Goodbye Wishes! Hello Happily Ever After!

Do they currently project on the back side of the castle? That tends to be a big gathering spot as well.

No. The show is all staged to the front. You just get a view of the back fireworks which are actually behind Beast's castle.

I plan to watch it, then decide if we want to keep going back for it or not. Same with ROL.

Seems like a no brainer to me, as you have a ton of people back there enjoying the show as well.
I enjoy being on Big Thunder, 7dmt or even the barnstormer while the fireworks are going. The line is shorter, and it's pretty cool to see them while you are riding.

7dmt is very good with the fireworks as they go off all around you. I've timed many a FP for that.

Dumbo is also a good one for the fireworks viewing.

I also had a good time on splash once, but the timing on that one is super tricky since you're not outside a lot.

well, some go off at the Castle - so you are sort of surrounded by the fireworks - which is really neat. It's one of our favorite spots to view the fireworks - partly because it tends to not be too crowded

Obviously if projections become a big part of the show and only visible from the front that will change things

Not liking this. If the Star Wars show is any indication, it will be less fireworks, more projections, and is going to be very hard to actually see without paying for a dessert party. Yet again about money. Less money spent on pyro, more money made from dessert parties.

I don't know how I feel about the movies that they have stated will be in the show... 4/6 of the movies being from within the last 10 years makes me feel a little weird.
Overall, I'm sad because of my sentimental attachment to Wishes, but also optimistic about what a new show could be. Hope it's not toooooo heavy in the projections.

I agree give me an updated illuminations with no ip of course and we are set!
If they lay so much as a finger on Illuminations, I'll kneecap someone!(*)

I actually think the projections are quite well-down in the Star Wars show. To me, the major flaw there is the extremely limited space from which you can see all of them. Since the castle is massive, I can't imagine this being as much of an issue in MK.

I think this is great news - it is time for a change. I doubt they will reduce the number of fireworks either, as that will have a detrimental effect on all those reservations at California Grill and fireworks cruises.

they do specifically talk about upgraded pyrotechnics as part of the show ... so if I had to guess I think there will be few # of shells used but they will pick ones that are very impressive and it will still be a lot more than what is used in the Star Wars show - which really is a projection show that also has some fireworks/lasers/fire elements with it

well may 11th was going to be our mk fireworks night (last night of trip)... im sure it will be swamped... might have to change that plan!

I would vote for drones to be part of the overhead display...no fallout, but less BOOM...maybe a combination of the two if they could do that without shooting down the drones.... :)

Well all righty then. My head is spinning with all the new news. I'm open to a new show but I dislike the mostly laser shows so my fingers are crossed that they don't go too far on that. Short folks have problems seeing the projections and if by chance you get a good spot where someone can't get in front of you then a darned ole tree will be there. I've tried the Star Wars show twice at HS, getting there good and early to get a good spot (even had a CM move me to the perfect spot) only to have some tall man saunter up about 2 min. before the show and squeeze right in front of me. For FWs that isn't that big of an issue but for projections, forget it. Also, I don't know how I'd feel if Tink didn't fly any more, she is the only reason I go to MK for the show to start with. I plop myself on the concrete benches on the bridge going to tomorrowland where she flies right over and clap and cheer just like a little girl. After that it's all frosting on the cake for me.

I definitely have mixed feelings - I am excited for a new show but Wishes was the one thing that hit me in the "feels" the most of anything Disney does (to the point that if i were to ever get a Disney related tattoo, the phrase "See what a little wishing can do?" would likely be a part of it).

But it has been a while and not realistic to think it would never change

I feel the exact same way.

OK Tanya Harding.

That's a good point. Projections do suck for those of us shorties.

A tall person may block our view of the castle but not of the fireworks.

I feel like I might be in a minority here, but I think it is time for Wishes to go. Wishes has been at the MK for a very long time. It got to the point that I would begin to skip it, because I had seen it so many times. I'll be interested to see what they do with a new show, but I hope they don't reduce the fireworks for more projections. If they do something like Disneyland Forever, then that will make me happy.
