Disney Riviera Resort

No different than buying in at the poly or GF. Those resorts don't have DVC exclusive dining or lounges. They all have monorail access also shared by thousands.

Way different...I think you might be out of your comfort zone on this one, my man...

How so? Anyone can use the monorail. Each MK resort and guests transferring to the Epcot line. The monorail is used by 10s of thousands.

The monorail hotels have far fewer rooms located on it than this gondola system...
...but I agree the net Usuage may not be more because of the ttc and the Epcot spur

The resort monorail does not get the kind of traffic the gondolas will get, as the latter are accessing 2 parks.

Those on the resort monorail are MOSTLY those staying at those resorts or those with dining reservations. Or those touring the resorts (can't imagine that tracks in SO MANY people).

Then there's the express (TTC-MK) and obviously the Epcot loop that all access.

"Luxury" by hospitals industry standards...requires certain criteria to be classified as such.

Disney does not do that. It's too expensive and they don't design for it.

This is gonna be bay lake in separate fence next to Caribbean...more or less.

You have to wonder what you think that's worth? That's the question.

I can't imagine it being VGF luxurious!
Maybe it will make the smaller BLT rooms seem luxurious by comparison!

We'll just book the rooftop restaurant,
gondola over there from Epcot or HS,

AND hope that the per night points
are in line with the Poly or VGF,
instead of with AKV :)

But the monorail is shared by far fewer than the gondolas will be... ... I think that matters in this context.
Could it be possible that they'd give the DVC members their own separate boarding station? By the looks of the picture it seems they could have 2 boarding stations in the CBR area, a north and south access. Just my speculation though.

Why in god's name would you want PPN to be equal to the Poly of VGF? That makes absolutely no sense. I figure this to be closer to VWL PPN as it will have a similar close but not walkable/monorail exclusivity that BLT, VGF, and Poly have. At worst it should be equal to BCV. Anything more than that in terms of PPN (though I'm sure they'll go Lake View BLT PPN for the "fireworks view") would be a serious rip-off.

Good point... I was saying something similar to DH, thinking that the only difference might be the higher-rise aspect... higher floors having some views of DHS and Epcot, where VWL really doesn't have a comparable.

I was wondering the same...

Why on earth want 30 pt a night studios?

DVC doesn't "do" luxury...never has. Did they announce they were gonna start at d23?

Right...but that's like selling the beans you have as "magic"

...we have to sniff these things out
Yeah. We're DVC owners at BLT and SSR. The latter only because that's all they were actively selling the first time we bought -- we've only stayed there one long weekend when deciding whether or not to buy. We were going to sell SSR, but hung onto it and are using it to book smaller rD trips throughout the year. Our longer "annual" vacation is at BLT.

So we like DVC and all. But is it "luxury"... Poly Bungalow feels close. But not if I compare to deluxe hotels I've stayed at in NYC, DC, CA, and elsewhere. It's "Disney Luxury" (!!) and suits us just fine on our WDW vacations. But I don't think it's 1:1 with other hotels that call themselves luxury.

100% agree across the board.

I would have probably bought more later...but they started charging $8 more per point every six months for about 6 years straight...so I waved to the ship as it left the dock:wave:

I've seen the permitting footprint of the boardwalk turn station and the one in the Riviera. Anyone else think they missed and opportunity for two hidden mickeys on the shape of the turn buildings?

DVC isn't truly luxury, but it's more extravagant than most families are accustomed too. Heck, the abbreviated housekeeping that is part of the DVC, is a greater luxury than most parents experience in their own homes. I think of DVC as more multi amenity, or more than a place to sleep. Better food options, better options for an off park day etc.

Had to laugh at the typo...then again, maybe it was intentional? ;)

Anyhow, I put "luxury" in quotes as I was referring to the look and feel of GF, not necessarily the services of a luxury resort. It may be BLT in separate fence, or it may be designed to look and feel completely separate.

But, you are right in asking what is it worth. I think it will be too rich for my blood. BUT, it also depends on what type of rooms they offer. Remember, I was recently complaining about how as a family of six, it's feast or famine for sleeping spaces. I would be hard-pressed to buy direct, if we buy at all. The right room layout and great soundproofing could start to persuade me, though.

Didn't the D23 mention when the Riviera is supposed to be completed?!
I thought they said fall. But was it fall of 2018 or 2019?
