It's A WONDERful 2015 - Feb Cruise, May WDW grand tour, and France/DLP! NEW 10/25 Nice & End!

Welcome back! Maya is adorable, and looks a lot like Aria! I'm sorry that you're dealing with an elimination diet and I hope that Maya grows out of her allergies. You might remember Rory has several food allergies, and just 2 days ago we had to take Lola to the ER for an allergic reaction to something she ate. So we are scared to feed her anything now!

I'm glad you had a nice, long trip to WDW and can't wait to hear about it. I think you are definitely making a good decision by going with just Aria in May. I can't even imagine how difficult it would be traveling alone with both of them. I am sad that we'll just miss each other (we get there on May 5th), but seeing your Boston Boat show picture made me think that maybe we can do a local meetup some time. I forgot how close we are.

That is fun that Aria is now 40 inches and can ride some of the thrill rides! Rory is just 35 inches so he's looking forward to the Barnstormer. How exciting that this is a surprise trip!

Question about the Tonga Toast - is it normally dairy-free, or did they have to modify it for you?

What do you think caused Lola's allergic reaction?? How scary! Have you had to change your diet at all for her? I don't look forward to starting solids if she already is prone to allergies. I do remember that he had allergies as well, and sorry he has not outgrown them :(

YES I forget how close we are too. @JulieODC is also local and I'm surprised we haven't met up yet! Although Disney things always seem like they are far away even if they are local DIS friends.

Barnstormer will be SO great. It's still a favorite even when Aria can ride bigger ones. How fun!!

They did have to modify the Tonga Toast to a different dipping sauce on the bread (egg based instead of milk based, I believe), and I couldn't have the strawberry syrup but I don't remember if that was due to dairy or soy. I don't mind at all though, the sugar crusted bread with banana inside tasted amazing with the syrup - especially after so few other options the entire trip.

The other morning at daycare, all Lola had was a quinoa baby cereal and banana, both of which she has been having for 2 months. They swear that they didn't give her anything else, so I'm thinking it was the cereal. Her skin hasn't been great for a while and we were attributing it to drool rash, but since we stopped the cereal her skin looks great, so maybe she was showing signs all along of an intolerance, I'm not sure. It's so scary, though. Michael said she blew up like a little marshmallow, threw up, and had hives all over her. So now both my kids have Epi-pens... The strange thing is that I have not had to change my diet at all for either one of them. Rory was never affected by anything I ate, and Lola hasn't been, either. It's really bizarre.

Good to know about the Tonga Toast. We are staying at the Poly for a couple of days pre-cruise, so maybe Rory and I can split a dairy-free version.

I know Aria is going to love her solo trip! I started taking by boys on solo trips when my oldest was 5 and my youngest was 3. They both cherish that one-on-one time, and the child at home enjoys unlimited access to Daddy's attention, so win-win. They love it so much that when I offered a family trip or for them each to get a solo trip, they picked solo!

Good luck surviving the eliminations. I remember when John-Harper was a newborn, they had to keep re calibrating his reflux meds as he grew-- even a few ounces would throw him off! I had to eliminate egg because of Grady's allergies, and dairy and tomatoes with JH. It's no fun:-(. The only bonus is it's a little easier to bounce back body-wise with cheese out of the equation! Can't wait to hear about your adventures in France. We are planning our first international trip with the boys for next year--Spain, since they both attend a full language immersion school and are pretty much fluent (I'm not, though!). The logistics of travel outside the US makes me a little nervous!

The Mommy & Aria trip sounds fun!! Just a caution with those mini fridges...I had pumped some at CBR over our Thanksgiving trip and stuck it in the back of the fridge thinking that would be the best place...and it froze!! So just be mindful of how the temp is set if there is a fridge in the room (not sure at SoG?) since you are specifically not wanting to freeze!

Speaking of France - Andrew came down last night after putting Aria to bed and he said I have ruined Aria. Apparently he asked her what she wanted to do this weekend and she said "Go to Disney world!" and he said no, we are not going there this weekend, what else would you like to do "How about fly to France?" LOL! So he said we are not doing that either, and she said "Well, why don't we go to Italy". :rotfl2::rotfl2: He was of course talking about you know, playing a game in the basement or whatever lol.
:lmao: That is hysterical! I guess it's a sign you're raising her right? :confused3 I think she and Izzy would agree on weekend plans. :goodvibes

I just shortened the trip by 1 day in a very non-DIS fashion. That was after I finally made the executive decision that Maya will be staying home. I'll need to pump milk for her and 5 days is max refrigeration time, thus I didn't want to be gone longer than that and have to deal with frozen milk and transporting it (I'll still have to transport refrigerated but I think I can figure that out - I did that on our most recent trip as well). Also that's about the excess milk I have right now - about 150 ounces or 5 days worth. Unfortunately all the milk I pumped from the first 2 months (about 200 oz or so) we can't use because it's not dairy/soy free, but I'm keeping it in hopes she outgrows the allergies!
Such a bummer that you can't use all that milk. Hopefully someday. It's been a long time since I've thought about milk storage guidelines, but I'm thinking if some were to get frozen during your trip (like Khertz mentions), it would thaw on your travels back, but you might still be able to send it to daycare the next day or something? I might be totally wrong on that, but I thought there was a window of some sort? :confused3

This is a SURPRISE trip - first time I've actually done that. Aria has no idea! I haven't really given too much thought into how to surprise her, My plan is to have everything packed and in the car ready to go though so that morning when I wake her up at 2:30AM I can tell her.
Maybe when you put her to bed that night you can ask what she wants to do the next day. ;) Hopefully she'd say Disney World and not France. :rotfl: Tell her you'll think about it. Then, wake her up at 2:30am, saying you thought about it and decided YES! :cheer2: :rotfl2:(She might think this will work on other occasions, though. :scratchin)

Also pretty up in the air right now with not really knowing about the Frozen ride, soarin, or Rivers of Light.
I'm interested to see if the new things are up and running!

The rule on the internets seems to be 24 hours once it's thawed, so that is what I have been using as my guideline as well. It could work as long as all of it didn't freeze! If some did and thawed on the way home, just use it first when you get home maybe? In October I actually ended up pumping a few times & dumping because I didn't want to deal with transporting cold or frozen milk on the plane. It was a stab in the heart every time I poured that milk down the drain!! But I also had a large freezer stash at home so my situation was quite different. I hope for you @Imagineer5 that it all works out perfectly to get the milk home to Maya!!

That is awesome that they choose the solo trips too, how fun!! Yes I can see that being even more fun as the girls get older having that fun time with Daddy too. Right now I'm not sure how Andrew will handle Maya since I do drop off, pick up, make dinner etc all before he is home lol. (He has a REALLY long commute so starts earlier and gets home later). But I told him he will have to figure it out, it's only 3 days of work that he'll have to do drop off/pick up. I would bet money he will ask his mom to come help but I hope that he doesn't.

Ah thank you for the warning!! I just wrote down a note to myself to check that and watch it.

Yes I would definitely do that even if it meant pumping the first full day home all the time, but hopefully that doesn't happen! I'll just try to keep it from freezing so I can freeze it when I get home lol. I do hope the original ounces of milk can get used, at least they are in a deep freezer so I have a number of months before I have to worry about those going bad.

That is a really cute idea!! If she doesn't say Disney then no harm no foul, but if she does that'd be so cute. Although, yes that could get really bad if she then starts to expect it hahaha.

Ahhh that's too bad!! I had packed a soft sided cooler and two ice packs, so I transported the extra milk home with us in a suitcase lol. Yes let's hope nothing happens to that milk though, 5 days' worth would be a terrible amount to lose.

Ready to start my May 2015 TR!!

This trip spawned from a few days with Lynda and Aria to 11 nights with Aria, 8 of which were with Lynda and Aron. Our plans included:

2 nights in a studio at Boardwalk Villas (first time staying there!)

7 nights in a 2-bedroom at Bonnet Creek resort

2 nights at Universal's Cabana Bay resort

I was 11 weeks pregnant during the trip and overall feeling okay, and our dates were May 8-19.

Our day started bright and early - Andrew brought us to the airport and I had packed snacks for breakfast. Our flight was our usual 6:35AM (which has changed to 5:35am from now on for some crazy reason) and I had TSA pre-check so it was very smooth getting to our gate. Plus the Providence airport is tiny and easy to maneuver. We got to our gate and spent some time eating the treats while I packed up the stroller bag.

Here's all the stuff I had to carry down the tarmac. Stroller bag weighs about 35 lbs. I think our next trip I'll just check the car seat since she won't need to nap on the way there or back (due to flight times) and thus one less thing to carry to the plane.

Aria excited for the flight!! We waited for family boarding between A&B which is never an issue. It's for families with kids under 4, so we slid right in there having Maya so we have another 4 years of family boarding LOL...

It was an uneventful flight. Aria is a great traveler plus the flight is only about 2.5 hours. I think I looked at the Southwest magazine, listened to my Audible book and Aria watched a couple movies. We arrived early and got right on the monorail. Aria loves this ride

11391559_10100328538827701_5351833105101719671_n.jpg

We had a mid-size SUV booked from Alamo after I found an awesome deal, and even better we were able to just walk to the aisle, pick one out and leave. Soon we were seeing this lovely sight!

And yes I took this photo while driving.

11392973_10100328538832691_8874300508638406938_n.jpg

We had some issues once arriving at the Boardwalk though. Our room was ready and I chose to tote all my luggage, stroller, etc by myself up to the room, only to find the magic bands wouldn't open the door. So I had to go back down with everything and it took them a good 15 minutes before they were working. Some parts of traveling as a solo adult can be a pain but luckily they DID work on our second try, phew! In our room I didn't really do much unpacking since we were only here 2 nights.

Pics of the room:

Nice area by the door (would work for a crib, but nice for stroller parking too)

Really nice view of the pool area!

Our first stop was the POOL of course! It was nearing lunchtime so I planned to get lunch right at the pool. It was pretty empty.

1560390_10100328539172011_7896619360280550889_n.jpg

We attempted the slide. I went down it first and then Aria was to follow...but she never came down. I had to go get her and she refused to go down. Drives me crazy bc I know she would have loved it!!! (especially considering how much fun she had at Blizzard Beach later in the week!!).

11412267_10100328539196961_9056946192435772071_n.jpg

I should have just taken her down with me once and gotten in trouble, then at least she would know what to expect. But we did have fun swimming anyway.

11391647_10100328539211931_8552604710958602322_n.jpg

One note though - the water was SO SO COLD! The temp outside was 90, so maybe it made the water feel cold? IDK but it was uncomfortably cold for me. Then again I like bathwater lol.

Soon we were ready for lunch. They had a kids ham sandwich which came with applesauce and carrots.

11401044_10100328539231891_812311809823964121_n.jpg

And I got a caprese sandwich which was DELICIOUS (and looks amazing to me now as I drool over mozzarella lol).

11246980_10100328539256841_6008090744040597127_n.jpg

BTW my magic band did not work for charging...ugh! But I didn't bother fixing it since we were only there a little while.

We did a little more swimming

11412365_10100328539296761_8212288908872064375_n.jpg

Then found a kiddie pool with wonderfully warm water

11391498_10100328539371611_3100406212870599884_n.jpg

Aria ended up making friends with a little boy and they swam around the pool for a while so I just sat back and enjoyed the temperature.

After a little while we headed back to the room, took a quick shower and I put Aria down for a nap in the stroller (she prefers to nap there and its nice not to have to tiptoe around the room!). I think I actually napped during the time too, but not until I read up on some resort benefits and saw I could rent some movies and games for free (since we were staying on DVC points). I decided to do that later on.

Around 3 Aria woke up. I hadn't done any unpacking but I did have a little gift for Aria to give her.

11402734_10100328538837681_7064614308948328590_n.jpg

A pressed penny book! We hadn't really made it a point to do pressed pennies before (although we had done a few of them) and so I thought it'd be fun to do this trip. There were also two rolls of quarters and pennies in the bag.

Then we headed out to the Boardwalk! Actually our destination was mini golf!! This was Aria's first time mini golfing and I wanted to take advantage of the fun non-park things to do around the Boardwalk during these first couple of days.

On our way-

10428016_10100328538897561_8565218654493754313_n.jpg

She picked pink of course!

10931039_10100328538907541_4322211734122852043_n.jpg

Yes I was there too lol

11406883_10100328538947461_468940061139050263_n.jpg

We needed to work on her form. I did notice that (later in the week we realized) compared to Winter Summerland, these holes were a bit harder. Lots of uphill hits requiring some strength. Aria got frustrated easily.

11392993_10100328539002351_6519550448893841392_n.jpg

11350484_10100328539666021_8372229615709226586_n.jpg

Fantasia Gardens was cute and it was a fun outing.

11400998_10100328539661031_4768188748641967781_n.jpg

From there we stopped for a mini dinner. Aria got a hot dog and I got tater tots (there wasn't really anything else on the menu that looked good, although who am I kidding, I love tater tots).

I also got a frozen lemonade thing and Aria had fun taking photos with my phone.

10494615_10100328539027301_2543810583434877657_n.jpg

And Aria enjoyed some ice cream

11392815_10100328539725901_3404380930704231534_n.jpg

Then we headed to the playground at Aria's request that we'd seen from the pool.

11391243_10100328539770811_7908882038170809880_n.jpg

I'm surprised there aren't more playgrounds. I don't think there is one at the Beach Club, Bay Lake/Contemporary, Poly OR GF? I know there was one at Wilderness Lodge & fort wilderness. It's simple fun but something to do when the weather isn't great for swimming, so I do wish there were more of them.

11330002_10100328539805741_301123112477721955_n.jpg

First pressed pennies of the trip!!

No more photos of this evening but we ended up renting two movies and two games (I know Frozen Trouble was one of them). We spent the evening playing the games and watching movies - it was perfect! I definitely had less energy being pregnant so to start the vacation this way was just wonderful.

Great start to the trip!!

I just packed that MJ hot air balloon top for our trip :-) So cute!

The sandwich looks really delicious! And, I totally agree with you about playgrounds -- it is surprising!

What a fun, relaxing first day. I love that there is SO much to do outside the parks, too. We have yet to mini-golf--it looks like fun (but kinda hard!) interested to hear your final thoughts on the BWI-- that's the one a Epcot area resort we haven't tried.

sounds like a fun quick trip with Aria - and that will be fun to surprise her with it!

Interesting reading about how you are booking the meals based on allergy options for you. I guess you always think that Disney is good about having options, but until you actually have to schedule things you don't think about what are the best options (that is, just because they have something you can eat, doesn't mean it will be great/interesting vs other options)

I'm hearing April 18th for opening or River of Light so that should be open by the time you go - though FP and dining package details not known yet (other than it appears Tusker House will have something, like you noted)

Only other thing at DHS would be the new Star Wars stuff (new stage show starting April 4th and perhaps new fireworks starting after April 30th) - but if that isn't priority for you probably not a big reason to go there

Enjoying your trip report! Loved hearing about the cruise - that is on our wish list! Also excited to hear about Disneyland Paris as we are aiming for a trip there next year. We will be in Epcot on the 29th as well! We are hoping we might luck out on a soft opening of the Frozen ride, but I don't have my heart set on it. We should try for a quick Dismeet. I know Luke would love Aria.

Great start to May! It's great what kind of fun you can find when you're doing out-of-the-parks activities. We loved doing bowling in October, but I think next time we might try some mini-golf!

Here's all the stuff I had to carry down the tarmac. Stroller bag weighs about 35 lbs.
I don't know how you do it - I think our stroller weighs about half that and it's enough for me!

It's for families with kids under 4, so we slid right in there having Maya so we have another 4 years of family boarding LOL...
Well, maybe not on your next trip, if Maya's staying home...

We had some issues once arriving at the Boardwalk though. Ugh, that's so much more of a pain when you are solo (with a kid) vs. on a family/couple trip. We had the same problem, but at Beach Club. However, Dug refused to trek back, so he called and they came to us...but we were sitting in the hall forever. Glad it eventually worked for you.

We attempted the slide. I went down it first and then Aria was to follow...but she never came down. I had to go get her and she refused to go down. Drives me crazy bc I know she would have loved it!!! (especially considering how much fun she had at Blizzard Beach later in the week!!).
I bet she would have loved it. Izzy has become waterslide-obsessed lately. Thinking of maybe stopping at Wisconsin Dells for a night next time I go out that direction to see my grandma (pretty much all the hotels have waterslides/waterparks).

Glad you got some pool time there. I can't believe we spent 7 nights there and never once got to the pool. Oops.

I just love this picture of Aria! She looks like such a big girl. (And Izzy would pick pink too, so good choice!)

We needed to work on her form. I did notice that (later in the week we realized) compared to Winter Summerland, these holes were a bit harder. Lots of uphill hits requiring some strength. Aria got frustrated easily.
Yeah, now that you say that, I remember this course being more frustrating with those uphill greens. Plus I like Winter Summerland's theming better. I have yet to take Izzy mini golfing, but I definitely want to - I have many fond memories of my dad taking us mini golfing as kids and hope to enjoy that with her as she grows up.

I agree - seems like there should be more playgrounds around. I know there is one at Pop Century - we never had time to get on it, as we were always running to and from the "real" parks, but it looked fun.

Sounds like a really nice travel and arrival day. Relaxing and just the right pace to start the big trip.

I love that top, its so comfy! I need to size up I think, Aria is getting so tall.

Mini golfing is so fun now that Aria is a bit older. This was our first stay at BWI. I liked the location with all the restaurants nearby and DHS slightly closer vs. BCV, but I do love BCV much more.

Yeah I didn't really change any of my ADR's before the trip once I found out about the allergy, but after going to some of them I definitely needed to nix them. I really am surprised at the LACK of options, and I only have two allergies. Granted I like flavor and good food, and am not happy with a burger/hot dog/chicken nuggets/plain chicken breast so that doesn't really help things. Signature restaurants are the way to go with allergies though, as the chefs really seem to care about the taste of their food.

Good to know about Rivers of Light, thanks!! That's definitely a priority and I'd love to do a meal with reserved seating but if I can't it'll be okay. Maybe the new Star Wars themed fireworks would be fun one evening, but we still haven't seen anything past the 1st movie lol....need to get on that!

Thank you!! The cruise was REALLY awesome, we still talk about that trip as one of our best. Oh that'd be awesome!!

And congratulations on baby Maya! She is beautiful!

Thank you!!

Great start to May! It's great what kind of fun you can find when you're doing out-of-the-parks activities. We loved doing bowling in October, but I think next time we might try some mini-golf!

We talked about bowling this last trip but never got there, unfortunately. It's fun they have that though! We did bowl later in this May trip at Cabana Bay :)

I don't know how you do it - I think our stroller weighs about half that and it's enough for me!

Well, maybe not on your next trip, if Maya's staying home...

Ugh, that's so much more of a pain when you are solo (with a kid) vs. on a family/couple trip. We had the same problem, but at Beach Club. However, Dug refused to trek back, so he called and they came to us...but we were sitting in the hall forever. Glad it eventually worked for you.

Ooooh I hadn't even thought about not being able to use family boarding. Maybe they'll let me after seeing my huge stroller I have to deal with lol although last time I actually got A-boarding for me (but B boarding for Andrew so we just went together during the family boarding time).

Yeah winter summerland is way more fun. In Feb despite staying at the beach club, we went to winter summerland instead of walking to fantasia gardens.

Day 2! Our plans for the day included Cape May's character breakfast, time at the Boardwalk, and Trattoria al Forno for dinner. Everything else was up in the air.

Since I am used to wake up around 5AM for work, having an 8AM breakfast is easy for me (however apparently Andrew and his parents have a hard time with this on vacation lol). Aria and I were up before 7 and leisurely walked on over to Cape May.

Soon we were seated, ordered drinks and went up for food.

Donald came over first

Then Minnie who is still Aria's favorite

My plate (sad face, I couldn't eat this in Feb lol, but this was so good. Especially the bananas foster French toast)

Goofy came over next - interaction with him is always awesome here

This is a restaurant that generally we get 2 times per character, so Donald was back again LOL but Aria didn't get out of her seat this time hahaha

And Goofy was back to be silly

Soon after we left. Bellies full my plan was to spend the morning at the Boardwalk - I really wanted to rent a Sea Raycer. The other fun Boardwalk thing is the Surrey but I thought that was a bit too much work for me. I usually let Andrew do most of the pedaling when we rent them hahahaha. Well it turns out the boat rentals didn't start until 11 or 12?! So we changed up the plans and Aria wanted to go mini golfing again...so we did!!

First a quick look at the Boardwalk lobby

Then we went to the room for a minute and grabbed what I needed, then headed to the car. I decided to check out Winter Summerland today! It opened at 10 and I think we got there right as it opened up.

Summertime was the perfect time for the Winter side (spoiler alert, in February, we did the SUmmer side!)

11148349_10100328541527291_1725872928323772865_n.jpg

We had SO much fun here, it was a lot easier so Aria wasn't getting frustrated and was actually doing a pretty good job!

11391145_10100328540474401_710218224541218252_n.jpg

I think we found some balls in the grass

continued in next post!

Once our round of golf was complete (note- we saved 25% by bringing our receipt from Fantasia Gardens from the day before, but that was the same as the Annual Pass discount so it was sort of a moot point) we headed back to the resort. Aria wanted to go swimming so that was next on the agenda!

11351365_10100328540604141_3245107721089243704_n.jpg

The water was so stinking COLD again!

11401535_10100328540629091_327907039891025450_n.jpg

We quickly hightailed it to the kiddie pool again since that water is warm. Aria took my photo

11406411_10100328540693961_4872791663864920299_n.jpg

And today there were a few other kids in the pool again so Aria had fun with them although she Is so shy she mainly played along side them. She comes out of her shell when others instigate playing but otherwise she is a bit too nervous to do it.

Since I don't know the meaning of relaxation, after some quick showers we fit in a Sea Raycer rental before nap time lol. For lunch we just had snacks I had brought with us since we'd had a big breakfast, so we ate those on our walk back to the YC/BC.

Aria had fun taking photos with the underwater camera

After our fun on the Sea Raycer it was definitely nap time, so I laid back her stroller seat and she fell asleep on the walk back to the room. I had an idea for what I wanted to do next...what do you think it is?!?

Since I don't know the meaning of relaxation
:lmao: This made me laugh! I get it, though. Dug and I were just discussing the other day that "relaxing on a beach" is only acceptable (to us) as an activity within an agenda - like "from 2-3pm, we'll enjoy the beach"...but not all day or days on end. :rotfl:

I had an idea for what I wanted to do next...what do you think it is?!?
Normally I'd say it would involve wine, but since you were pregnant, I'm baffled. :confused3

Looks like a good breakfast (as usual) at Cape May.

Love the Winter Summerland mini golf. So fun to look at all the details there.

The Sea Raycer looks like fun. Never tried one of those.

Looking forward to whatever is happening next. :hyper:
