Allure, had no problems getting there and back, although it was a long day due to the sun and heat. We got a "meal" included, but it was essentially DIY tuna crackers. Now I don't know that I would go a second time, but I think it's worth going once.

I am looking for perhaps a snorkeling excursion and viewing some Mayan ruins. I know, pretty tame stuff but I am no longer a spring chicken and I plan on doing the majority of my drinking on the ship (drinks package)

Yes, we didn't do it last time because we had the drinks package. Most our group when on a snorkeling excursion there in Cozumel and were quite disappointed. It was our 3rd trip there with poor water (I have a hard time believing it's ever nice) and their photos literally had the cruise ship in the background. The guys were going to to see the Whale Sharks but we were at the final week of that and sightings had been poor. They didn't want to waste a whole day away from the ship (especially with drink package) on a slim chance. I'm not big on venturing too far from the ship.

Costa Maya, haven't been.

Oh, and what an attractive crane!! I'm almost thinking why leave the ship? We are going to just chill out. Maybe we don't need to do anything. Jump off for a little overpriced trinkets for the grandkids & jump back on!

First time we got off right into town and wandered after a beach trip. I think that is why second time we looked to tour. I personally didn't want to have to go to mainland and take the long ferry and bus rides.

Depending on which pier .... the one we have done the last two times has a nice market, full of trinkets and reasonably priced things ... inside the "gate" so you don't even have to leave, south of town.

While the rest snorkeled I stayed on ship with DS and it was GREAT. We got snacks, we wandered all over and checked out different spots on ship, got a couple drinks. It was truly so relaxing to have the ship almost to ourselves.

I did a trip that stopped in Costa Maya once and went to Chaccochoben (I think)

Then last year went to Costa Maya again and did Beach Snorkel:

from my trip report (pics no longer work, dang photobucket):
We took about a ten minute bus ride to Tequila Beach. Then it was off to the snorkel area- life vest, fins, mask, snorkel - check! We got to keep the snorkel too since I guess they buy cheap ones so they don't have to clean them. We walked a bit on the beach, stepped into the water and put our fins on and just started snorkeling there. The current was failry strong but it was doable.
saw: puffer fish, starfish, conch, turtle, yellow stingray

it was an open bar so I had four rum punches but did not taste any alcohol LOL

laid out, red book, went in water, all for a few hours and then off to find taxi that was included. Got back to port and walked around then took the long walk back to ship.

Cozumel last year:
"
Thursday, January 19 - Cozumel Day!

Walked right out for my Island Roots and Chocolate Traditions tour. We drove out to Mayan Cacao Company and on way Edwin, the guide, told us about Cozumel. He was actually from Mayan descent and spoke Mayan, Spanish, and English. Boas are not native to Cozumel bit Hollywood brought some over to film Tarzan and left a few behind. They ate up all monkeys and some birds. They have programs to catch and release them back on mainland. Six cruise ships were in port that day. Chocolate place

We saw another guide give a demo on making chocolate from the beans, rolling them out, adding old spice, cinnamon, and paprika (to give a red color - used to be made with blood so the paprika coloring was symbolic) That was how Mayans made.

We got a small cup of 90% chocolate. It was ok, a bit bitter. you could add spices but I drank as it was

Then into the gift shop where there were samples of chocolates to try that you could buy.

Then back to the bus and we went to an area with an original Mayan temple and the first church on Cozumel (about 150 years old).

tequila tasting and talk

Most commercial brands only let the blue agave plant grow a couple of years to make tequila, but in Mexica (Jalisco) they let it grow 8-10 years to let plant mature. Then we had sips of all nine on display above - 4 kinds, 3 fruity kinds, amaretto kind, then a bailey's kind. I am not a drinker but these were actually delicious and very smooth.

Then I met my friend and we walked out of the secure port area (gasp) and went to Ernesto's Fajitas ( I had asked guide for a place to eat and he recommended this - wanted something a little more real than Senor Frogs or Margaritaville) It was about a five minute walk

My friend had an amazing time scuba diving in Cozumel too btw - very clear

Then it was time to head back to ship, well after a little shopping of course, I got a necklace

Thank you! How did you book tours? On your own? Thru the cruise line?

Altho the boa reference makes me want to stay on the ship. I am deathly afraid of snakes!!!!!

oh no worries about the boas - didn't see any and we didn't traipse through the jungle :)

For that trip I booked all through Royal Caribbean. I view it as insurance (since it costs more to book thru ship) but I had a fantastic time

I am having trouble looking at shore excursions thru RCCL. Most of the ones listed are actually for the Bahamas and and their private island. I know they recently moved Majesty from the Bahamas run to the Cozumel out of Tampa. Perhaps they have not fully updated the excursions yet?

what date?

When I was looking for mine I had trouble finding so I googled "January 19, 2018 Navigator of the Seas Shore Excursions" and it popped up so try that - I don't know your trip date

Wow! I was looking at the excursions listed in My Cruise Planner. Your link is way better. Thank you.

Funny though the one excursion I did put in my cart isn't on the list your link pulls up. Kinda frustrating but I will save both links. We are going down to visit DD in a couple of weeks and I want to do some planning while we are all together. Thank you again for your help!
