Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

Just stayed 2 nights at the Poly last week. A few details that some may find noteworthy. We loved the Poly but felt the room quality lacking for the price. We had just stayed 5 nights prior at Shades of Green and the rooms were much cleaner and the beds much more comfortable. Our 3rd floor patio in the Samoa building had bird droppings on the rail and chairs. Light switches were filthy and carpets were stained. With that said we loved all the other things that the Poly had to offer. It's really not the room you pay for. Our 2 boys LOVED the splash pad. Our oldest was just over the height requirement and it was no big deal. There were several kids there even a little taller than him. Chair saving is REAL folks. I would say quite a few chairs with stuff on them did not have people in the pool area.
Ordered the room service Twilight Feast ! We pre ordered for a set delivery time. Delivery was prompt. They said they prefer this. We ordered 1 meal for 2 adults. This was fine with them. We asked for no shrimp, extra steak and no veggies, extra noodles. No problem! Sooooo much food. There was enough left for another adult! It was great. Bread pudding was cool when we got to it. It is indeed better warm with ice cream. I noticed they did not bring us bread and thought they forgot. Checked the room service menu and it's no longer listed on there. A great value for 2 people for dinner.
Oasis at the quiet pool was fantastic. Great teriyaki hamburger with pork belly and pineapple, excellent pork sliders (better than the sandwich IMO at Captain Cooks) and amazing cinnamon sugar donuts with passion fruit curd. It's kind of like key lime but better. Such a great combo. We ordered them 3 times. Tried the Frosty pineapple as well (frozen dole whip with rum). Very tasty. Wished I has taken up the bartenders offer for a rum floater for $2 though.
We used Lilo's playhouse one nights. Kids had a great time. Dropped them off at 5 and picked them up at 10:30. They met Chip and Dale, baked cookies, did crafts, pretend play, science experiments, had dinner, a snack and a movie had started just before we picked them up. Worth it.
Trader Sams! Soooo much fun. We went at 5 and there was no wait. A few people came in after us as well and there were a few seats still available when we left. I won't spoil the antics but we really enjoyed it.
Let me know if you have any questions!
It looks like the Oasis bar is the only place to get a frosty pineapple. Did you find one any other place? I looked at the menus and didn't see it anywhere else..... It sounds so good!! Can't wait to try it in August. Thanks for the review. I'm always finding such great ideas from this thread. I am a little concerned about the room situation. I wonder if it's all rooms or just isolated to that one building.... thanks again!!

I have our first Poly stay booked for November. I've looked at the map, but can't decide on anything to request room-wise. We have a standard room. I just put 1st or 3rd floor as my request for now, since I'd prefer a patio/balcony. The resort isn't that large that being on one side or the other would be that big of an issues as far as I can tell.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

We stayed in Niue (first floor) for our last Poly visit. LOVED that longhouse! It is centrally located...close to the GCH and both pools, yet it is quiet and the smallest of all the longhouses. Tikiman has a great website that lists all the longhouses along with the pros and cons of each. It is a great source of information.

Sounds like you had a nice time! Thanks for your review :).

A few quick questions please:

1. Are there no cabanas at the volcano pool area? (where the slide/splash pad are?). Is it just tables or lounge seating with umbrellas?

2. What is the height limit at the splash pad? I see a PP said something about a height requirement. I didn't even know there was a limit (other than no adults).

TIA!

1. No. Just tables and loungers.

2. 48" max.

Wonder why the height requirement - I'm sure it has to do with littles not getting trampled or run over by a bigger kid, but wondering if there's another reason behind it and if a kid isn't being rowdy or disruptive, they'll let a slightly taller kid on it without issue.

I'm sure part of it is the size of the enclosed slides. An adult or taller kid really shouldn't go through them. It may end badly.

My over 48" daughter has been permitted in the area to play with her younger brother on several occasions, they just don't let her go down the slide. Heck, DH and I have chased the kids around in there. But I'm sure it's safety for the real little ones, playing in the water spouts, etc.

Good to know, thank you! She'll likely not even bother with that area, but didn't want to cause a problem if she ran over.

How is the transportation to and from Typhoon Lagoon? I have not been to a water park in a very long time. I have read that getting to and from the water parks and DS is a pain.

To get to TL you have to take the bus to DS and transfer to another bus to TL. Same for going back, just in reverse. Total pain. This is one of the worst changes they made last year, IMHO.

I asked about it at check in. They said as far as the height requirement (which is essentially 6 and under) is mostly to keep teens and preteens out. I wanted to make sure my 7 year old would be permitted to play with his 4 year old brother. There is one small slide and one bigger covered one at the splash pad. I did see an attendant tell a few older kids (8 or 9? ) to only use the bigger one. All of the Disney splash pads have the same height limit. The one at Shades of Green was 12 and under though.

We had the water parks and more option for our end of March trip. We took uber back and forth from the water parks. Did not want to mess with a bus transfer. Cost was $7-$9 each way depending on time of day and never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a ride. Drop-off and pick-up is right at the front entrance.

Wow, what a pain is right! It's been awhile since we've done a water park and while there was sometimes 1 resort stop before arriving, a bus transfer was never needed :(.

Yeah, they started this last year sometime. I don't like to jump ugly on Disney changes (change is inevitable), but this one really irks me as it just adds so much wasted time to the process. I would uber/cab given this arrangement, but with our little one that's not really an option I prefer to do. :sad1::sad1:
