'OHANA means CHUNKY! An Aug 2017 Family TR THE END 4/26 - The Last Day and Trip Epilogue!

Well what a delicious afternoon. You guys hit my faves - slushes in France, the fries/chips in UK, margaritas & nachos in Mexico! Good job!! They are very strict on carding at La Cava. I'm sure a lot of underage people try to get away with it and they can't afford to be shut down. Gosh that place makes $$! Speaking of, wish the new outdoor bar would open to cut down on crowds.

I've never been to Nine Dragons but lately have been hearing good things. I may have to try it. Love that beer bottle!! I'd want to smuggle it out of the restaurant!

Oh surprises I can't wait.
Looks like it was a great day had by all.

It was a fun Epcot day! We did a few things, not a ton, but enough for the girls at that time. I would have liked to get them on a few more rides, but we'll save that for another time.

Beautiful picture, she is so adorable! And I REALLY wish I had one of those pillow on my bed!

Yes I do too! hmm, how to swipe pillow at poly...LOL
But thank you, she really is an adorable girl once you get past her side eye pictures.

Happy Birthday to Bryan! They are beautiful children :-)

Thank you! I'm happy they held hands! I took these pictures last weekend and wrangling with a bunch of kids to even look at the camera is so hard!

Aw, she makes the perfect Snow White :P

she really does. She's so pale!

Those look amazing, and I am definitely trying one of those Avocado Margaritas on our trip!

oooh you must. quite delicious and has a following. Although my friend Kelly didn't like them much, thought they were too sweet.

Nice photos!

Thanks!

Get anyone to try the Beverly?
4

Hmm, I don't remember. I think it was mainly to get Eva a jolt of sugar then walk right back out. Like a recharge, LOL. I think the one she liked was the melon frosty one.

Good drink choices!

Slushies...with vodka or grand marnier, you can't go wrong.

Marc is smart.

That he is. It always a good choice to sit and eat some fried foods.

Whoops! I wouldn't have thought of that either.
Of course for someone of advancing age, such as myself, it's a moot point.

Haha, yeah we got carded a lot except at the signature restaurants. I actually like to get carded. I practically beg people to look at my ID. :rotfl:

Don't think I've seen that magic shot before. I like it

I've seen it in MK but not in Epcot which is really weird as to why it's even there at all.

Tragic how they changed her costume.

Agree! I love the old costumes!!

I believe I know. But shan't say!

:rolleyes1

Oh my goodness, they're so sweet! They look like little magazine models here.

Thanks! They were cooperating for that shot.

That's the cutest thing I've probably ever seen.

I love that picture too, it took about 15 tries to get the both of them to look at my camera.

Haha apparently the fish and chips is contagious! It looks crispy and delish.

It was!! It seems like a must do for us now. We've had it on about 3 separate occasions this year. Just so yummy.

Yum! You were hitting all the great treats today!

We just had a craving for them! And now I want those nachos again...only 3.5 more weeks!!
Oh my gosh! :rotfl2: That's wild, but it makes for a great story. You seem to be learning from @Raeven about getting into Disney trouble!

haha, absolutely.

Fabulous! The men look like they're very happy to be in Anna's presence.

This picture cracks me up.

What cool bottles!! Was the beer itself any good?

I'm trying to guess what your surprise in Japan is, and I think I've got it figured out...looking forward to finding out in the next update...

The beer was not bad, it was kinda like a regular bud maybe a bit better? It wasn't bitter or overpowering which is how I like my beers.

:rolleyes1

Happy belated birthday to Bryan! Beautiful kids!

That's a funny story about the drinks and IDs. I used to get carded well into my 30's. I used to hate it, but now I really miss it!

I've never eaten at Nine Dragons. I'm sorry your meals were so salty. That's disappointing.

Let me guess...pick a pearl is up next! You're such a fun aunt!

Thank you!!
Yeah, Mexico was quite strict with their carding. When I get slushies from France I never get carded, LOL. I know what you mean. I WANT people to card me now!!
I would skip Nine Dragons but the service was really good. Our server wrapped the bottles for me to take home. It was really nice of him!
:rolleyes1 we shall see, but yes I am definitely a fun aunt! I probably have too much fun. :cheer2:

Aw, such cute pictures of the kids!

Mmmm...Fish & Chips - that is a must do for us on each trip. Even on our one Disney day on the cruise, my plan is to stop there for dinner!

That is pretty funny about the IDs/drinks in Mexico. Um, avocado margarita, what is that?? Tell me more!!

Thank you! They really are quite cute.
The fish n chips are delicious! I really enjoy them. With F and W though, it is hard to eat food from the booths as well as all the quick service places, let alone table service. Please let me know how your day at Disney goes! What is your plan for the day? Are you gonna park hop all over?
The Avocado margarita is like a margarita with some melon liquor and avocado in it. It's creamy, refreshing and sweet.

I love all the pictures of the kids they are adorable :goodvibes
Glad you didn’t get kicked out they do take their drinking rules very seriously . We got chased down leaving IG with drinks in hand :confused3
Didn’t know we couldn’t take our drinks out of the park
Looking forward to the surprise in Japan.

Thank you!
Yeah I was glad I didn't cause too much trouble, but my sister almost ruined it for everyone!!
I've seen many people take drinks inside the park - via water bottles. Nothing they can really do about that though. There was a bunch of older ladies on the water taxi to Epcot and they were all plastered and taking sips from their "water bottles" which I'm pretty sure had vodka or wine in it. LOL.

Way to dodge the non-underage drinking bullet! It's probably a really good thing that they card so carefully, but I would have been SUPER annoyed!!! My husband and I are such baby faces that we are always carded, too.

Haha I'm so glad to get carded nowadays, it used to happen all the time and now it happens less and less, sigh. But glad to see Mexico taking things so seriously. I have never gotten carded anywhere else in World Showcase. During food and wine, I was buying drinks left and right and no carding!

Yummmmmmmmm!! I was so pleasantly surprised on our last trip to find the little hidden away stand that sells these over by Test Track where you can get a Frozen Coke with Jack Daniel's or Captain Morgan. Extra Yummmmmm!

Yes I saw that!! My sister opted for one without the alcohol though, but I'm sure that one is even better :)

I miss getting carded. Too bad dinner wasn't that great but the nachos and fish/chips look delicious. We are definitely getting nachos while we are there. That's one of my favorites. We might try to get a spot in side La Cava and order the nachos there. I would like to try the fish and chips this trip too. I'm the only one that eats fish but I think everyone would like the fried fish.

The dinner was ok, the service was great thought, they made us feel very welcome, and they were kind enough to wrap the cute buddha beer bottles for me to take home. Loved that.
I love the nachos at Disney World. There is something in that cheese sauce that makes it so yummy, but I don't feel gross like after I eat nachos at a movie theater. I am certain there is the same thing in their cheese sauce as they have in their popcorn. #crackpopcorn
I think you should definitely try the fish n chips. I know many people that dont' like seafood regularly but once you fry it, they are all over it. :)

Another great update...and we LOVE the fish and chips at the Yorkshire Fish place. I think I stop there just about every trip! I've never done the nachos though...something to keep in mind for the future.

Thank you! The nachos and the fish n chips are some of my old stand-by go-to QS meals at Epcot. It's hard though when they have food and wine and flower and garden because you want to eat at the booths too. So much food, so little time...

Funny about your family getting carded. Definitely something to keep in mind but since our upcoming trip we are staying sorta off-site, most of our party won't have Magicbands so should have their wallets anyway!

Yeah I thin wallets are required then :)
I thought it was funny that they did not bring their IDs. I should have probably told them to but I just assumed that this is something people have at all times, even if they leave the rest of their stuff in the safe. At least that is the case for me. They might have taken me to literally when I said that the Magic band is their life at Disney!

I kept reading- fish and chips... and Nachos would probably be enough to fill me up for dinner... and then add a dinner on top of it?! I bet you were full! But OH HOW I LOVE NINE DRAGONS. That is the bar to which we measure all other Chinese food... although, the fact that we're eating it at Disney may have some impact on the taste.

Yay I finally caught up!

omg, the ID story is ridiculous! Funny, ridiculous lol. First rule of Epcot: never leave home without your ID! ;)

Immediately, the bartender goes "ID please."
CT1 (clueless):"Oh I don't have ID."
Me (exasperated): "Ying! You're ruining everything!"
CT1 (innocently): "What, I thought everything was on our magic bands?"
Me (frustrated, to bartender): "Sorry, she left her ID in the room, but I'm buying the drink for myself." (crosses fingers)
Bartender: "Fine, but don't let me see you giving her the drink"

He lets me buy the drink. Thankfully I was not kicked out of Disney for buying my non-under aged sister and BIL a drink.

WHEW. Crisis averted, and Kevin got his drink in the end. :drinking1

At least now we had a funny story to tell at dinner. :rotfl:
I don't think I have ever been carded in Disney World... Interesting.. And I don't always have my id with me. I will def from now on!

After dinner I told everyone to head over to Japan as I had a surprise for the girls....

Stay tuned for the surprise!!
Can't wait to hear what the surprise is! Pick a pearl, perhaps?

What a great picture of the 3 of them!

I think the adults were excited to have a few real drinks too, except for CT2 who doesn't really drink much, but the guys were all hammering for something cold and alcoholic, which was evident when I got this text from CT1. They had made it to France just as we got to WS.

I love the way you all roll!

That was a really great snack and hit the spot although we had to eat outside in the heat. You know what sounded pretty good right about now? Nachos. I had put it into everyone's head that Mexico had really good nachos so now everyone wanted Nachos. We we headed back around and walked to Mexico.
Cause what goes better with fish and chips than nachos :-) Always love when food begets more food. Totally my mantra

So, apparently, Kevin left his ID in the room. He figured he didn't need anything while at WDW since they had the magic bands, so him and CT1 didn't take their wallets at all. Which is a good idea, but bring your ID people!! So Kevin got carded and of course he didn't have any ID so he had to leave empty handed, LOL.
I've learned to bring my id (though sadly my carded days are behind me) but I'm with CT1 and Kevin on this one. Disney totally says you don't need to carry anything and your magic band is your access to everything. I can see why they took that literally. With the technology and finger prints they have id should be a given too.

My sister got some libations of her own. She had been talking about getting a frozen coke all day and she finally got one at Club Cool.
Funny I thought Pascal has her libation, not the coke :-)

OK for some reason I don't know why I don't have the Elsa pictures but I know that she did meet Elsa.
It totally looks like she is in trouble with Anna for something :-)

This picture is absolutely adorable!!

Thank you! It took a few tries to get them to somewhat look at my camera!

It's so easy to forget your ID, especially since Magicbands can be used for almost everything! My cousin turned 21 right before our December trip and of course she could never remember to bring her ID to the parks. Needless to say, no drinks for her.

Oh that's too bad. Epcot would the first place I'd head to when I turn 21! (I think I did, in fact, go to Epcot the year I turned 21)

Also, the nachos and fish & chips look delicious. :lovestruc They're both must-dos for us each time we go.

Absolutely!! They are delicious there!

Did you have her try the Beverly?

Haha, I wanted to keep cool aunt status that day, so no. Think she had the melon drink.

I get this every trip! It's my favorite food in Epcot!

Sooo yummy!

Dying at this :rotfl2: Poor Kevin just wanted a drink!

I've always wanted to try Nine Dragons. There's just too many other restaurants to try first.

He totally just wanted a drink. The poor guy had to ask his old sister-in-law for help, LOL.

I know, I totally get that I want to try different places in Epcot more so than just Chinese food, but it's not bad, and it's a nice place to sit and get out of the heat when you can't get an ADR anywhere else.

those children are so Darn cute!!!

Thank you! They sure are, when they are not being troublemakers.

I bet that coke didn't stay frozen long in that heat lol but it sure looks refreshing!

Haha I'm sure my sister polished it off quickly.

Steve looks like he had a stomach ache from the nachos in that pic lol

Haha perhaps. Or he was just trying to keep a straight face in the picture.

Love the pictures of the children they are adorable. Love the update.

Thank you so much!

Amazing photos of the kids in the beginning of your update :goodvibes

Thank you!!

Yes! Nachos always sound good. I had these babies as my lunch one day.

I saw that!! Soo yum. It's like the perfect lunch! Well, it was technically part of our dinner appetizer.

Wow, what a deal!

It's a great deal!

Ooooh, I wonder if my guess will be right. I'll wait patiently and see ;)

Hehehe...

Looks like a wonderful afternoon snacking around the world, the nachos look really good!
I love the pictures of the kids so cute!
We tried Nine Dragons once and really enjoyed our dinner, it is easy to get an ADR there so that is nice!

It was a great afternoon of libations and food. It's what we love to do at Epcot. I just wish it wasn't so hot!
thank you!

Really enjoying your trip report. The little ones are adorable. The need for ID for people in their 30s made me laugh. They are not alone. We been at some restaurants and arenas/ballparks in the last few years where we are asked for ID even though we've both have been legal since President Carter was in the White House .

Thank you!
Yeah it has gotten pretty strict of late with regards to carding...except for the food and wine kiosks! I ordered a bunch of drinks a few weeks ago and they did not card once!
Or maybe I'm just showing my age

Some of our local businesses have signs saying they card everyone who looks less than 30 years over the legal limit. Which means many people get carded. Even when old enough to be the cashier's grandparent

LOL that is funny. Although makes me feel worse when I don't get carded.

Those kiddos are adorable!

Thank you! :-)

Loving your trip report. We really like the fish and chips too. It was our first and only stop after we checked into the Boardwalk on our visit last year. It's also so relaxing to just wander around Epcot and eat, drink and have a relaxing day.

I have to comment about being carded. We ate at a restaurant in the Minneapolis airport on a stopover a few years ago and my DH ordered a beer with his meal. The server insisted on seeing his ID. He was about 65 at the time! We thought she was joking and laughed, but she was serious. What?!? We noticed that she didn't ask for IDs of young people at a table close by. Very strange.

Looking forward to seeing the surprise in Japan. Have a wonderful cruise!

I think I might have missed an update, I'm SO behind everywhere on the DIS, but I didn't realize that until I started your latest update and before I get distracted again I want to comment!

These nachos are delicious, I highly recommend them. We all enjoyed them it it proved a perfect pre-dinner appetizer. Yum.
La Cantina is one of our go-to QS in WS and I love their nachos. Stinks you couldn't sit inside, we always have and I never even thought about not being able to close to dinner! Huh, the things you learn on the DIS :)

:rotfl2: This is hysterical!

To drink I shared a beer with Steve, called Lucky Buddha
Steve had this last year at Yak & Yeti and thought it was pretty good too. He normally goes for darker beers but on that particular day it hit the spot. I like the bottle!

Hot and Sour soup.
Mmm, I love Hot and Sour soup and that looks really good! We've never eaten at Nine Dragons, it's somewhere we need to try. Sorry all your dishes weren't great but hey, you got to sit at an "adult" table

:rotfl: This made me laugh.

It was like OMG why did you have to be here and almost ruin your husband's drink quest? LOL

The bottles are really cute!

They are so cute and I got to keep them too!

At least the ice cream wasn't salty

Thank goodness. :crazy2:

Well what a delicious afternoon. You guys hit my faves - slushes in France, the fries/chips in UK, margaritas & nachos in Mexico! Good job!! They are very strict on carding at La Cava. I'm sure a lot of underage people try to get away with it and they can't afford to be shut down. Gosh that place makes $$! Speaking of, wish the new outdoor bar would open to cut down on crowds.

Those are definitely my faves too. Yeah I realized they are pretty strict with the carding there more so than at other places at WDW.
Oh there is an outdoor bar opening? That would be cool. Although in that heat, I'd much rather be indoors.

I've never been to Nine Dragons but lately have been hearing good things. I may have to try it. Love that beer bottle!! I'd want to smuggle it out of the restaurant!

They let me keep the bottle! No smuggling required, LOL. They even wrapped it for me in paper.
I thought the service was great, everyone was friendly, much more so than the chinese restaurants I'm used to where it's usualyl more "brisk" service lol. Food could be better but it was nice to get out of the heat and chill with food and drink.

Yup we are a family that keeps on eating! We did share a lot of the foods though, like we got fish in chips to share among 3 people so everyone got like a piece of fish and a bunch of fries. And we got 2 nachos to share among 6 of us but those nachos were big! That goodness I had my family there as if it was just Steve and I we wouldn't have made it to dinner we'd be too full.
I'm glad you enjoy nine dragons! And yes, everything tastes better at Disney, just a given, LOL.

Yay I finally caught up!

omg, the ID story is ridiculous! Funny, ridiculous lol. First rule of Epcot: never leave home without your ID! ;)

Absolutely. I thought that was the rule of thumb anywhere! But I guess with the MB people are so used to not bringing anything...

I don't think I have ever been carded in Disney World... Interesting.. And I don't always have my id with me. I will def from now on!

Haha, just in case you really really want a drink from La Cava!

Can't wait to hear what the surprise is! Pick a pearl, perhaps?

:rolleyes1

What a great picture of the 3 of them!

Thanks! The only one where all three of them are sorta looking at the camera at the same time.

I love the way you all roll!

We are the Chunkies after all...

Cause what goes better with fish and chips than nachos :-) Always love when food begets more food. Totally my mantra

Haha that's how we think! Our world centers around food.

I've learned to bring my id (though sadly my carded days are behind me) but I'm with CT1 and Kevin on this one. Disney totally says you don't need to carry anything and your magic band is your access to everything. I can see why they took that literally. With the technology and finger prints they have id should be a given too.

Maybe La Cava is the only place where they don't rely on the MB for identification. At least that looked like it during our time there. I was buying drinks left and right during F and W last month and didn't get carded once. Or maybe I'm just old, LOL.

Funny I thought Pascal has her libation, not the coke :-)

:rotfl:

It totally looks like she is in trouble with Anna for something :-)

Haha totally!

Whew...finally caught up! Looks like so much fun! Getting carded always feels good....unless you don't have your ID and you're in need of a drink :drinking1

Haha which is exactly how Kevin felt when he tried to get a drink with no ID.

Loving your trip report. We really like the fish and chips too. It was our first and only stop after we checked into the Boardwalk on our visit last year. It's also so relaxing to just wander around Epcot and eat, drink and have a relaxing day.

Thank you and welcome! The fish n chips are a favorite. I love love Epcot for that very reason...wandering, eating and drinking. :thumbsup2

Hmm very strange! Maybe trying to be flattering to DH? hoping for a big tip? LOL

Looking forward to seeing the surprise in Japan. Have a wonderful cruise!

Thank you!! It's not for another 2 weeks but I really can't wait. I need to be on the boat right now!

funny. the day we get old enough to drink, we want to be carded. Yet before that day... :rolleyes1

It never works out the way we want it to, right?

So true! I've even been rejected when I've tried to supply identification. "Ma'am, we won't be needing that." :rolleyes2

Hahaha, yes I know the feeling.
And you've been rejected trying to hand out free FPs too...what is the world coming to?!?:rotfl:

I think I might have missed an update, I'm SO behind everywhere on the DIS, but I didn't realize that until I started your latest update and before I get distracted again I want to comment!

I'm sooo behind too!

La Cantina is one of our go-to QS in WS and I love their nachos. Stinks you couldn't sit inside, we always have and I never even thought about not being able to close to dinner! Huh, the things you learn on the DIS :)

We've always been able to sit inside too but I guess we've always eaten this for lunch and not closer to the dinner hours.

:rotfl2: This is hysterical!

It was so funny. I can't believe CT1 almost thwarted her own husbands plan for getting a drink.

Steve had this last year at Yak & Yeti and thought it was pretty good too. He normally goes for darker beers but on that particular day it hit the spot. I like the bottle!

It is definitely a refreshing beer! And I got to keep the bottle!

Mmm, I love Hot and Sour soup and that looks really good! We've never eaten at Nine Dragons, it's somewhere we need to try. Sorry all your dishes weren't great but hey, you got to sit at an "adult" table

Their version of hot and sour was very good. The rest of the food was very salty aside from the ice cream, but maybe we'll try something else on another trip. It's not something I would plan ahead of time but I like knowing there's always a table available when we want it even with a group of 15.

Finally caught up again!
Happy birthday to all the October bdays!! And sweet Caylee too-OMG are the kids adorable!!
My oldest turned 20 yesterday (at MNSSHP) and my middle is 15 in 10 days.

Fish and chips is my sons happy place, while grand marnier slushies are mine:rotfl: Although the tequila bar inside Mexico is a close second happy place.

And the tale of drink ID reminded me to remind my MiL and SiL to take their ID with them!

Epcot has always been my least favorite but I’m actually looking forward to it now after reading your TR! I’m especially looking forward to the frozen coke!

I also wanted to say that we ate at Nine Dragons a year ago and loved it. But we tried to order things on the menu that we a bit different than the normal mom and pop Chinese restaurant. We ordered the Shrimp Typhoon, it was REALLY good.
'Shrimp Typhoon
Golden fried shrimps with fried shallots, garlic spice and a touch of jalapeño'
From the disney web site. I am not clamoring to go again, but if we were in EPCOT and wanted to sit down, I would def go there in a pinch last minute.

The problem is there are so many good restaurants in the world showcase!
