Canadian Buffoon's Solo Disney Vacation - Update 07/08! pp99 - Here today gone tomorrow

Deadwood might be cheaper in the fall. They have that motorcycle thing near there in the Summer. Sturgis. I have lots of fond road trip memories from childhood from that part of the States.

Hope your plans with Kay come out okay.

A few of you
(and you know who you are)
have been asking me when my next trip is going to be.

Hey, when is your next trip going to be?:confused3

I have semi-smart readers.

And you have me!:thumbsup2

Some of you
(and I don't know who you are)
already know that I've gone to Toronto
(and am planning a mini TR on it...
after some gentle requests and mild arm bending.)

Uh...sure. I knew that.:rolleyes1

Well now I know!

Ruby got word a few days ago that due to budget constraints...
all international travel has been suspended.

Bye, bye Vegas!

Son of a...:headache:

I did a bit of snooping around and....
Who knew Deadwood hotels would be that expensive???
Who do they think they are? Disney?

There's a Comfort Inn at $250/night.
Everything else that's still available is $300 - $400+!

:eek::faint:

Lots of other stuff to see and do in the area.
There's Deadwood itself, of course.
Needles highway.
The aforementioned Mt. Rushmore.
Badlands Nat'l Park.
Black Hills Nat'l Forest.
And a whole slew of other touristy type stuff.
(Reptile Gardens! Crystal Caves! Oh my!)

So that's what the next trip is going to be!

Excellent! We are giving strong consideration to the Black Hills for next summer, so I will be looking forward to the TR!

Also Wind Cave, Jewel Cave...Devil's Tower (in Wyoming) is only 2 hours away. If you liked Close Encounters, you have to go there.

And I just have to say it...no trip to this area is complete without a stop at Wall Drug (one of America's premier tourist traps).

So for those of you asking when the next trip is...

Now you know!

Um...when is it? September?:confused3

So it looks like I'm probably going to take Kay to Disneyworld in August, too.

ETA
Not looking so good for Disney after all.
Tickets are gone for a lot of flights already. Still looking, tho.

D'oh! How much is a taxi?

How far are you from the border and a US airport? Is that an option at all - ie: drive to the closest US city and fly from there? Sometimes that can work out cheaper?

A few of you
(and you know who you are)
have been asking me when my next trip is going to be.

So I booked us into a nice room at the Country Inn and Suites in Rapid City.
Rapid City is about 45 minutes away from Deadwood.
But it's closer to Mt. Rushmore.
I've been once... when I was about 8? 10? years old.
Ruby's never been.

Sounds fun! Mount Rushmore is the only thing I really know on that list, I would love to go one day. Take photos for us please!
As for the other stuff, visiting national parks/forests, crystal caves and REPTILE GARDENS... FUN. Sounds like a great plan.

Oh booo. Have you checked the end of September? Maybe I'd spot you sashaying. :thumbsup2

Don't give up...maybe something will open up. What is you changed dates? Can you go on a school break for a long weekend?

Dates are pretty set with work... at least for August.
She doesn't want to miss any school, so that's out (What kid doesn't want to miss school???)
Maybe spring break... Dunno.
She wasn't crazy about the idea, since last spring break she had tons of homework.
Which is incredibly stupid if you ask me.
It's a spring break... for everyone. Not just the teachers.

I think there are many agencies that could learn a thing or three from Disney when it comes to security meassures.

::yes::

Might want to include some countries on that list.

Not hardly…
People just really can be that selfish.
Or completely unaware of the existence of others.
It’s one of those two things.

True... unfortunately.

Cool!
How many points do I get for that?

Not as many as you'd think.

Anyway… The first coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (John McKay) had a truly woeful team and no patience with reporters. He was asked at a press conference after yet another humiliating loss what they’re “game plan” was; McKay answered that the “game plan” was obviously to “stumble, fumble and throw incomplete passes” you moron.

That line has just stuck with me all these years.
I just couldn’t stop it from making its way out of my busted mind.

I don't really follow NFL that much... only sport I really follow is Indy.
(although a lot of Canadians do follow it)
But I will watch a game if I happen to be in front of the TV at the right time.
And definitely I'll watch the Superbowl.

There is always room for emergency Mickey Bars.

Wanna guess how many I've eaten?

I'll give you a hint. If you guess any more than zero, you're wrong.

I don’t see you getting very near my current location any time soon,
so – no – not really a problem at the moment.

Are you sure? I've been known to hop in the car and drive ridiculous distances.

Semi Smart?
So we’re about at smart as Mack here them?

1169_pixar_cars_tour_mack.jpg

Well… it’s a little known fact that most of us could consider that an upgrade in status.

Little known semi facts?

The term "Semi" comes from the trailer. Since it has no front wheels, it's known as a semi-trailer.
The rest just followed.

One third of all (almost 2 million) semis in the U.S. are registered to California, Florida and Texas.
There are 3.2 million semi truck drivers in the U.S.

On average, semi trucks drive about 140 billion miles a year in the U.S.
68% of all goods in the U.S. are delivered by semi truck.
That works out to about 60,000 pounds per American every year.

A semi's engine weighs more than a Mini Cooper.

Hey... you're just using the same actor’s voice over and over throughout this TR.
What kind of cut-rate production is this?

Ha! Fooled you!
I've used twenty three different voice actors.
But I got them all to imitate each other.

Humph… I know who I am.
I’m… I’m… I’mmmmmm…

What were we talking about?

Squirrels.

Oh yeah, that’s it…
We were talking about folks who are only about as smart as sack of truck parts that purposely read your TR.

Now, who are they again?

Go into your washroom, look out the window that's above the sink.
You'll probably see one of them.

Stupid auto correct.

The one time I don't proof read an update.
"It's so short. I'm sure it's fine."

:sad2:

Ah… dang!
Well if it would make you feel any better you could take the amount of cash that you figure you’d have lost in the casino, buy an equivalent money-order with it and then just mail that to me.

Hey! Great idea!

You get the same feeling of monetary loss and I get and an extra tuition payment.
It’s a win, win.

Sounds good.
Let me know when you get the cheque.
I mailed it to GoofyIsAsGoofyDoes, C/O South Carolina.

That should work, right?

Sould’a bet on 00

Sure. Now you tell me.

Ze home of ze Burglar of Banff-ff-ff.
(oh dear lord… now why do I remember that obscure line?)

Had to look that one up.
I've never seen F Troop so.... that'd be why I didn't know it.

Hummmm… That could be interesting.
That’s a part of the continent that I’ve certainly never been near.

I’m with Ruby; never been.
And it’s actually in my own country.

Our Countries are so large that there's just no way
(well... it's very unlikely)
to see it all.

If you were from Monaco or Liechtenstein, that'd be different.

OK… I’ll be adding some of these to my list of placed I really ought’a get my sorry butt over to.
A TR on the subject will really make me feel bad about it, so I’m looking forward to that.

Hadn't really planned on it... but... :confused3

Planning to come on down to the Carolinas then?

Is that an invite?

Keep searching.
Either that or mail me the tickets along with those predicted Vegas losses and I’ll use that to take a trip up to Deadwood myself.

I did. They should be there any day now.
Just keep watching for it.

I wouldn't mind seeing Sturgis...
and I'd hate to be in Sturgis....

I can't even imagine how bad it would be with the crowds.

Hey, when is your next trip going to be?:confused3

Your guess is as good as mine!

And you have me!:thumbsup2

Yes. That's true.
Someone has to fill in the low end of the curve.

Excellent! We are giving strong consideration to the Black Hills for next summer, so I will be looking forward to the TR!

Uh.... guess I'm doing a TR on it.

I know! One of my favourite (and my only one for a long time) movies!
I'm hoping to talk Ruby into going for a drive over there.
But I'll let her call the shots.

My job is to do all the research, show her the results and then let her decide what's going to happen.

And I just have to say it...no trip to this area is complete without a stop at Wall Drug (one of America's premier tourist traps).

I was wondering about that.
I remember seeing... oh about a million bumper stickers for it.

Um...when is it? September?:confused3

August.

D'oh! How much is a taxi?

Probably less.
Seriously.

How far are you from the border and a US airport? Is that an option at all - ie: drive to the closest US city and fly from there? Sometimes that can work out cheaper?

Technically it is an option... and a good one.
But there are other considerations.

If I was looking for the best deal for two people, crossing the border is the best bet.
I would have to rent a car from Sanford airport, though.
Haven't looked into if Mears serves it or how much a cab would be.

But... it's still more expensive than anything I find with my Westjet dollars and $99 companion flight.

No cats, that would be too complicated. DH can watch them while we're gone.

Good. Because while I'm sure your DH is okay with you running off with another man,
the cats would be jealous.

How about one ticket from Winnipeg and one from Cleveland? See, it's fate!

:rolleyes1

Sounds fun! Mount Rushmore is the only thing I really know on that list, I would love to go one day. Take photos for us please!

Apparently I'm writing a TR on it.
You nice people keep telling me you want to read (and in your case, see too) all about it.

As for the other stuff, visiting national parks/forests, crystal caves and REPTILE GARDENS... FUN. Sounds like a great plan.

We'll see how much of it actually happens.
That part's up to Ruby.

I do the research, she does the pickin'.

Oh booo. Have you checked the end of September? Maybe I'd spot you sashaying. :thumbsup2

Oh booo is right! It would be fun to meet you guys.
I'd run up to you guys and give you big hugs!
And Jamie would be "Who the &^%#* is this guy!"

NO!

Better yet!
We set up a meet and don't tell Jamie.
Then I run up to you, give you a hug and ask you to run away with me.
You agree and tell Jamie that you've always wanted a sugar daddy,
even if he is twice your age.

But you already got caught 25 to life remember ::yes::

:goodvibes

Yep.

Still, it's always a blow to the ego when a woman says "You remind me of my Dad!"
or... True Story.

I was volunteering at my daughter's dance recital.
She's old enough that she's actually run some of the classes for the little ones and they remember her.
I went up to Elle while she was doing her own volunteering with a bunch of little ones and gave her a hug.
One of the littles (probably around 4 or 5 years old) said. "Who's that?"
Elle replies. "That's my dad."
The little girl thinks about it and says. "Are you sure he wasn't your grandfather?"

<sigh>

And then people wonder why I bought a motorcycle.
Full blown mid-life crisis!!!!

But in this case.
I gave her choices.
Valley Fair or Cedar Point?
"Valley Fair"
Valley Fair or Chicago?
"Valley Fair"
Valley Fair or Disney World?
"Valley Fair"

Uh.... what?
YOu gotta love when the kiddos throw the curve balls.

I unfortunately updated my real life update....

I'm only doing Disney if I can do it without going broke.

Well.... more broke.

So far I'm having trouble with flights.
But still looking.
Well Boo! Hope you find a solution!

Glad to see this is still going. Now to go figure out what was the last chapter I read. Think it was you sacrificed yourself to the sharks but you didn't look appetizing to them.

Off to read now.

YOu gotta love when the kiddos throw the curve balls.

 You sound like you have experience in this area!

:lmao:

Well Boo! Hope you find a solution!

Don't think so.

But I'm okay with it in a strange kind of way.
It would've been pretty rushed and I prefer a bit more lead time to plan things out a bit...
and make FP+ choices and ADRs on time.

What's tough is Kay's disappointment.
She keeps asking me, "Dad? Did you check the flights today?"

Breaks my heart.

Glad to see this is still going. Now to go figure out what was the last chapter I read. Think it was you sacrificed yourself to the sharks but you didn't look appetizing to them.

Off to read now.

Hmmm... The name sounds familiar....
Oh! Now I remember.
You're that guy who's married to that cute lady.
(How is she... skip that... how are you both??)

Happy reading!
