So I have booked my Dec trip to HKDL 2 months ago.
Last week I received an email from HKDL stating to offer me a limited time offer to upgrade my standard room to sea view rooms for only HK$300.

I immediately emailed them about taking up the offer (as I am from out of HK). The reservation services replied that it will be HK$498 for me to upgrade to a sea view room - which is the normal price difference as seen on the public HKDL website for a 2 nights stay.

I replied that I would take the HK$300 time limited offer instead of the normal HK$498 rate. Their reply was that the limited offer was for per night, and so the 2 nights will be HK$600, so I am getting a cheaper rate than the offer.

WOW !!! they gave me a cheaper price than the offer !!!

Huh?? but that's the advertised price on HKDL website... so in actual, it is the normal rate.

I cannot believe that Disney is resorting to such trickery - quoting you a higher price than what is seen on their website and then quoting you the same price as on their website, and saying that they are giving you a time limited offer.... This behavior is similar to some small scamming Chinese shops tricking their customer.

Sure the amount here is very little but the thought of scammers around at your vacation is very scary.

This will be my 1st and last time to HKDL. I think I will give SDL a miss too, seeing they are all from the same scheming country.
I should just stick to DLR and WDW.

I wouldn't get that upset about it, there are so many companies all over the world doing this. In the US I have seen it at Amazon and airlines like Delta as well. It's more a way of marketing than calling it's a scheme. As a tourist you should, in every country, more aware of schemers at the airport, offering extremely expensive taxi rides etc. Or selling you cheap souvenirs for a high price.
I'm sure you will be able to find 'schemes' within the Disney company in the US as well.

And it would be a pity as HKDL and SDL are very pleasant parks to visit. Worthy of a second visit, maybe not every year, but definitely worth repeating.

Also, Hong Kong and China are not the same country.

My family is staying at the Hollywood Hotel at HKD in January. I've booked it through Expedia AU. Even though it's a prepaid in full rate, it's one of the few hotels (I've come across) that allows cancellation with a full refund before check in. So far I've cancelled and rebooked four times since the original booking three months ago as the has dropped on Expedia. So far I've saved about $290AUD this way.

If paying with Mastercard on Expedia there's also a chance to get a further 12% discount. At the moment I'm down to around $250/night (approx $1560 HKD) for a deluxe room (in what I presume is a high season time).

If you can cancel your current booking, it might be worth looking at Expedia AU for comparison prices.

Will have to see if HKDL redeem itself when I visit them coming Dec.

Well, it's a SAR, may be can be looked at as a different country. But could also be a puppet government, IDK. To be seen in the future.
