DVC used to be able to hop to any pool. They deleted Stormalong Bay when they built Beach Club Villas. Then Animal Kingdom Villas were built and the AKL pools were eliminated. Then BLT and the BLT pool was eliminated. Polynesian Villas and Bungalows - no hopping there any more. There are way fewer pools for DVC members to hop to any more because of the increased DVC members. There is no way Disney would let guests from every category pool hop to their same category. It will be eliminated for all DVC members in the near future.

Can you imagine how many people would use Stormalong Bay if that were to happen?
..I stayed at Beach Club 2 years back & Stormalong Bay definitely wasn't my favorite pool!..I love the lush AKL pool much better.I dont think in general guests would set out to pool hop mad given the choice(to much hassle) but wouldnt it be a great way of planning your next trip for you and your family to try out your planned resort

it always worked well back years ago ,when there was resorts all similar, its only that now they have values so it dosnt balance, but if all categories could swap ,i believe guest would be happier and it would work well!!

My sister is using her DVC points for my room, but she wont be with me. Can I pool hop since the room I'm staying in is paid with points?

That perk requires the member who owns the points to be using the reservation and you staying with her in her villa. Since she isn't there, you don't get any perks. If you ask for a DVC perk they will ask to see your blue member card. You don't have one.

Question about distance between the 2 pools at the AKL: Approximately how far of a walk between the two pools? We are staying at Jambu but would like to check out the Kidani Village pool also.

It's about a half mile from one pool to the other.

I have a question, because maybe I have been doing it wrong. DVC member, when you say DVC can not use AKL or Poly pools, do you mean all, or just the main feature pool. Because last year, and we planned on doing it this year and leave tomorrow, but I don't want to break any rules. Last year when we would be going to say Epcot and have a lunch at Beaches and creams, we would grab our suits and before or after our lunch we would go to the quiet pool at BC and I would lounge as the kids swam, we basically had the pool to ourself just one other family. I did the same with MK and lunch over at poly, we used the quiet pool and lounged around for a while. Again we basically had the pool to ourselves. I knew we could not use the main pool, except on the days we stayed at the resorts and we stayed at 5 different resorts last year, but is it okay to use the quiet pools as a DVC member, or am I doing it wrong. Sorry I don't want to break rules.

This is from the member site (in the Member Benefits section):

Pool hopping is not available at Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Uzima Pool and Samawati Springs Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, the leisure pool at Disney's Beach Club Villas, the Lava Pool and leisure pool at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, the Silver Creek Springs Pool and Hidden Springs Pool at Disney's Wilderness Lodge and the pools at Disney's Art of Animation Resort. There are no exceptions to this policy.

So, no, the quiet pools are not available for pool hopping.

The other part of the equation is you must be using your points for your stay at a DVC resort in order to pool hop. If you are paying cash, you cannot pool hop. If you are staying in a non-DVC room, you also cannot pool hop.

So I was told by reservations that if I'm staying at a resort and my brother who lives in Florida comes to visit with his two girls that as long as pool is not at compacity the two girls can swim. How correct is that?
