Hey friends! Wanting to swing by Mizner's Lounge on our arrival day. Does anyone know the schedule for the High Society Orchestra? I want to be able to listen to the music and grab a drink at Mizner's!
I never could find the times when we were staying at the Grand, but I did find them when searching for things to do for our recent trip.

Here is one way to find the times:
Go to your itinerary in your MDE account. Pick a day of your trip. At the bottom of list of fastpasses and ADR's you'll see Add Things to do on (that hay)
Click on Be inspired, view shows. Scroll down and you will see Grand Floridian Lobby Pianist with a times listing and Grand Floridian High Society Orchestra. You can also find the performance times by clicking on the Things To Do, then Entertainment listings.

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/entertainment/

The funny thing is that I had asked the Concierge desk if they had the performance times and he said that there wasn't a list of times. That they played at random times.

In general, the orchestra plays from about 2PM until 10pm. They will do a set and then take a break. While they are on break, the piano player (who is excellent) will play.
Yesterday, we sat in the lobby for almost an hour listening to the music. To me, this is one of the greatest things about the Grand - the live music.
This is why I'm so excited that we get to go to the Grand. My 73 year old dad is a musician (piano and trumpet) and he's excited to just get to grab a drink and a bite at Mizner's and relax and listen to the music. He'll go to the parks for certain things, but he's not one for all the crowds and rides. So when my kid-at-heart mom and I are off up to our necks in the thick of it at the Magic Kingdom, Dad can be chilling back at the Grand with a drink and some music. Perfect for him!

Does anyone know if Loretta, Patti, and Gayle are still RPC CMs? They've always been so wonderful at breakfast and I thought I might bring them a little thank you gift from home.

Wow..another page 3 rescue!! GF fans..where are you!??? Lol...

Being Disney planners...I am.wondering what people are now doing with all of the new happenings at AK..decisions..decisions...thinking maybe a resort day..we just love those while staying at the GF ..between the pools, the great shopping and of course dining! ( cause it's always about the food ;)) ..and maybe see the new Avatar land at AK in the evening followed by ROL...???

Hope all of my fellow GF groupies as our friend pas has aptly named us...lol...you all know who you are! :goodvibes...are having a terrific Tuesday! :earsgirl:

From Theme Parks board:

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting the following changes to MK Guest Security begin on Monday, April 3rd:

- metal detectors and bag checks at TTC
- Monorail Resorts' guests will go through security screening at the resorts' Monorail Stations
- metal detectors and bag check at MK for guests arriving by bus.

I just read about the security screening on the Orlando Sentinel post. Please tell me how this is going to "enhance" being at Disney? To me, it's more waiting and longer lines, as if the lines weren't long enough already. Look at trying to get into Epcot off the monorail. It takes a long time to go through security.

I hope it's forever. There are a lot of bad people out there lately and so many people go to Disney with very little security. I think this is a great improvement I'm willing to wait a little longer for.

I actually am glad too. I think the security is inevitable and I'd prefer to go through it at the resort before I get on the monorail (and usually waiting a little while anyway) than once I've arrived and am ready to go in!

I have a few questions. :-)

Does anyone know if the main pool has any shaded areas?

We're doing a split stay. On our last day at the GF is it possible to get a late checkout?

Does anyone have a recommendation for room requests? We're in an outer building lagoon view.

Hi GFers
Please ignore my count down. We just rebooked, and will now be staying at the GF 13-23 december. We have DXDP, and have never stayed at the GF before. (we being me, DH, DS (11) and DD (4) )
Anything I need to know? Top tips? For reference, DH and I got married at the Yacht Club in 2010, but now, DH has CLL and DS has ASD (probably not relevant for resort choices - except for monorail etc)
I find the DIS can be a bit challenging, but, I thought I would ask anyway.

Hello my GF buddies!!!

Quick question, I can't remember from last year but where can I request the building I prefer? We're 60 days out and I started my on-line check in and the only room requests they had was upper floor, lower floor....etc etc. Am I missing something, am I too early?

Thanks, I am sure this is easy peasy for you guys!!

Good evening fellow GF fans...before I try to answer my big old multi quote...lol..just wanted to share that I have been in touch with our thread hostess k&a&c'smom..and she asked me to give her regards to you all...:goodvibes...She is hoping to pop in soon to say Hi herself!

When does Gingerbread go on sale? Is it always on sale or just during November/December?

Only when the gingerbread house is open..which typically is mid November...just mentioning that is making me think of that incredible gingerbread smell that the lobby has at that time of year! :lovestruc

Thank you for sharing that very important and helpful info here! :goodvibes

So true..sad but true...I'm willing to wait too...:thumbsup2

I hope this is pretty seamless..and things will move quickly at the resort with less crowds...but as I said..I too prefer the safety the screening hopefully provides..

Not sure which pool you are referring to..so I'll give you details for both..the courtyard pool does have some shaded areas...as there are some large palm trees around the pool deck..the most shaded area is a bit further back on the deck though...the beach pool really does not have shading around it..but there are some very lovely cabanas for rent...there are pictures on page one of this thread..:goodvibes As for a room recommendation ..I don't really have one..I think TPV rooms have the best view! But my preferred building would be Conch Key..mostly for its central location..close to the boat dock, courtyard pool..and not a far walk to the main building... For late check out..you can usually request that at the desk the night before actual checkout..and can be as late as 1pm... Hope that my looong winded response helps! Lol...:thumbsup2

Hi soes anyone have any room recommendations for RPC theme park view? Thanks

Answered this just now on the CL thread! :goodvibes

You are in for a treat staying at GF over the holidays...the resort..and particularly the lobby are spectacular in its Christmas finery! I'd say..later in the day..after the hustle bustle dies down..enjoy the tree..the gingerbread house..the music and photopass opportunity :thumbsup2..With the DDP..I'd say don't miss all of the great GF dining opportunities..Narcoosees, Citricos and GF Cafe too..they offer a nice breakfast...lunch too IMO...

I think I am done with my big old multi quote...:surfweb:...lol...
Hope everyone is having a wonderful Wednesday...:earsgirl: GF gal who is wondering if the ROL dining packages are ever going to open for the summer months! :confused3

ETA....Hi Wishes and MommyG!!!:wave2:..Wishes..I would call and have your requests added to your room reservation..

I just did online check in last week and had the same issues. I had to call and a very nice CM put in my requests for buildings. Evidently they have lots of things wrong on the check in pages. Some of my choices included "near paddock" which is evidently at Saratoga Springs. Just give them a call and they can help.

Hello to my dear GFers. It has been a long couple of weeks following foot surgery for DM. She is fine and my cooking and housework skills have been tested! The good news is that next week we are planning to make a GF booking for May 2018. Nothing like the fun and anticipation of a long lead time! I giggle each time I think of it! RPC here we come!

Does anyone know if Loretta, Patti, and Gayle are still RPC CMs? They've always been so wonderful at breakfast and I thought I might bring them a little thank you gift from home.

They were still at their posts in January. I couldn't agree more about this group of CMs and I'm sure they would love to receive a gift from you.
