Standard Pop Room vs Little Mermaid

Hello,

I do promise this will be the last on my indecisive quest to settle our upcoming resort plans (literally next month). We are booked in Pop, standard room for the first half of our split stay. I am showing we could grab a LM room at AoA for a bit more per night. Considering I am most likely going to be in the sticks in my Pop room, is the walk from LM all that different? We've got a soon to be 6 year old princess who would be happy at either.

Standard room at Pop does not automatically mean you'll be "in the sticks." There are standard rooms in ALL of the buildings. I've stayed there 3 times, once in the 80's, once the 90's and once the 60's and not had more than a 5-7 minute walk to the main building in any of them. in fact, my favorite room that I've stayed in there was a standard lakeview 60's room. We were on the back (lake) side of building 5 and had views of the EPCOT and HS fireworks from our door and it took us less than 5 minutes to get to the food court from our room.

Really? I have not stayed at Pop, sO I assumed it was like the Mods that have the Standard rooms further from the main area/transportation.

Nope! There really are standard rooms, and a lot of them, in every building. This map highlights preferred/pool view/preferred pool view rooms. Anything not highlighted is standard

I'm not that familiar with Pop, but I did stay in a LM room a few years back. The walk to the LM section is fun because you get to walk by a lot of theming, but even as an adult we didn't love how far out it was after a long day at the park. With a little one, I would be looking for something closer to the amenities.

That being said, the LM room was pretty great (if not a bit loud since we were right by the pool) and my poor husband had to listen me point out everything and ask if we remodel my bathroom at to match the one at the one at the resort.

I have stayed at Pop several times, in a standard room, and never been too far from the main lobby and bus stop. My first trip was my favorite. I was in the 50s building facing the 60s building. It was 2 minutes from the main building! And so quiet. The LM rooms at AoA are very far away. You can see it on a map, and it looks far. So this summer when I was at Pop, I decided to wander of to AoA to check things out. I walked all over to take pictures, and I cannot believe how far away the LM rooms are from the main building. After a long day at the parks, I would not want to have to walk that far. They're cute rooms, don't get me wrong, but so far away. I think your daughter would be just as happy at Pop, the huge characters are adorable! I stayed in the 90s section recently, directly across from Roger Rabbit. It was a lovely thing to see every day lol!

POP Standard rooms are not all in the sticks, the resort isn't that large .......... Little Mermaid rooms can be a long walk from main hub and bus. I have stayed at POP over 30 times, all in standard and travel with disabled DS. I love the Standard Lake View rooms, minutes to the bus and a view you won't even get at some deluxe, and it's quiet.

This will show you the room categories. Anything not marked is Standard. When are you going?

Just got back from Pop, stayed in 50’s, Buidling 2, facing the parking lot. I kind of felt like the best of both worlds. We could walk to the Pop Food Court or the AOA food court.

The week after the Princess Marathon, which has caused such a problem for inventory

Okay so there will still be a number of Standard rooms not renovated. I would add to your reservation a renovated room and leave it at that. Hopefully you will get one. There is no walk here that is rough ... except for the part of hauling luggage from car ... but that is just twice. ;)

Now if you decide on AoA I would make my only request Close to Transportation and hopefully you will get one of the closest rooms. Either hotel is great and you can walk to the both from the other. We love to eat at AoA and wander the grounds to take pictures.

But with the POP rooms converting to Queen beds :goodvibes

Since Pop is my least favourite resort at WDW so far, I would book a LM room in a heartbeat! We stayed in a LM room when my oldest was almost 6yo and I remember how much she ADORED staying there. She especially liked the tremor chest on the shower tiles.

Never stayed at Pop but loved AoA. We stayed in a LM room (Ursula building so one of the closest). We didn’t mind the walk. It’s very scenic. We were even there for Princess half marathon and the walk still didn’t bother us. But, we were adults. So, if you think the walk will bother your daughter, stick with Pop. AoA is a beautiful resort though.

My husband loves to walk around. He’ll go for a stroll while we are changing or lounging, says it’s an old Boy Scouts habit. He loved when we stayed there last since and we had a Nemo room in August.

Really? I’ve heard nothing but love until recently. May I ask why?

No one in my family liked Pop. I really didn't like the decor, the food at the food court was meh (we ate one meal there and then we cross the bridge to AoA after) and the beds were awful. But that was before the refurbishment. My kids wanted to go back to AoA or CSR. Luckily we stayed at Pop only 4 nights.

I find that even the closest LM rooms to the foodcourt/lobby are further out than the furthest Pop standard rooms to the foodcourt/lobby.

Agree 100%

I’m active, work on my feet 40+ hours a week and walk about 6 kilometres five nights a week. The walk to/from the busses and main building at AOA from the mermaid rooms made me feel like I was walking back home to Ontario. It wasn’t exactly tiring for me, just never ending. Stayed there once and haven’t moved from Pop since. In fact the entire time we were there we kept looking wistfully across the lake to our beloved Pop. :-)

:rotfl:I can totally relate.

We stayed at Pop a few times and had made the walk from the LM area a few times just to see how bad the walk was to the foodcourt/lobby. We knew it was far, but decided to go for it anyways on our next trip. The biggest problem was that we like to go to the foodcourt multiple times a day. One morning I picked up food to bring back to the room.
When I got there, I realized I had forgotten the cutlery.
An almost 20 minute round trip to get a fork just about did me in. :faint: While I love, AofA, we were done with the LM rooms.

I would stick to Pop, you can always walk over to AoA for your little one to see the theming. I request the 80s or 90s section when I stay, it's just a quick walk through or around the parking lot to the main building. I wouldn't pay the prices they charge at AoA unless I were getting a suite and just had to have one. Under it all, it is still a value resort with outside hallways in the non-suite buildings. I was in a renovated room in Sept. and it wasn't bad at all.
