Most Overrated things people rave about at WDW

The best thing about this thread is seeing the reality of the phrase "in the eye of the beholder." Some love and hate the exact same things, and that is one reason WDW is so successful, they have something for almost everyone!

Just don't give up on things after one bad try; for instance:
Be Our Guest Lunch - WOW is this overrated. We went and it was terrible. But dinner is worth the hype, because it was wonderful! Thank goodness for dinner there!
If you liked dinner that much, my guess is you caught a bad day for lunch (could be wrong though if the menu just didn't suit you).

What are some of the most overrated things to do at WDW for you guys.. Could be attractions shows retaurants etc
My top 5
1-Fantasmic(blah)
2-Dole Whip
3-Soarin(just ok in my opinion)
4-mickey ice cream bar
5-Carribbean Beach resort

Soarin and TSMM. I like them just fine. But not willing to wait in line for an hour for them. Would rather skip them altogether if I don't get a FP.
Also, everything Frozen-related.

I do not get Peter Pan either. Yes it is a cute ride, but I feel the Fast Pass system has to be looked at on this ride. There is no reason that ride goes to a 90 minute wait in the stand by line. The CMs do not make FP people wait at all, if they see you walking up, they allow you on. 20-30 people on standby could get on the ride, if they would make FP people wait even a minute.
Agree 100%. Something very wrong there. I have had to duck out under the steel ropes from stand-by line more than once b/c the wait was beyond crazy. Desperately needs to be fixed.

This thread is very cool and welcoming to read especially in light of all the recent martyr threads on the DisBoards!!!

Okay, so I've been thinking of more things to post. And... I think Beaches & Cream ("B&C") is overrated (sorry B&C lovers). Whereas B&C is cute, fun and bright, it is also teeny tiny! Which explains why ADRs are hard to come by. I have eaten at B&C, a regular burger and milkshake, it was good, my kids were happy. However, I must admit The Fountain over at Dolphin offers a bigger menu, bigger seating area, and better milkshakes. The Fountain does not have lights, sirens, singing, dancing, and no kitchen sink either, but The Fountain is a great alternative to B&C if you want a burger and milkshake in the Disney Boardwalk area and you can't get ADRs for B&C.

1. Love seeing characters, but waiting to meet characters? Overrated. (the interactions with face characters creep me out a bit)
2. "Drinkin' 'Round The World"
3. Staying offsite ;)

(I think the presence of disney transportation on everyone's list means that it is far from overrated. How much can you really like a bus anyway?)

• I can understand the dole whip because menchies carries this.
• 7dmt fun but not worth the wait. Too short.
• sorin also fun but not worth all the fuss
• BoG I just don't understand the food is so so.
• Disney restaurants although some are fantastic most are vastly overrated. Crazy expensive and to me most restaurants too inconsistent.
• fantasmic it just sucks but Rivers of light looks very promising

The Polynesian

I just don't get it. It's like a cheesy "The Brady Bunch goes to Hawaii". It's so dated. Don't get me wrong- we really, really try to "get it". We have eaten multiple meals there, saw fireworks from the beach, had drinks at the bars, walked the grounds but, still, think it is so dated and blah. I remember even taking the elevator in the lobby- it was like an old department store elevator- small and dated.

But I will say I enjoy Grand Floridian- the live orchestra is wonderful and you can request Disney tunes. There is something so magical watching kids dance on the "stage" in front of the elevator as a live orchestra plays a Disney tune.
Oh, that's what I love about the poly !! The Brady bunch cheese factor !! Reminds me of my 70's childhood.
Mine would have to be :

Disney crappy free transportation
MVMMCP and MNSSHP
"FREE" dining promo
And TURKEY LEGS !! Nasty watching people eat those .

I'm an 80s baby so I didn't get that- LOL. Also, it seems like a lot of people love it b/c they stayed there with their family as kids and it brings back a lot of memories. I was lucky to go to Disney a few times growing up but we always stayed at the cheapest place WAY off property so I never got that feeling. Poly is all nostalgia-

peter pan. Every time I think I won't bother with it but when I see 30 minutes wait 10 minutes after park opening I begin to wonder if I missed something really cool about it. I do it and no - I didn't miss. Not worth the wait

characters. I don't get them at all.

Yes!! What is up with the wait time at Peter Pan??? It is always so high yet I never hear anyone say they actually love it and look forward to it. It never makes sense to us.

Poor Peter Pan. If I'm in MK early in the a.m. and walk by it and the posted stand-by wait is like 30 mins or less, I jump in the line. Because that stand-by line is usually nuts. However, within 10-15 mins of waiting in line, they flip the posted time on me to 50 mins or more. Then I bail. And I'm not the only one. I'm managed to ride it x2 over the past number of years. Its a nice, nostalgic little ride. But an hr stand-by is not worth it unless you have very young children who are in love with the movies. Then there's that. I feel for you if you are a parent, grandparent or auntie or uncle with kids in tow dressed up as Peter, Wendy and the whole shebang. Life can always be worse!

BOG.
We have been a couple of times. DD's and DW love it but for me it was "just Ok". Not worth the headache to try and get a reservation.

The trick is to become one of us eating those turkey legs. Then you don't have to watch! :-) ps Have you ever watched someone eating the Gaston's Pork Shank? Think they have been removed/reduced in availability but makes us Turkey People look positively refined. :P Edited to add: I've shared these with young nieces as they are one of those must-do's that the kids love. Is it a meal replacement for me? Umm, no. But when the girls eye them up at the stand, I just channel my inner Cave-Lady, Purell up my hands and go for it. Maybe not one of my prouder moments but at WDW everyone gets to be a kid again. Nothing better in this World than being the "fun, crazy Auntie."

For me, it has to be
1. The Anna and Elsa in Princess Fairytale Hall
2. Stitch's Great Escape(Utterly terrified of its predecessor. I can't even SLEEP some nights because of it.)
3. Kali River Rapids(I just really hate this ride due to personal experiences, it's kinda buried under the dust tho)
4. Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters
5. Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress.
This is all just personal stuff, tbh
