Lessor known things to do in Magic Kingdom

Just slowing down (after the mad rush to get headliners done the first few hours) and observing everything is fun. We’ve been local AP holders for many years and still spot things we haven’t seen before if we pay attention. For instance, there are various posters and ads on the outside of the Frontierland buildings- including the DVC stand. Many of the gift shops have theme-appropiate items displayed as if they were for sale. There are hidden mickeys everywhere. The Main Street windows are interesting, especially if you have a guide(book) to explain who the people were. The statues near the castle are cute. Tom Sawyer Island can be fun once in a while. It’s a good place to sit and have your picnic lunch, if you’re the type that packs. The music street entertainment is quite good too.

We try SOTMK fornthe first time on our trip in September, and DD (5) really enjoyed it. She liked having an adventure and saving the day.

The momento mori photos look like fun, we stopped by to get one done on our last trip but there was a line and we didn't feel like waiting.

Collecting the pressed pennies is another favorite side activity. The kids get so excited when they spot the machine

Wow that is very reasonable, we are def gonna do this! Even if its like $10 a piece now..
We started getting silhouettes of the kids done when we first visited in 1984. I now have a wall full and have started frames for the grandkids. They're inexpensive, relatively quick to do, and easy to carry in the park and pack for the trip home. Also makes it easy to remember how many times and when we've been to WDW.

There's a stand off Main Street and another at Disney Springs.

Be sure to ask the artist to autograph and date the back. They aren't often asked and it means a lot to them.

For whatever reason, we hadn't done silhouettes when our kids were little. I think I just assumed it would take too much time (silly me). We did them on our last couple trips and loved it (both the experience and the product). It's great chatting with the artist as they work. The one we have seen at DL has been cutting silhouettes for 43 years. Just remarkable.

Something the artist at DL told us is that she could work from photos. So if you want one of a child when they were younger and never did it, try bringing a photo as close to a side shot as you can find. The customer ahead of us had a photo of her dog she had done. It was really cute. And so distinctly Disney.

That would be 24x7. There’s ALWAYS something better to do than riding the tiki birds!

I thought that too for years, but after seeing it with my baby great nieces in September, I gained a new appreciation for the show. I have four of them under the age of 3 and all of them were awed by the birds.

OP, I love riding the train full circle.

We used to never do the Tiki Birds. Now for some reason our trip seems incomplete without it. :)

I love the Tiki birds! So cute and colourful! And then of course, we are ready for a Dole Whip float!

We really enjoyed the Muppets Show at Liberty Square.

All the Main Street performers - Dapper Dans, Main Street Trolley Show, Casey's Corner pianist, Citizens of Main Street, Main Street Philharmonic

Flag retreat at Main Street Square is a must. I dare you not to cry when you become overwhelmed with emotion while watching all the veterans take part in the ceremony.

Do not leave MK early or rush out of the park and stay a bit after the fireworks are done. Stay for a little bit and enjoy The Kiss Goodnight.

Just a heads' up about the spirit portraits - they won't do it on kids under 3. You have to stay still for a while for the effect to work. One of my almost 4 year old twins struggled to stay still long enough. Thankfully the CM was great and happily redid hers as soon as she noticed the final product wasn't right.
The silounettes are about $10/person and frames are $10. The best part is the way they do it, you get two sets. So for the extra $10 frame you get two souvenirs. One downside is they only do up to 4 in one picture frame. Those of us with large families may need to do two different sets (we haven't gone as a whole family since we got our fifth son, so we haven't had to decide how to handle that yet).

Sounds cool!

Love the shadow picture of our family
Done very fast - even little ones can sit through it
Our picture still hangs in our hallway after 15 years.
Worth every penny ;)

Here is another idea for the silhouettes if you are a paper scrapbooker. Use one facing forward on your title page to begin the trip and the mirror image looking back over the trip as the end page of your scrapbook.

I love the Shootin' Arcade in Frontierland. It's so detailed and retro; I love the fact that it's not a video game on screens. And it's a great entertainment value; for a buck, you can play for quite a long time. And I make most of my shots, so that helps. A couple tips: go for targets in front of you, not on sharp angles. And if you miss twice in a row, try another target.
