Please do not post to subscribe; use the Thread tools option to subscribe! When replying about a cake, we would like to ask you to not quote a multi-picture post. Respond to the poster by name if you need to. Sometimes multiple people will quote the same multiple picture thread and it takes up a whole page.

When posting photos on the chatter thread please include:

CAKE ORDERING BASICS

CUSTOM CAKE

  1. Find the Disney resort or theme park where you want the cake delivered (room or restaurant) on the list in Post #2 to see whether it is serviced by the Grand Floridian or the Contemporary.
  2. Call/email to place an order at least 72 hours ahead.
  3. There are no standard design options—every cake is a custom cake, so feel free to submit images that show the pastry team what you want.
  4. If you are having the Grand Floridian deliver a cake anyplace but the Grand Floridian, you will need to pay when you place the order. For all other orders, you won’t be charged until the cake is delivered to the restaurant or resort.

FAQ

How do I order a cake at ______________ ?
Use the contact info for the resort or park in the list in Post #2, below.

Is there a web site for viewing cake choices?
Not at this time. The best resource for photos of standard Disney cakes is HERE. For custom cake ideas, see the resources listed under "Photos," above.

Is there an email address for ordering cakes?
For all other locations, you will need to call to place your order. It is sometimes possible to request an individual cast member's email address so that you can send in a cake photo, but DISBoards rules prevent us from posting those here.

Can I get a cake delivered to my room?
At the Grand Floridan, Contemporary, and Yacht & Beach Club only. You do not need to be in the room when the cake is delivered, but you must be checked in.

For any other resort, contact the Grand Floridian (see post #2) to place an order for pickup at your resort's front desk.

Can I pick up a cake somewhere?
The Grand Floridian offers the option to pick up a cake with at least 72 hours' notice (standard 6-inch cakes like those available at restaurant podiums can be purchased with no notice).

Can I get a cake at Disney Springs?
There are no longer any Disney-owned restaurants at Disney Springs, which means you'll have to phone each restaurant individually to see whether it offers custom cakes. Information on cake delivery and pickup options at some of the Disney Springs restaurants can be found under "Disney Springs" in the next post, Cake Options By Location.

Can I order a cake for someone else?
This is tricky. When you place the order, you will be required to provide a credit card number. But unless it's the Grand Floridian delivering the cake to another resort/park, Disney often charges the room or the restaurant bill, so your friend will have to pay the bill. Also, sometimes the server doesn’t realize there is a cake for the table, so if no one in the party knows about it and reminds him/her, it may never appear.

When should I order my cake?
No less than 72 hours ahead of time for simple cakes. For complicated fondant designs, at least 1 week's notice is necessary. Disney will take your order up to 90 days ahead, but be sure to reconfirm it a few days out to be sure it hasn't been lost.

What size cake do I need for my group, and how much will it cost?
Standard, non-custom cake prices:
  • Mini-cake serves 2, starts at $40
  • 6-inch serves 5, starts at $50
  • 8-inch serves 8, starts at $70
  • 10-inch serves 16, starts at $90
  • 1/4 sheet cake serves 25, starts at $125
  • 1/2 sheet cake serves 50, starts at $165
  • Full sheet cake serves 100, starts at $225
Prices for customized fancy cakes start at $140 for a 6-inch cake.

DISer @sdk1231 is a pro cake baker and recommends this pricing calculator to get a rough estimate of how much your custom cake will cost: http://www.galabakery.com/cake-ulator

When do I pay for my cake?
If you are ordering from the Grand Floridian for delivery to another resort or park, payment is due when you place the order. Otherwise, you usually pay when the cake is delivered to you at the restaurant or it is added to your hotel bill upon delivery to your room.

Cakes delivered to your room at a Disney resort via Private Dining will incur the standard Private Dining delivery fee (currently $3) and service charge (currently 18%).

Cakes delivered to a meal at a restaurant will be added to the total bill for the meal. This allows you to apply Tables In Wonderland, AP, DVC and other discounts to the price of the cake, but it also means the price of the cake will be included when they calculate any automatic gratuity like those associated with large parties and Tables In Wonderland.

Do I need to bring my own candles?
No. Disney's table-service restaurants and resorts can provide candles upon request.

What flavors are available?
Options vary by location, but there is always chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and vanilla cake with vanilla frosting. This is a list of flavors for cakes made by the Grand Floridian's Wedding Cakes team. Because they are separate from the team that makes other celebration cakes at the Grand Floridian, not all of these flavors may be available for non-wedding cakes. But it never hurts to ask!

  • Almond Cake + Amaretto Crunch Mousse
  • Red Velvet Cake + Cream Cheese Mousse (I prefer Disney's cream cheese buttercream frosting — tastes less cheesecake-y)
  • Chocolate Cake + Peanut Butter Cup Mousse (I prefer Disney's peanut butter buttercream frosting for the same reason)
  • Yellow Cake + Tropical Mousse
  • Any cake + fresh fruit fillings (strawberries, raspberries, etc.)

Can I get a fancy, fondant-covered cake or a mini cake in a theme park?
Only at Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and any restaurant in EPCOT *except* those in the Mexico, China, Italy, Japan, Morocco, and France pavilions. Place your order through the Grand Floridian (see Post #2)

I got married at Walt Disney World. How do I get a re-creation of the top layer of our wedding cake?
Contact your wedding planner. If your wedding was in the last five years, they can access your BEO to get an exact description of the cake and send it to the Grand Floridian's wedding cakes team. Otherwise, you can submit photos to the Grand Floridian or Contemporary pastry teams to help them replicate your cake.

Is the frosting buttercream or whipped cream?
Custom-ordered cakes may be available in a choice of buttercream or whipped cream.

Will the cake have four layers in each tier or only two?
If you want a taller cake, be sure to specify that you want four layers inside, not just two. Disney's multi-tier wedding cakes have four layers in each tier by default.

I don't like the taste of fondant but I want an elaborate cake. What should I do?
Disney's cakes come with a layer of buttercream underneath the fondant and can be served with the fondant removed. You can also specify whether you want vanilla or chocolate buttercream underneath the fondant.

Which characters can I get on my cake?
Any character from the extended Disney family (Star Wars, Muppets, Pixar, Disney Junior, et al.) except Winnie the Pooh & Friends. (Note: Awareness of this rule varies, so if you want Pooh, it never hurts to ask.) Characters cannot be sculpted 3-D, they must be rendered as a flat screen print directly on the cake or on a standing piece of white chocolate. The exceptions are the white chocolate character statues available for an additional charge. Alternatively, you may be able to work with the bakery to provide your own plastic figurines to be placed on the cake.

Which white chocolate characters are available?
Prices are $15-$65 and figures can be fully painted for an additional charge. The selection varies by location, with the Grand Floridian offering the widest variety. Check with Private Dining when you order.

  • Dale
  • Ariel
  • Belle

  • Captain Jack Sparrow
  • Jedi Mickey

Can I get a cake shaped like something besides a circle or a square?
The Grand Floridian is your best bet for a specially shaped cake, although the Contemporary may be able to do certain styles.

Can I send in a picture of what I want?
Once you make contact with a Disney cast member, you can work with him or her to e-mail photos to the pastry chef.

Where can I get a mini cake?
The Grand Floridian, the Contemporary, or any location serviced by these bakeries.

Can I get something other than a cake, like chocolate-covered strawberries?
Your best bet is to be staying at the Grand Floridian or the Contemporary, since their private dining menus usually have a section for "celebrations" or edible "amenities" you can have delivered to your room. Click here for a sample of the cake-alternatives at the Contemporary Resort. You'll need to contact private dining to see what they offer.

Where can I get the chocolate Cinderella Slipper Dessert?
The Cinderella Slipper Dessert is available at the Grand Floridian and the Contemporary Resort. Cinderella's Royal Table at the Magic Kingdom no longer offers the Cinderella Slipper Dessert; instead they have a chocolate sphere with a small slipper inside. For more information and photos, see THIS PAGE.

What if someone in my party has dietary restrictions?
In general, Disney will do its best to accommodate dietary restrictions like allergies, but it’s best to call to find out your options. Usually they will refer you to vegan bakery Erin McKenna’s Bakery at Disney Springs, which delivers two-layer 6-inch cakes (serves 8–10) to restaurants on Disney property for $59.50. The design is a Mickey border at the top; you may choose up to 2 colors and an inscription. The price of the cake is $69 if you pick it up at Erin McKenna's, but there are more character options.

Call 407-938-9044 to order (Monday – Friday, 9am–5pm). Erin McKenna’s offers gluten-free, wheat-free, soy-free, casein-free, egg-free, vegan and kosher baked goods.

Will the restaurant hold my leftover cake until the end of the night?
Disney's official policy forbids this as a food-safety precaution, but some guests have been able to get Disney restaurants to hold their leftover cake. Just don't count on it.

How do I order a cake at the Swan or Dolphin?

Thanks for the new thread, @lurkyloo! I'll start with a question / request for suggestions. Has anyone ordered a Seven Dwarfs Mine Train cake? I'd like a 6" fondant in this theme, ordering from BWI Bakery for pickup during Marathon Weekend. I'd like to avoid printed graphics and stick with fondant decorations. I may just need to request the theme without sending photos (gasp!) :)

It's been a while since I've ordered a cake August 2013 to be exact. What would be the lead time to request a cake? I'm not looking for one until May 2017. If I'm not mistaken it was about 2 weeks.

I'd like a 6" fondant in this theme, ordering from BWI Bakery for pickup during Marathon Weekend. I'd like to avoid printed graphics and stick with fondant decorations. I may just need to request the theme without sending photos (gasp!) :)

I haven't seen one yet, but it's a great idea! BoardWalk Bakery may tell you that you need to order an 8-inch or a 10-inch to really do up the fondant decorations.

Two weeks is good, unless you want to get approval to use a character they don't have permission for or you have a really complicated request. I'd also check back a day or two beforehand to be sure they have the order exactly as you want it.

Thank you very much! That's what I thought. I appreciate your upkeep of this thread. It means a lot to many of us.

We are recently back, and I wanted to post about our wonderful cake we had at Narcoosse. Our arrival night was my mom's birthday so I ordered a birthday/arrival cake. It was a 6 inch cake, chocolate cake with strawberry moose filling with real strawberries, and vanilla frosting under the fondont. A few notes about the ordering processes. I worked with Pat at the GF. It was very clear in speaking to her that she was going by a script and she did not offer a large variety of choices. When I asked politely about other options for fillings she was intially hesitant and asked what my budget was. After responding that I wanted to keep the cake to $100 or less she was accomdating to my requests. We were charged exactly $100 for the cake. My best advice if ordering from the GF, be prepared before calling with exactly what you want. Thanks to all of you on this board I knew about different options and what to ask for! Most importantly the cake looked wonderful and tasted delicious.

Is there any general info for ordering cupcakes at Magic Kingdom? I am looking at ordering one for each of my girls on our arrival night when we have reservations at BOG. I also need to order a second birthday cake for Chef Mickey's but I know who to contact for that one. :) Thanks!

Last night we had our delicious cupcake at BOG. It was super cute! Luz, our server, said she'd bring round dessert and winked at me so somehow she figured out who ordered it or who I was at the least. It was awesome! My friend was surprised and enjoyed it! No room for dessert off the cart though! Well worth the $10 for the cupcake!

Does anyone know if any of the bakeries have or can use Marzipan? My twins have never had dessert at Disney that wasn't fruit or an occasional marshmallow or sorbet because of allergies. I came across something about marzipan today and realized that they can eat this because almonds are safe for them. I was thinking about seeing if along with our cake order for the rest of us, they might be able to make a few little figures or something out of Marzipan for our twins so they don't feel left out. I normally bring them a little something from home but this would be so much more exciting for them.

Just curious if anyone knows if it's something they already use in the bakeries.

Thanks!

The CR bakery is not calling me back! I called 3 times and left messages, is this normal?
Is there another # I should call other than 407-824-2955?

Just as I hit post they called me back, so all good now. Put my order in.

Completely new to cake ordering through Disney and could use some guidance from the pros. We are celebrating my dad's 70th birthday at Yachtsman in a couple weeks. There will be 12 of us, but 2 are gluten free so wont be eating the cake. My dad loves chocolate and I was looking at the Mickey Head cake with chocolate ganache. Not sure if I should stick with that, order a regular chocolate round cake or go for something custom. He really is not into any of the Disney character's so I am at a loss for what to do. Any suggestions would be welcome!

Unbelievable....ordered a cake through Pat at GF on 10/15 to be delivered to our Ohana dinner tonight for my daughter's 15th birthday, linked to the ADR, confirmed with dining this week, and charged to the credit card on 10/21.

No cake.

Lots of drama surrounding the missing cake, so now I have a stressed kid, who feels bad that I feel bad, but now not even a surprise cake because of so many staff people asking about the missing cake which is clearly not here.

Apparently, Pat went with the date in an early, "is this possible" email instead of the date and ADR given in the phone call to place the order. She matched the ADR with the order on the phone.

$130+, lots of stress, NO CAKE.

Editing to add that Ohana said there was nothing they could do, Pat just called to say she was sorry, but there is NO CAKE.

Does anyone have any info on the changes to Magic Kingdom cake options after December 15th? I know for some time they have been reimagining cake offerings there. Just curious to know if anyone has any new info.

By all accounts, the Mickey Head cake is quite delicious and quite chocolatey. I think it's a safe bet, and it'll definitely feed 10.

:scared1: Is there any time left on your trip? They should still be able to make it for you within a day or two. And after all the hassle, they should let you pick it up at the GF if you're not dining there or at the Poly anytime on the rest of your trip.

It was a one night stay in a bungalow at the Poly before we headed to Vero Beach. We'll be back Monday at GF, so I emailed Pat last night with a non-cake idea (chocolate characters for each of the 5 children), but have not heard back. My credit card has not been refunded for the charge for the cake, and no one has offered to do that, so I wanted to reallocate the funds somehow.

The thing is, no matter what, the moment is gone. Instead of a pleasant surprise, my child was placed in the middle of a mess up, including the Ohana manager coming to the table to ask about the missing surprise cake. The wow...the moment...the surprise is gone, and all we got out of it was a hefty credit card charge, disappointment and frustration.

To be completely fair and give credit where it is due, I've ordered numerous cakes through the Contemporary over the years, and they have ALL exceeded expectations and were delivered flawlessly.
