August Trip ?s

We are tentatively planning a trip August 25 - August 29 (Sat-Wed). Most of what I've seen show the crowds being relatively low during that time. I have heard that it can get busy though once the summer AP block out is over. What have your experiences been with this time period?

Also, I'm seeing that LMT club has some good discounted tickets. I am assuming the $50 fee is worth the savings?

One last question (for now), when I go to purchase tickets on Disneyland's website it isn't showing taxes added to the $1385 total for 4, 5 day park hoppers (3 adults 1 child). Is that added when processed? I was comparing to Costco website and my employer discount which added taxes at the end, negating any savings.

ETA: Do you think the Pixar fireworks/Paint the Night will still be around at this time?

Thanks!

I went during this exact time in 2016 -- I think the SoCal APs had just been unblocked the week before my visit. The mornings were good, but as soon as afternoon approached it was fairly busy -- that's not too uncommon for normal DLR days though. It was also very hot, I think it peaked in the 90s. One thing that bummed me out was the Haunted Mansion was closed for the overlay.

We were there during that time in 2015. We enjoyed it so much that we're probably doing those dates again this year. I agree with Starlit, the mornings are good, the afternoons pick up a little.

As a pp said, be aware that HM will most likely be closed at that time for the HMH overlay. If that ride matters to you, you might want to visit earlier in August.

We went similar timing this past August (but Tues-Fri). Crowds were great. We used MaxPass for headliners and otherwise stood in line and don't think we ever waited more than 10 minute's. I will say though that it was very hot so not sure if that kept some people away. We had a great trip.

P.S. Last summer Haunted Mansion closed on the Monday. So if similar timing, OP may be able to catch it on the Sat and Sun.

We went this past August during this exact same time period.
Crowds were great, however the hours during the week are shorter. DL 9-9 DCA 10-8, so try to take advantage of the longer hours on the Saturday/Sunday by being there right at opening as you will get a TON done before noon those days. Then even if you go for a break in the afternoon, you have until midnight to return and have more fun.

Another thing to note was that this year the CHOC walk was on the Sunday of that time period and because of the increased crowds predicted we decided to make that our day off.

We went this very same time our last trip. Crowds were very manageable but did pick up in the afternoons.

It was very hot during our trip, mid to high 90s.

HM is closed for the holiday overlay.

Google for a free membership code to lmtclub - they always have one floating around. Have used them for tickets several times now and they have the best prices.

Good point. CHOC Walk already announced that their date is Sunday, August 26th this year. Crowds will not be low on CHOC Walk Sunday. Last year, many walkers were caught off guard by the date moving from October to August, so crowds were a little lower than normal. This year, CHOC gave walkers plenty of advance notice by officially announcing the date in January.

Pixar Pier will also be opening over the summer and the passholders will be coming back the end of August to see it.

Our timing isn't super flexible. Most of the summer is taken up by summer classes. What would be worse, this time in August or mid May with grad nights?

Just booked a week in Aug at DL this morning. I don't mind if it's busy as we are used to crowds (went to WDW last year in March and over Xmas). I sure hope Paint the Night is still there. That's one of the reasons we are going. Best night parade ever.

I would say stick with August but maybe make the CHOC walk day a pool day? Or participate in the walk...it is truly humbling experience
