Tiger Woods Dash Cam Video

I'm ambivalent about Tiger at this point, but after watching a portion of the video, I'm unsure first of all why is was released, and second, why they kept persisting when it was obvious that he wasn't coherent.

He's Tiger Woods, that is why it was released. If it was just some Joe Schmoe nobody would care. (I don't care about Tiger, but plenty of people do). If they hadn't persisted and gone through all the "tests" a lawyer could argue that he wasn't fully evaluated for being under the influence.

DH was watching the talking heads on ESPN last night and he and I were discussing it. His point about it going on so long was can you imagine being the cop that pulls over Tiger Woods and has to arrest him, all the while knowing it is on video? NO ONE wants to be that person. Of course, one of the commentators blamed the cops for not doing their job properly. Seriously? I don't know what else they could have done! He got 85 more minutes of chances than the average joe off the street.

Tiger is a mess.

Didn't someone just file a public disclosure request and the police had no choice but to release it?

I'm pretty appalled that the dash cam stuff was released. I'm sure it varies by jurisdiction, but I've assumed that just a public info request wouldn't cut it for releasing that - that there would need to be a compelling reason and court order or something like that. you can easily have completely innocent private citizens whose lives are affected by things like that. Just because Tiger's famous doesn't mean we all have a right to see him at his worst.

Agree.

Bottom line he is driving drunk, which pisses me off for starters. Zero regard for others.

Drunk driving is a slap on the wrist as far as "the law", it is a joke. I expect nothing to come of it, unless he was being charged with manslaughter, which he was not. The article said he "was parked" right? He will get out of it.

He wasn't driving drunk. He did a breathalyzer and blew a 0.0.

Yes, he had a reaction to his medication. Why would he be charged with manslaughter? He didn't kill anyone.

I am saying that it usually takes hitting someone with a car while you are drunk before people arrested for drunk driving are sent to prison.

What medication was it? Sounds something like Ambien.

Did they do a blood test to check for drugs?

The fact that the article referred to him as being parked doesn't mean he gets a pass. I believe he was stopped in the roadway, unsure whether or not his engine was running. No indication he had four ways on. I would hazard a guess to say the key was in the ignition. If there was no blood test done there will be some jobs available at that police department.

Not saying he's headed for the pokey when sentenced, but I think he will be required to undergo some treatment. It also may have repercussions as far as having his license restricted given that it's public knowledge he's been undergoing an extended period of treatment, recovery and surgeries for back and other injuries which are often associated with strong painkillers. Granted, any penalty he faces will have nowhere near the impact the same penalty would on you, me or people of regular means because he has the financial means to cover all without feeling a pinch.

I actually lost a cousin to a drunk driver years ago. He hit four pedestrians, killing my cousin, severely injuring two others. The fact he came from a relatively wealthy family enabled him to avoid any jail time whatsoever. What little consequences he suffered could barely be termed a slap on the wrist. I think Tiger Woods' consequences will be harsher, both because of the changes in attitudes in the years since my cousin was killed, and because this is all playing out in the media under such attention.

He failed a roadside sobriety test and they somehow got his prescription history out of him. His history included painkillers including Vicodin and Vioxx. I have taken Vicodin before, and it's hardly anything that one would want to take and drive while it's working. It's a similar effect to a sedating antihistamine. It causes a certain amount of dizziness and one generally feels funky.

Well - Florida does have a sunshine law, and police video and booking photos are generally considered public records. Occasionally police video might be withheld if there's an active investigation where releasing the video might affect the investigation. I guess this video was considered pretty cut and dried.

As far as being parked goes, if there's any indication that someone has been driving in the same state, being parked on the side of the road is no excuse. Personally I've been buzzed from alcohol and just headed for my car in a private parking lot, and I waited out the buzz in my car listening to the radio. It might have been interesting had police been in the area and saw me and asked me if I had been drinking. I've seen police there even though it's private property.

Where do you live that drunk driving gets a slap on the wrist, especially if a death is involved?

He wasn't drunk, he didn't kill anyone. His car was partially off the road, running, in park & he had his foot on the brake. Dash cam video unless & ongoing investigation is available with a request by the media.

He will face misdemeanor charges from what I understand.

To me he should not be treated any different than anyone else. These people who think they are special should get special treatment. He was drinking when all of his problems started and he never got charged way back when.

I won't agree with the "especially if a death is involved" part, but given number of people I see who get MULTIPLE duis in a short time, the penalties aren't harsh enough where I live. Or at least, not a deterrent.

Then the citizens there need to get the laws changed.

I agree the penalties sp? are not harsh enough for drinking and driving. I watch a lot of bond court and not all judges are the same. Some are harsh, some are not. When they come back to court and had there license taken away, why are these judges not asking who brought them to court. You know for most of them they drove there. But yes something needs to be done with it. I only take 2 of my pills a day for my pain, and I wont get in the car to drive anywhere. I would wait for my pill to wear off and drive. I only usually go to the store which is about a mile. Most of the time DH stops at the store on the way home.

No , Tiger wasnt drinking but being passed out from all the meds is still a problem. I can only imagine what he hit to do that much damage. But that judge that gave that kid a slap on the wrist who killed people , I can't remember his name. I was appauled that the judge did that and then he fled with his mom to NM and mom allowed him to drink over there.

I wonder if he was taking anything new? Something new can hit you in unexpected ways.

If it had the ability to impair him it came with warnings. He was responsible to read and understand the effects of the meds, and heed the warnings regarding operating a vehicle as a licensed driver.

While commonly referred to as drunk driving or DUI, driving under the influence can mean drugs as well as alcohol. Also applies for DWIs.
