Has anyone decorated their Magic Bands? Please show us the pictures!

anyone printed design at home on vinyl or plain sticker paper with their printer? I am thinking on doing this and then putting packing tape over the top of design before I cut it to weatherproof the ink. Whatcha think? Thanks!!! I Just need dimensions of the band (kids and adult)since we don't have ours for awhile... and size of mickey head to account for.

I can't draw to save my life, but I'm a graphic designer and a wizard on the computer. My husband and I are going to DW in Feb, our first trip since MagicBands came out, and I'd love to customize our MBs! I'm thinking maybe I could get water slide tattoo paper and print our designs on that. Anyone have any suggestions for the best place to get some, or any other thoughts on how to get my ideas from my computer to the Magic Bands? Thanks!

Also, any thoughts on how to get the design just on the colored area of the MB?

(Here's the design I'm working on for myself; my husband wants one with the classic EPCOT symbols.)

I absolutely LOVE this - between being a big fan of Disney and Mary Blair's work, I'm also a quilter... screams cool quilt to me too! :) Have you figured out how to get this on your Magic Band?

red
orange

There are two ways that come to my mind... I've been using decals from MyFantasyBands to decorate mine and they come on vinyl decals. Maybe someone in the area could print it up on vinyl for you?

Second option I could have sworn I saw somewhere in this thread that someone found a website that lets you upload your own images that they then print and send your way for decals. You would have to search the thread though. I can't remember what that is.

For those who have used the self adhesive gems directly on the Mickey Head in the center of the magic band do they interfere with the chip? Was there any issue with getting into your room, the parks, fastpasses or using it to pay for your purchases?

It causes no interference. I actually find the band easier to use with something more substantial to line up with the reader and have had next to no times when I had to try again which wasn't true when I use a band without a gem. :goodvibes

Awesome, thank you!! Here are the pictures of what I have done and I was hoping it would work.

Very cute and those decorations will cause no problems. One question - did you apply them with the bands hooked like they will be on your wrist? Just asking because of the way they are when you took the pictures.

Thank you! I did put it on and marked the last hole where the band hooks together. I have a really small wrist so that is why the gems go so far down the band.

Did you use any nailpolish basecoat under or over the tops of those gems? How did they hold up in the park as you made it? Also, were those gems from a craft type store, or nail manicure type gems? thanks!

Thank you so much, everyone who's contributed to this thread! I fly out in 2 days:woohoo: and leave for pre-early-morning-flight-hotel tomorrow night! :dance3:
I had some trouble getting my bands because the name I go by and have in MDE (middle name) was not the same as the name on the reservation (first, for DVC/legal reasons), but I called IT and got it sorted out.
The bands arrived last week, and the decorations went on easily:

The gray one is mine.

Lion King is one of my favorite movies, and we're staying at AKL. The tree/seed is a specific reference to a Magical Moment I had in AK some years back. The inside of the center Mickey head and the Simba outline are glow-in-the-dark (couldn't figure out how to photograph that), as well as glowing fireworks-type patterns in the tree.

The blue one is for my BFF:

He's never been to WDW. When I asked him what his favorite Disney/Marvel/Henson character was, he said the Martians form Sesame Street (the ones that go "yep, yep, yep, nope, nope, nope"), so that's what he got. The outline of the main mickey head is glow paint. I kept going back and forth about whether to glow the Martian, too, and eventually decided not to, because I couldn't decide how best to do it.

The Simba outline was done using a variation on the "Plastic Bag Method" talked about earlier in the thread, where I put down a few layers of nail polish base on a plastic bag, traced/painted the art on it in acrylic, then peeled it up and stuck it to the band with more polish. All the other art was painted directly on the band with acrylics, but the base and top coats are nail polish (gloss for his, matte for mine, except the tree leaves are gloss).
If I remember, I'll report back on how they held up.

Thanks again everyone!

Has anyone used carbon tracing paper to trace on a design before using nail polish or acrylic paint? Just wondering if it will work on the material the band is.

I feel sure it would work, as I sketched on mine with pencil first. I remember that stuff being pretty smudgy, but it's erasable, and you can always alcohol wipe it and start fresh. Great idea, I might add; I never even thought of it! I did sketch mine on the template first (well, on one I drew)...could've saved myself a step if I'd thought of that. Good luck!!

I did use clear nail polish under the smaller gems. I haven't used it in the parks yet as we don't leave until Sunday, but I will update how they held up when I get back. I actually got the gems at Walmart in the scrapbooking section.

I tried it and it transferred everywhere it touched the band, so it was a huge mess. The white tracing paper works much better, but the transfer is very faint.

Thanks for the reply - I will give white tracing paper a try and maybe go over it again in pencil after. I just don't trust myself to free hand a design.

Any suggestions on cleaning up a mistake made with black nail polish? My son wanted these little swirly designs from stencils, and the one right next to the mickey head smudged. I tried to clean it up and now it is a big mess. Is there a trick to removing the black polish? or maybe I need to paint over it with red, but will this create even more mess, and will I need to paint the whole thing red? I might end up having to just make a bigger design over it, but would love to be able to fix it if you guys have any tips!
