Do you agree with this list of Disney resorts to avoid?

I think all of these are spot BUT, I am a fan of the newly designed Swan rooms and I think the GF villas are spectacular if you can rent DVC points to bring the price down a bit.

She is a big fan of the moderate hotels, which I have yet to try. I'm either at AoA & Pop or deluxe resorts.

I am now persuaded to try PO-Riverside, as I can tell from this board how much everyone seems to like it.

Can't agree with even half of it. I'm not a fan of the value resorts, and personally wouldn't stay in them, but have stayed in both Pop and ASSp and would recommend Sports over Pop. I wouldn't take AoA out of the value category even though the price is even with a moderate since if you aren't getting a suite, the rooms are the same level as the other value resorts but you pay more.

Of the moderates, I've stayed at all except POFQ, did walk over and have been to the lobby and food court. I wouldn't recommend CSR, I'd say CBR is better. I just got back a couple of weeks ago from CSR and it just didn't feel as comfy to me as POR and CBR and I paid more for it. The only reason I even stayed there is I was doing a split stay and am on a mission to stay at all the resorts at least once. It is the only moderate I wouldn't repeat unless the price was just so low that wouldn't make sense not to.

I'd go with any of the Epcot deluxe resorts as a favorite deluxe hands down, with YC being my #1. I enjoyed AKV, we had a Savannah view one bedroom, it was big and it was comfy and I would stay there on a split stay again, but it wouldn't be my #1.

I've stayed at OKW, not SSS yet and I agree it is a fair distance from the parks but if I had to choose between that and off site, OKW would win every time.

I've stayed at Swan and loved it and would stay there over any of the MK deluxe resorts in a heartbeat. Especially if I had points, yes you have to pay the resort fee and the parking, but if you have points to spend you are getting an Epcot resort for around $50/night, it's a no brainer. No it isn't in your face Disney but that might actually make it more attractive.

Have to disagree with GF, if I were going to stay at a MK resort, that would probably be my #1 choice. I've stayed at GF, Poly and CR, not WL yet and love GF. You can get it for much less that $600 a night if you are just diligent in looking for discounts.

I'm not a big fan of renting points, I've done it (that was my OKW visit) and just don't like the restrictions. I rarely know any further in advance than 3 months that I'm going, I don't like not having the option of cancelling and if I'm staying in a DVC I'd rather do it through Disney and get the resort benefits of daily mousekeeping, coffee every day, etc.

I am in full agreement with that list. Seriously how does a Disneyworld cheap room rate $600 compared to full suites ive stayed in Paris for much less?

I agree. Pretty much anywhere in the world (and I don't mean disneyworld), $600 a night would get you a kick *** room. With that being said I'm paying $439 before tax for a CR room and I want to throw up but I love the location. It still bugs me when I read "it's the garden wing, so it's in one of bargain rooms". Uh no that's not a bargain. Again, I agreed to it but the prices are ridiculous!

It's really hard to rent into VGF most of the time. You have to find someone with VGF points.

Now, Saratoga and OKW? You can rent there for about the same or less than POR or POFQ, and the rooms are bigger/nicer.

I'm staying at Pop this month for the first time but I've stayed at ASSp several times. Why do you recommend Sports over Pop?

I was in the touchdown section of Sports, the section across the parking lot from the bus stops at Pop so although I'll say the distance to the FC and bus stop was shorter at Sports, it really wasn't that much at Pop. Pop just seemed more run down to me, my room smelled dank and the bathroom really needed some love. My room at Sports was cleaner and the bathroom was fine. The public areas seemed less frantic and crowded at sports than Pop.

Well, the only one on her list that we've actually stayed at is POR, but we did love it!

I'm curious about the "Disney Springs Hotels" she mentioned, though. Are they sort of "Disney, but not Disney", like the Swan & Dolphin?

No, I don't agree. Then again, I do like all the WDW resorts, so I wouldn't be avoiding any of them. I love the GF (luxurious) and I love the Swan/Dolphin (so convenient). I enjoyed staying value and saving a ton of $$$ at the All Stars. I thought that the theming and beauty of CSR was awesome.

Same.

I actually like the All Stars, and I see zero difference between them and Pop, though she does.

We used a free night to let my cousins stay at either the Swan or Dolphin, and I visited the room, and it was great. I don't need Disney Disney Disney everywhere to have it be a lovely hotel.

LOVE SSR and OKW.

Never stayed at GF. But I don't think *any* hotel is worth $600/night so using Points is the only way I would ever stay there.

AKL is my least favorite of any hotel apart from one hole I stayed in on the way from SC to VA one time.

POR is good; I agree with that.

Haven't stayed at CSR, Waldorf, or the DS hotels.

Nope.

We love Sports. It's a good size so really no room is a long way from anything. We love the baseball section. It's always been quiet back there. The baseball pool is great. Plus we love sports so the theming works for us.

POFQ is the only moderate we like. Again the size is manageable and we enjoy the fun theme and the boat to DS.

The other mods are just too spread out for us. I don't want to have to hop a bus or walk 15 minutes in the heat to grab something to eat or drink or go to the front desk at the resort I'm staying at.

I like all the deluxe resorts and if I had the money someone should have paid in taxes over the last two decades I'd probably stay at GF once a year for a week without a second thought.

No. I really like the Swan & Dolphin. You get a great Epcot resort for much less than the BW, BC or YC. I don't need Disney theming everywhere. Why would the Disney Springs hotels be better?

I don't agree at all with this list but I sure hope others do! It would make it easier to get into the places we like!

We are DVC now - but our favorite non-DVC resort is hands down POFQ. I cannot stand the size of most of the others. We also enjoy a night or two at All Star Sports when we are looking for budget friendly. We recently spent some time at CBR and also enjoyed that as well - the theming suited us better than POR for a room that slept 5.

We are not big fans of the location of Swalphin (but the restaurants are good) - it's not close enough to any park for us.

We have stayed at BC, AKLV, OKW, Poly, CBR, CSR, and visited ALL of the other resorts - our favorite to stay in seems to be BLT without much contest (locations, bathrooms, size, pool all win!). We like the location of BC and BW but We don't love the 1 bedroom bathroom layouts. OKW is our second favorite I think - great convenient parking, quiet pools/playgrounds are always close and the rooms are huge!

CSR is our least favorite. AKL KV- rooms are lovely and spacious but too far from Jambo.

Again - I hope people agree and follow this blog advice!

I have only stayed at WL and booked in at Poly for next time.
Disney value is a whole new concept separate from real world value. So, really, it's an individual choice.
I am starting to feel worse and worse about this, but, it is what it is for now, and we are not going back so...

She sounds very jaded. While the prices are high, it's Disney, and it's expected. As long as people keep coming at $600/night, they'll keep charging. I also expect budget feel at the values. When I can stay at Disney cheaper than I paid for a room last week in Hartford, CT, I really don't expect the best of the best.

nope- the article made laugh..... seriously? I guess it's just opinions but.... my FIRST choice of hotel ANYWHERE onsite is the Swan/Dolphin duo..... it is my FAVORITE place to stay, ever. The only slight agreement I have with the article is the all-stars... not awful, just not my favorite place to stay. I hate articles like these b/c people read them, and take it literally, thinking they too would hate those places. Just not true, what one person dislikes, another likes just fine. OKW? Really? I have so many great memories there.....

I don't agree at all with the recommendation to stay off property ("Disney Springs Hotels"). Of course WDW resorts are more expensive, but on our trips we want to have the full Disney experience the entire time and it's more than worth the extra price for us.

Just curious but if you like the location of BC and BW why do you think Swan/Dolphin isn't close to anything. It's actually closer to HS then the other two and only a few steps farther from Epcot than the farthest away BWV.
