Feedback on frontier

Hello, I am looking for feedback from those that have travelled frontier. We usually travel united because it has a nonstop from our local airport. It is getting so pricey and we are looking for other alternate airlines. Frontier also has a nonstop flight and we are considering trying it out. Online I have read numerous complaints and some seemed petty (they didnt have blankets or meals-that person must not have travelled in a long time) but somed seemed legit. Any feedback is appreciated!

Frontier has very inexpensive base prices, but they charge for everything. And I do mean everything. Before you decide that they are the least expensive, ask yourself..how important is it for you and your family to sit together, because assigned seats will be an extra charge. Save money by not checking bag? Not on Frontier...they charge for carry on bags and are usually more expensive than checked bags.

Frontier works well for me because I am a single, so I don't care where I sit, and I have family in Florida so I don't have to bring any bags..carry on or checked, so they are a great deal for me. If I had a spouse and a couple of kids, I would be doing some serious price and extra fee comparisons.

I have never had to deal with a flight cancellation or anything serious with them, so I can't comment on their customer service, but I will say their seats on the plane are very uncomfortable for me. Its about an hour and a half flight for me to MCO but if it were much farther than that, I'm not sure I could handle those seats.

Here is why I would never fly Frontier. A couple years ago there was an onboard fire on one f their planes. The pilot returned to the airport right after takeoff so they fired him. The case is under litigation. With these super discount airlines they fly limited schedules. If your flight gets cancelled you could wait for days to get a flight.

I believe they've changed their business model since we flew with them in 2014. So I can't speak for them recently. Back then, they were great.

They flew out of our local int'l airport, small, but Air Canada was there so it's int'l, then saw the opportunities to move to the bigger cities under this new model I guess.

The one time I flew Frontier, the flight was over 3 hours late. The weather was perfect & there were no issues with backed up flights nationwide or at the airport. It was a Frontier issue & it really soured me on them. That was over 10 years ago, however.

We've flown frontier several times. They are a no frills airline. But we've never had any issues and the prices are awesome.
There are several flights to Orlando from where I live so that makes me feel better about flying them. If there's only 1 flight from your city, I'd be more cautious since I understand that if they cancel, they don't offer much customer service. But for the fares we've been able to get, I'll continue to fly frontier

A few different people I know have had their luggage lost and they were on direct flights. I can see if they had connecting flights and the luggage did not transfer. We always do carry on bags to avoid this mess. We just flew them a few weeks ago and they announced they had ordered 100 more planes so them must be doing something right. Keep in mind their ticket, gate agents and ramp workers all work for a company called SwissAir and not Frontier. So if you run into a not so nice person they don't care because they are not Frontier employee's

We flew Frontier this May CLE to MCO. It was a short direct flight and the price was right, $800 for 4 roundtrip tickets plus 3 checked bags. Nothing happened that would make me hesitate to fly the airline again...then again nothing extraordinary happened that made me say I only want to fly frontier.

CLE is my home airport. Since we are looking to take more trips to FL we may have to ditch our pricey united tickets. Glad to hear it was ok. I'm not looking for great, just something cheap to get me from here to there.

CLE is our home airport too. Oh how I miss the days of several flight options from CLE! We have flown Frontiertwice to MCO - Yes, we got there, but I wouldn't choose to fly Frontier again if I had another decent option. I like my vacation to begin once we get through airport security, and that certainly didn't happen with Frontier. Flight delays, tray "tables" if you can call them that barely hold your phone, seats that don't recline, etc. Most importantly, genuinely rude, unhappy employees!
Now that CAK has fewer options, we've started flying out of PIT. CLE is a 30 min drive, and PIT is only an extra hour for us. Lots of direct flight options at great prices! Check them out! Good luck!

Over the past few years Frontier has become our go-to airline. We've been able to get extremely cheap flights as low as $50 RT and up to $100 RT from NJ/PA to Orlando. You do need to know your fees but many can be easily avoided. I do pay to choose our seats because I'm a bit picky and nervous about being separated but I read plenty of reviews from people who don't and they are stills seated with their family.

The flights themselves have all been great. Only one minor delay and that was because of a snowstorm that delayed our incoming flight. The seats are basic and don't recline but for a 2 hour flight that really doesn't bother me. Same for the little trays. It's enough to hold a snack and drink which is all I use it for. Customer service experiences have been great. Even with a last minute cancellation due to illness last year. They even have a policy to issue a credit and waive the change fees if you have an emergency which included illness with a doctor's note.

Only things to know are 1) that yes the pricing structure is ala carte. For me that works very well because I don't need or want the extras. For short trips I take a backpack or diaper bag for free when it fits under the seat. For longer trips we check one large bag for all 5 of us and use the freebies for the rest. No need to pay all those baggage fees. and 2) they have limited flights. In some areas they may only have one flight per day or even 1 every other day. This means if there is a cancellation you aren't getting out a few hours later it could be days later. But I usually fly them out of Philly which has more like 4-5 flights per day. Just something to consider.

I recommend them to anyone who asks. We've only had very positive experiences and are able to go to Disney much more often because we pay so much less for flights. Prior to using them the cheapest we had ever flown to FL was $204 RT. At $50-$100 that's a big savings for our family of 5.

This is great, thanks! There seem to be a couple of flights to Orlando daily from my home airport. Since we are now DVC we are looking to be able to take some quicker trips than in the past. I'm thinking if we just go for a couple of days to hit a holiday party or some other event we can share one suitcase or just pack a small backpack. We shipped our souvenirs home this month and it only set us back $25. I'd rather do that again if need be than pay to check a bigger bag. Longer trips that require more luggage we may go with a different airline but otherwise I think we are going to try frontier.

I used to fly Frontier all the time. In the last few years things have changed and not for the better.

I don't mind the add on fees but they often cancel flights and given their small fleet, this can mean days of being stuck. They had a mass walk out last December and thousands of people including my boss we're left without a way to get to their destinations right at Christmas. Frontier claimed it was weather related but in fact it was a walk out. Baggage sitting around airports, people stranded. Total mess.

So be prepared for anything. The planes have been configured with as little leg room as possible. Seats are thin with virtually no padding, they don't recline and the arm rest is about six inches.

And if you fly them get to your gate very early. They overbook like everyone else but they have a lot of cancelled flights and since they are so overbooked they board early and you can show up on time to a plane that is full and closed. This happened to us last September and we had reserved seats we almost lost in spite of getting to the gate on time early.

It makes me sad because for many years my family flew Frontier ten plus times per year. They treated their customers so well. But then they changed hands and it's been down hill.

Many, if not most people will fly with no problems. But if you encounter a problem it will sadly be one that could cost you a lot of time and money.

And that walk out in December was a result of pilots who felt cost cutting had made things unsafe. Which is why I will never fly them again

I'm sorry to hear you have had so many troubles with frontier. In some ways from what I've heard they remind me of the old Fun-Jet airlines that used to travel to touristy places like Vegas. We flew them frequently and encountered delayed or cancelled flights all the time. It wasn't as big an issue for us as my family had a second home out west and we would be gone for weeks on end so a delayed flight of a day or two was no big deal. But for people taking short weekend get away sit ruined their vacations.

I live in Denver where Frontier is based. I know a lot of people who fly them and I also know people who work in the airline industry here. One in particular who is an air traffic controller told me she'll never fly them.

It was this wth kind of thing back in December when Frontier had cancelled almost all their flights the weekend before Christmas. We had had a snow storm and some flights were delayed but people were getting out. Except for Frontier. My boss was one of the unfortunate ones. Their flight never left but their baggage was missing for almost a week. They ended up spending$$ to fly Southwest and eventually through persistence at both DIA and Orange County in California it was found.

Frontier never did to my knowledge own up to what that debacle in December was all about but frazzled employees at DIA were telling customers what was going on. They literally had executives out at the airport trying to sort things out because their employees refused to work.

Seeing people who's holiday plans were ruined was really sad. Southwest was awesome as were other airlines who did what they could to get people out. At least the ones who could afford to pay for new flights.

This actually occurred on Allegiant. Not Frontier.
