Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE RESORT Information & Questions

Hi.

We are considering POR next year. I really want to stay in the mansion house section, we stayed here for our honeymoon many moons ago... I was wondering if I should just book a standard Royal Room to ensure we end up in the area we want. Or if I booked just a standard room would we have a good chance of getting our request granted, there are just 3 of us.

The Royal Rooms do look lovely but as we are planning on 18 days it's about £600 to upgrade.

Thanks for any advice.

I adore the Royal Rooms! That being said, I would have a hard time spending 600 quid on that upgrade. That's about $850 and I keep thinking of all that could get you! But they really are gorgeous rooms. But I'm like a 5 year old girl who's just happy there are fireworks in my headboard!

It's up to you. But I've had many POR stays, and always request Acadian House or Magnolia terrace, and I've never been put in the AB section. I also send a fax 4-5 days before check in with my requests, which I also have noted on my reservation. So I think you do have a good chance of getting your requests.
We have stayed in the Royal Rooms once, and enjoyed it. We were in Oak Manor.

Probably a bit late now, but you would have been better booking Standard View. Garden View within the Alligator Bayou section specifically means views out into the bayou/woods/streams/etc - or in your words, "swamp". Standard View would more likely place you close to the parking lots with less vegetation around you, which seems to fit your wishes better.

Requesting a specific building won't help much, so I'd suggest telling them that you don't want too enclosed a woodsy/watery view, but it won't be too easy (unless they technically downgrade you) as that is really the whole point of Garden View rooms in that area. You could request a room as close as possible to the riverbank pathway, which while it would not be directly overlooking the river would mean you won't be walking too far into the woods (however that would also mean furthest from the parking lots, so to get to your car you'd still be walking through woodsy routes).

Take a look at http://www.portorleans.org/gallery-POR-AB.php for lots of photos of the sort of area you have booked:

Andre, do you remember where you took the pics of AB garden view areas?? (BTW, I have these pics as my desktop background... loving it!!!)

In Alligator Bayou...? :)

Which specific ones though, I've taken hundreds all around the resort (you can gain a clue from the roofing though, the 14-18 area has different styles to 24-28 and 34-39)

Does anyone know if bus monitors are up and running for bus depot other than the South Depot? I didn't know if they were just at the South Depot or if we will be able to use them at the other depots.

Someone said they had seen screens installed, but I've not heard that they are running yet.

This is our first time travelling with a really little one. I just called to put in my request for a pack and play. The very nice CM who helped told me it wasn't guaranteed. Has anyone ever not received one? My youngest will be 18 months and needs a contained place to sleep. We are not flying, so bringing our own isn't an option. Can anyone reassure me that I will be getting a pack and play? Thank you :)

You can rent a crib from kingdomstrollers.com. They will deliver the crib to your resort. It's an additional cost but you will have a crib for your baby for sure instead of taking a chance for the free pack N play which is given on a first come first serve. All requests are not guaranteed. Hope it helps.

We are reading on moderate resorts and one thing that scare us is having to walk far in August (hot, humid if not pouring).
We would not book Royal or Preferred room in order to save money. So reading that we would have a good chance to get Acadian House or Magnolia terrace if we request it properly is a good news!

Wait, are you in fact driving? We always drive and pack a pack n play. I've never heard of someone not getting one to be honest, but then again, we always pack ours as we drive as well and it's not a huge deal to put in the car. However, we were thinking our May trip would be our first "we don't pack the pack n play" trip. Guess I'll see what they say since we won't be at Riverside. But I've never heard of it being an issue.

So, I requested high floor/corner room and I booked a garden view room. Will I be most likely staying in the mansion themed buildings? Thanks.
