I'm trying to find the announcement on the Lava pool closure and can't seem to. Anyone know how long it will be closed?

NVM... FOUND IT! :)

t
I'm having trouble finding the info..... would you mind letting me know for how long???? Thanks!!!!

In regards to the Feb lava pool refurb , one site (maybe Allears?) said it was closed the whole month of February and I am really hoping that is wrong?? We check in on the 20th. Will the hot tub be closed when the pool is closed or does that stay open?

I really try not to be negative about life, Disney, and especially my beloved Poly - but that holiday soundtrack was really AWFUL. I’ve been back for over a week and still can’t get the ear screeching sounds out of my brain.

Yes, every morning on my way to Captain Cooks to grab a coffee is was the same 12 Days of Christmas tune - and it was January 1st-5th. I wanted to hang myself by day three's breakfast! Brutal soundtrack this year.

We got back a couple of days ago from our Poly stay Jan 2-9 for the Marathon weekend races. We had a lovely time and enjoyed the resort. It was a pretty chilly week, so I think that hampered our ability to enjoy the resort as much as we would have during warmer times. I can see how just walking around the grounds and down to the beach would be pretty amazing, but frankly, most of the time it was just too cold to really enjoy that.

We'd only put in one request which was for a king size bed which we received. We were in room 1802 in Rarotonga and we loved the location. We had a standard view on the first floor with a patio that looked out the back of the longhouse onto a walking path. It was a perfectly pretty view, although again we never sat outside because of the temps.

The location was great. We could walk a few steps and out of the longhouse and then across a small path and straight into the GCH. It was a quick walk to the bus stop as well. I thought it was a fantastic location.

The room was spacious and the bed quite comfortable. The room was looking a bit worn perhaps, but it was quite clean and in good repair. The bathroom was also nice, although I didn't love the shower head, but that's a minor quibble. Mousekeeping was good and left the room well serviced.

We had reasonable service from most CMs with whom we interacted, but not much that I'd consider outstanding with the exception of a lovely young women working the coffee counter at Kona Island. We stopped by one morning for a cappuccino and the machine was down. She did tell us we could get a regular coffee though and she was very apologetic. We said no problem and ordered two coffees and a pastry. As she was fixing our coffees, another worker came up to ring us up and asked what we were getting and the first young lady, said, "oh no, they are all set." So, no charge for our coffee or pastry. It was a nice little dose of pixie dust. We bought coffee from her a couple of other times and she was routinely lovely.

The monorail worked pretty well for us although it was down on the morning we were headed to MK. It was an insanely busy day and by the time we made a couple of false starts trying to choose the best way to get to MK, it took us an hour to get there. Yuck. But, that was more a function of just crazy large crowds trying to get into MK with the monorails down.

Overall, we had a great stay, but wish we could have experienced the resort during better weather. Thanks to the contributors on this thread for all the great information about the resort.

Sounds like you had a nice trip ZellyB! The monorail going down is such a pain when your staying at a monorail resort...I have never stayed at the Poly except in Sept, we do that bc its our anniversary and the pool is important to us, we take daily breaks around 1/2pm from the parks to swim and relax and go back to the parks around 5/6 for dinner and more rides.. That's why we prefer a monorail resort...That shower head drives my husband crazy its so low, Im short so for me its no biggie but for him he has to squat under it, lol.. Our joke is that most Hawaiians must be short.. The last rehav was what 2013 right? Im sure its needed as popular as the resort is but my understanding is it will be a yr or two before that happens..

Thanks for your review. Sorry the weather wasn't better, but glad you enjoyed the Poly overall :goodvibes.

We are finally staying at the Polynesian! We have never stayed at a Deluxe Resort! I can't wait! We are going in April and staying at Pop Century and my family thinks that will be our only trip! Little do they know that I have been saving to do a second trip in August! I was able to get an amazing deal and we are upgrading our tickets to AP's.
