Flight of Passage + People of Size = Disappointing

We got back on the 11th. Unfortunately I didn't get to ride because it was down over 3 hours the day we were there. My son waited out the down time by planting himself on a rock directly next to the test seat. I gave up and headed back to the hotel. Anyway, I did try out the test seat and I was in the green. For reference, I'm 5'3'', 244#s with 18.5 inch calves and 53" around my hips. I wear size 20 clothes. I definitely felt the calf restraints. Not uncomfortable, but not much room for movement either. We go back next month. I have 3 fastpasses so I will definitely give it a try.
Thanks for posting your calf size and other measurements. My calves are bigger and you help set my expectations appropriately.

I fit easily on the ride so you will too. The ride is the best one at Disney don't miss it..there is a practice one outside the ride if you want to check, but if I fit, you will. Definitely make a fast pass for it

My BIL can't ride FOP, Space Mountain, or 7DMT because he's nearly 7 ft. tall. He's just too darn tall and he doesn't fit. It stinks, but it's a fact of life. It's nearly impossible to make rides to fit absolutely every body size. In a perfect world it would work, but it's just not possible with so many people of all different shapes and sizes.

Just got back from a great stay. Loved FOP and was glad that I fit. I am 5'6" and weight 230lbs. Most of my weight is in my middle and chest. My calves are not small by any means, but I had no problem with the calf restraints.

The back restraint was tight, but not uncomfortable.

I did try the test vehicle with no issues. I felt much better after trying the vehicle. Don't be afraid to try it, it helped me feel ok.

I watched a video prior on the best way to sit and it worked very well for me.

I'm 5'9" 230ish lbs and fit comfortably. There were people in the same batch as us who were larger than I am and fit. There was a man who was 6'5" (we'd asked about his height earlier due to a conversation with our kid) who did not fit, he couldn't get his legs folded up enough to slide his knees in.

That's what I'm wondering about as my husband is 6' 5 1/2'' with long legs. But I have had some DISers report they fit fine and they were taller than him so that test seat will be pretty important!

I don't think it's that embarrassing, it's not like anyone who is that big is really hiding their size in public. I think it's worse to wait in line and then get into a theater and then be told you can't fit.
As someone that's had this happen several times, speak for yourself. It's HUMILIATING! I've started to just not bother anymore. I'm too afraid. This goes for more than just rides, many of which don't have "test" seats. On one of the DCL ships, I could fit just fine in the main theater seats when we did our muster-station drill, but JFC the seats in the theater for the I've who's were half as big and I was humiliated when I went to sit down and couldn't. I left my family and walked up the stairs in front of everyone in tears and went back to my stateroom. I didn't get to enjoy a singe show. If they had any accommodations for pooh-sized people, I don't know. I was too traumatized to ask after that.
My husband had wanted to go back to WDW for this very addition after our last trip which was our firs to DLR and we LOVED it there. If we're going to run into size issues for the attractions we specifically decided to go back to FL for, we might just do DLR again because quite frankly, we loved it more. Lots of research to do.

I am 5'9", 250 pounds, wear a women's 20, with 19" calves (super muscular) and a 46G bra size. I carry my weight in my chest and stomach. As embarrassing as those stats are to report, I wanted to share them b/c I had absolutely no trouble fitting into FoP. If you are top-heavy like me, if you just make sure to scoot all the way forward, you can rest your boobs on the front of the "bike" and that measurement won't cause any problem getting the seat to close. I was most worried about the calf restraints but they were no issue - I went up on tiptoe as they closed and then relaxed down and I didn't even feel them. Just wanted to post if it gives anyone else comfort - I spent a decent amount of time worried about being able to fit!

I can tell you that after being a little concerned for a few weeks about riding, it was a non-issue. I was able to ride this morning July 7, and they did not require 3 "clicks", the attendant stopped after one and said, "your good to go", I actually had at least and inch or two of extra space behind my back! Truely amazing ride, that you MUST experience!

They didn't really think through where that seat should be located.. directly in everyones pictures of the mountains was a huge fail... but as a heavier person, I know I'm heavy, I know I might not be able to ride.. I'm also taller and there's more than a few disney rides I need to get in very specific or I will not fit.. It's more in your head and how much of a big deal your family makes of the situation.. I'd rather know if I'm wasting 3-6 hours in line and get a clear view of the seat to know how to sit in it than not get in because it took too much time in the room.

but with that said, If he's tall and 300ish pounds, that makes him smaller than me and I can ride it and get locked in no problem. I suspect the issue might be how he has his feet positioned and it's a very confusing seat if your taller and to be honest, there is no actual reason they need to lock your feet into place except to force you to feel the banshee breathing.. This isn't going to help now but I have to lift my heals a little more for it to lock and then I can relax into position.

They have changed the seat since preview. The back restraint used to force everyone to lean forward.. It's been slightly altered to lock in further back now and some have mentioned how they seem to be able to sit more comfortable now..

The leg restraint makes no sense, it wont' be long until they just disable it. The back restraint is to make sure you can't jump out of your seat suddenly as your on a moving floor with a ledge in front of you.. The leg restraint, I can't think of any reason other than forcing you to feel the banshee breathing to have it.
Can someone be more specific in a Pooh sized body for me? My husband and I are kind of large in the mid section. Rather short and robust, which fits into the pooh category I guess, but was looking more for a weight or measurement I guess???

One of my sons is 5' 10"
And about 260 with 42 " waist

He had no issues fitting in any of the rides
Mummy and fj were close to a tight fit but he was not uncomfortable on it

Can someone expand a bit more on ankle positions? I just had major ankle/foot surgery a week ago to repair some tendons. We still have 9 months before the trip so I should be healed but I am worried about range of motion. Do you really need to bend your ankle a good deal to get it in the seat? The bending and leaning forward is going to take some time to work up to. If I had an idea of how far I needed to go it could be a goal to work towards in physical therapy!

Thanks for any info you may have!

Depends on your height. Mine were slightly bent (probably 15 degrees) but with that said it was because of my height not required. If your ankle is in braces then however they naturally fall should be fine. Also flat can work as well as there is somewhere for your toes to go. CMs will let you have the time you need (with in reason) so if you need the time let them know ahead. I usually describe the posture as similar to sitting in a fixed height office chair. So for those shorter then 5'7" there may be a slight bend.

I'm 5'9" around 270, run a 50 in guys shorts or a 24 in women's. I carry weight in stomach and chest. When I didn't lean forward (thinking bicycle not motorcycle) it was iffy on the test bike, but leaning in it was fine. Make sure to clear your pockets so nothing catches.
If you think you'll be self conscious about the test seat, pose for pics while testing like everyone- good camo.
For comparison, I fit on 7DMT, I don't on Gringotts, didn't in the design coaster in Epcot.

I have a 55" waist and I fit fine. They said I was "right on the borderline" on the test seat, but on the ride I fit fine. Most of you have nothing to worry about.
