There have been reports that they are filling in some of the pools, probably to cut down on standing water, but no indication that they are demolishing it completely. I follow Disney permits pretty closely but I have not seen any demolition permits. This is not to say it won't happen at some point, I just don't think it's happening now.

I have a question that has been bugging me since I learned about River Country, why haven't they taken it down? It's just rotting useless space and everyone knows that. It's not like they don't have the funds. Is it just they have no reason or are just lazy about it? I'm really curious about it.

Disney tends not to take things down until the space is needed for something else. For example the Fantasyland skyway station was there until they decided to build the Tangled restrooms. It might have to do with budgeting the demolition cost into the new project.

Oh that makes sense, though I wonder if it's a hazard. I've seen videos of people sneaking in there and it can't be safe. Of course Disney probably wouldn't be held liable if someone got hurt in a restricted area.

Well it was slated for a new stand alone DVC hotel once but plans changed.

They don't pay for what they don't implicitly need to have done.

River country sits because the space isn't wanted for anything else...

Like wonders of life and imagination ;)
Which is one of the things that upsets me about Disney sometimes. We have so much abandoned space that should be dolled up before we break out the shovels. Of course I'm probably in the minority in that belief:P

You are in the astute/long range thinking minority...

...and we party hearty when we get together ;)

Those plans fell through years ago.
I actually stumbled across concept art for that "resort", it was actually very nice. They gave a construction timetable too show how spaced out construction would've been

As for this: Another rumor here that I've seen so many times that I'm starting to doubt it will ever happen

As long as they can keep selling DVC at the current and projected future costs of ownership, they will find somewhere to build....Until the whole place is a DVC kingdom with a couple parks attached......... Did you know the contracts for DVC specify that there is no guarantee that the parks will be in existance through the contract term? Nor do they guarantee animals at animal kingdom lodge.......

Geez lots of hate for DVC. Can't we just agree that ALL timeshares are evil? Location schmocation people like me going because they have a choice and not because of contractual obligation are where it's at. Though the DVC was my family's biggest regret not signing up for
