Got Kevin's update about the changes ABD made to our trip....is the DisneyLand Hotel a step down from the Grand Californian or what? I'm not too familiar with these hotels...and how about breakfast with Goofy's...is this a better experience than the original planned breakfast?

I think Goofy's is better. It has more food options on the buffet and lots of great characters.

I also prefer the rooms at the DLH. They are brighter and more spacious and the decor is just more pleasing.

As for pricing, a standard room at the Disneyland hotel is less expensive than a room at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel.

As an example, for our travel dates DLH is $512/night and DGCH is $585/night.

So you can see that the pricing difference for our travel dates is not significantly different and they could just make it up with a better room at the DLH.

That said, I'm guessing that the price difference will allow the ABD team to splurge on us in other areas.

I swear I'm not being lazy, I am doing my research...DisneyLand hotel seems nice. I was reading in reviews how construction is going on in the Grand Californian and people staying here instead. Seems nice. Still excited. ha.

Thanks for sharing all of that, much appreciated. Was wondering about pricing and the such.

Got no problem with this change we were looking at staying for d23 but did not have enough points.

The hotel since it was done up looks great and love the head boards, plus Pete gave it a great review.

We've stayed at both the GC and DLH (as well as PP) and agree that the rooms at DLH are nice. You'll love the headboards. Room size is great and they are "brighter" than GC. Slightly longer walk to the parks though.

So excited to hear the last Podcast. A few gems I got from it. Kevin said there may be some good stuff added in lieu of the changes made as well as no change in price becasue of the hotel switch. But the real awesone news, and correct me if I heard wrong, was that Pete is booked for this trip?? I'm in heaven...I now have three of my favorite Podcasters going on this trip. That may make the trip alone for me!

When I went to the Mega Meet in July, I went to dinner with Pete at the Yachtsmen Steakhouse and he told us then he was registered to go. Also, had the opportunity to visit the studio which was a once in a lifetime opportunity. We also spent a good amount of time discussing this trip with Kevin & John the night of our Dessert Party at Epcot and an the Auction site inside the Boardwalk. I too think DL Hotel is better for the reasons mentioned above. Before the change I actually had my post night stay booked at the DL Hotel. There is soooo much history inside that resort. You definitely feel something the minute you step inside.

We watched the 7 in 7 video from the other year when the DIS went and I totally agree the DL hotel is a good one to go to. The pictures on the wall the history.

When we were in California 8 years ago they were doing it up as it looked so run down, but now it looks brilliant. We stayed at the Grand Californian last time, the location is great but the walk to the rooms could take ages.

I am happy with the change, the original hotel and a new one we have not stayed in. The rooms look great just cannot wait now.

Hi All,

I’m a little late but I finally joined the boards and am able to post and introduce myself. My name is Jenn and I’ll be going on this trip with my Mom, Laureen. We’ve never been to Disneyland or taken a vacation with just the two of us. I’m excited to spend some time with her (and leave my dad and brother at home!). We’re both huge Disney fans and have been trying to plan a BSM for several years. My grandparents took us to Disney World for the first time when I was 5. I returned with my parents and brother on my 20th birthday and have visited 4 times since then. I’ve been trying to get my family to return but the past few years have been difficult. My mother and grandmother were both diagnosed with cancer, putting a pause on vacations and life. My mom told me to go ahead and book the trip last year as, “we can’t stop living our lives.” January has been a world of emotions – my grandmother passed away which we’re still trying to process. However, a week later my mom had a checkup after several months of treatment and found out she is cancer free for the first time in 3 years! I’m beyond excited and it’s really starting to sink in that we’re going on this trip in July. I’m an avid podcast listener and am looking forward to meeting Kevin, John and Pete as well as everyone else on the trip. I work full time as a telecommunications analyst and am working on a masters in System’s Engineering. Between work, school and a very active dog, I don’t often take vacations and am thrilled to have the opportunity to take part in this trip.

Can’t wait to meet everyone!
Jenn

Hi Jenn,

Welcome to the group. So glad you are joining us. :)

Hi also to Laureen. :-)

Great idea for the two of you to do this trip. Love that.

I'm sorry that you lost your grandmother. That must be very difficult for you and your mother.
But awesome news about your mother. pixiedust:

Can’t wait to meet you and Laureen too!

Kate
