Newport vs Sequoia

I'm in the very beginning of planning a possible trip to DLP in June 2018. It would likely be a 4-night stay and would be my first visit to Disney Paris, though I am a local to Disneyland and have now also visited and fallen in love with WDW.

Looking at rates and reviews, it seems Newport or Sequoia would be my options for a resort. Prices are comparable for both. Any thoughts about which is better? I was initially leaning towards Sequoia because I have stayed at Grand Californian, and also spent plenty of relaxation time in the lobby, and will be staying at Wilderness Lodge next year, so it could be interesting to compare them all. But I know Sequoia doesn't have the grand lobby, so don't know if that'd be a good comparison!

I have stayed at Sequoia Lodge and I go to Disneyland California every year. This past June I took an afternoon time out in Grand California and from what I saw, lobby and bar area, it was very similar to Sequoia Lodge.

Personally I would choose Sequoia Lodge
1. It has a shorter walk to Disney Village and the parks
2. Newport is at the end of lake Disney, past Sequoia Lodge
3. Newport is the largest hotel, depending on your room location, there could be a 15 minute walk from your room to the lobby / restaurants/ hotel amenities

We have stayed at the Sequoia twice and the room theme is very similar to the Grand Californian. The lobby isn't much to look at, there is a bar with a fireplace but that's about it. I would recommend booking a room in the main building, it's more convenient, especially for breakfast. The rooms on the outside can take a while to walk to if you are really far from the main building.

I am a big fan of Sequoia, I'm returning there in a few weeks for the 3rd time. I stayed in newport Bay for the first time in March and personally didn't like it as much. As Tink says above, we were unlucky to get a room at Newport Bay that was as far as possible from reception which meant 20 minutes walking INSIDE the hotel just to get to and from reception. Really put me off. I also just love the cosy theme of Sequoia Lodge!
You might want to consider a Golden Forest room at Sequoia Lodge, which includes lounge access at certain times, fastpasses and complimentary snacks and drinks. Often the price for Golden Forest is roughly similar to a standard room at Newport Bay, which to me means there's no comparison!

No comparsion. Stay at Newport.

At SL now and the rooms are more like a 2 star. It all looks so worn and dowdy.

I am a regular Newport guest. I am only staying at SL as I got a cheap last minute deal.

I've stayed in Sequoia last year (full disclosure: it was for free, as I've won a contest) and it was a letdown for me. The rooms were a little outdated and didn't feel like a step up from hotels like Cheyenne where I stayed earlier. The breakfast was great but that isn't included anymore. The service in the hotel was abysmal, especially at check-in. I even thought the hotel wasn't that nice looking; close by it kinda looked like a brown colored flat. Don't have too high expectations if you're used to the Deluxe DLA and WDW hotels.

This year I will be staying in Newport, partly for those reasons. Other reasons are the closer proximity to the parks and Village and more luxurious feel of the hotel.
