7 days to go and personally I would rather be at Disney/BC in a hurricane then working and dealing with customers. In 6 days, I will be customer free for 10 days. (can you tell I'm in retail). I do have a question for those who have traveled recently, what do you do with your magic bands? Do you wear them on the plane or are they in your carryon? My 11 dd is worried they will get deactivated if I leave them in the carryon when they go thru scanner at security.

Just hope what is brewing in the Atlantic does not turn into a hurricane next week!

The way things are going in my world, it is certain to be a full blown catastrophe.

This has been the worst year! I am out of town on business which makes it hard enough to get ready for this trip but then this morning I get three emails. The first--a coworker of mine for 22 years (and someone I used to date in my younger years) passed away from pancreatic cancer. I visited him in Friday. I am heart broken. The second--another co-worker had a heart attack. The third--another co-worker had a stroke.

Between all this, losing my Mother 2 1/3 months ago and totally our car, it's been one of the craziest years I've ever had. Not to mention one of the most stressful years I've ever had at work.

I will go ahead and apologize for anything that happens next week at WDW because with this dark cloud that's following me around, I am sure it will be my fault!!

Scott and everyone else---safe travels. Hopefully, I'll be there around 10 am Saturday.

Put them in your carry on... the scanner will not affect them at all! Have fun and safe travels!

Am I missing something? What hurricane? I have been tracking the NOAA site and I don't see anything in the 5 day forecast. We are leaving for WDW in 3 days, so now I'm freaking out a little.

After seeing the first post about the hurricane, I also freaked, so I checked the weather channel and also so nothing. Either way we'll be at Disney and like they all say even a rainy/hurricane day Disney is better than no Disney at all!!! Have a great trip and Nannette thank you for your quick response, I'll let sleeping beauty know as soon as she gets up.

It sounds like what you need is a trip to Disney!

So sorry that you have been going through so much; I understand a little how things sometimes build up, and you wonder how much more can happen at one time. I've learned that we are all much stronger than we know, and it's sometimes only when we are put to the test, that we realize our true inner strength.

My mom passed away a number of years ago from pancreatic cancer. It's a terrible disease, as it usually strikes in the prime of life. The odds of fighting it are the worst among cancers.

I always tell friends and family that the little dark cloud will soon move on. There are never those little dark clouds at Disney, especially in the next few weeks. I wish you a magical time!

I am so sorry to hear about everything you have been going through! I am so glad you are coming to the meet so we can all exchange much-needed hugs and share some Disney magic.

Dee- I'm at YC SV, not BC GV. Thanks.

Of course you are!

Face palm smilie!

What do you all do on your arrival day? We will be arriving at Yacht Club on Wednesday, September 24th. We live about an hour and a half from Orlando, so when we get there is all up to us (and traffic, of course). We plan on getting there around 1PM, at the latest. Do you guys explore the hotel, the pool, surrounding area, or what? We aren't looking to do a park that day, if we do, it will only be for the fireworks.

I'm sorry you're having such a rough time  Hoping Disney can work it's magic and that, along with meeting up with some great friends, will ease your troubles and soothe your soul :goodvibes

Ninja Mom's (un)timely packing list!!

Some of us (half the hotel apparently) are in need of some timely packing tips and Ninja Mom is here to help!

Are you taking your phone charger??

It's surprising how many people forget this handy dandy item. if you are 'forgetfully' challenged and you have your phone charging the night before you leave, rubber band the charger cord to your phone. The next morning when you are running around like a chicken without a head trying to leave, you will grab your phone and see that rubber banded cord and think oh yeah I have to take the cord! Remember that this won't work if you use the phone first thing and forget to grab that cord right away so the first time you touch the phone means you unplug the cord and take it immediately.

Take a POWER STRIP to have a central charging station.

Having everything plugged in in the same area makes it easy to find and remember to take. It's a PITA to play treasure hunt around the plugs in your room in the morning before you run out and try and make rope drop.

Some sort of insulated beverage container that you can take to the parks. Yeah sure you can spend close to $20 bucks on a tiny Disney refillable mug but it's a lot cheaper to bring your own from home. TAKE that drink container to the parks! You can fill it with your choice of beverage and keep it frosty cold as you hydrate in the killer Florida heat. The water that is dispensed in the soda machines is filtered water so you don't get as much of that yummy Florida tap water taste :crazy2:. IN the parks you can go up to many of the food service places and request a cup of free ice water or just plain ice.

a roll of quarters for the laundry machines, detergent pods and fabric softener sheets. Shelley F from Ohio may want to bring a whole jug of tide and a "Las Vegas" amount of quarters to handle her broken washer laundry needs ;).

A Giant Shovel. Keep in mind we are talking a really big shovel because you might win an elephant in some contest and if you did then you would definitely need that shovel. I'd be remiss to point out that if you did not happen to win an elephant you could use your really big shovel to play on the beaches at the resort.

Rain ponchos. Walmart and Dick's sporting goods have the small, thin disposable ones that fit easily in a back back and can be ditched after unfolding. Disney has the ones that you have to take a mortgage out on to purchase but they last forever and are a bear (Carlton) to be refolded. You decide which one fits your touring style.

Mole skin, bandaids, crutches and a walker... because you will be doing close to 7 miles or more of walking a day and you got in shape before this trip by walking for at least a half an hour a day... right???

Sunglasses here is another item people forget in their rush to leave. Just drink heavily the night before you leave and then you will NEED to wear your sunglasses as soon as you open your eyes the next morning. You will definitely not forget them using this surefire method!

Pennies and quarters for the penny press machines. You know how it is, you walk into a gift shop thinking that you might find a delicious little something to buy and you end up staggering out with Disney sticker shock. The penny press machines, primarily located in the gift shops, are just the thing for you BUT.... how many times have you hung around the machines with all the other 5 year olds, bummed out that you don't have a penny and two quarters? Turn that frown upside down and search the sofa cushions for your quarters and pennies NOW!

Tweezers There is something about the Florida humidity that causes women to suddenly sprout a unibrow to rival Bert from Sesame Street. Take advantage of that giant magnifying mirror in the bathroom and get those tweezers out to tame the Florida unibrow. Ladies, this would also be a good time to get your husband to take a gander in that giant magnifying mirror so he can finally see those eyebrow "man-tennas" you've been complaining about all these years. You better pack a weed wacker for them...

Your prescription meds If you don't take any prescription meds find some one else who does and ask to share. Hopefully they have some good ones! ;)

Spare shoes Oops! You got caught in one of those Florida rain storms. You figured it would be ok to run around in it because it was only rain and you would dry off in no time.... but you forgot about the puddles and the fact that the rain would run down your legs and right into your sneakers. Don't be the guy that squishes and squashes around Disney for days while his only pair of foot wear takes days to dry out. Take a spare pair of foot wear!

Your Spouse! Every family has a person who does NOT want to go to Disney. Usually it's the spouse but it could easily be the teen. Use threats or whatever it will take to get them on the road. Promise them candy or liquor or what ever it takes. Once they are there they tend to forget about their problems and start to enjoy themselves. If they are still grumpy and they are not enjoying themselves then threaten to drop them off at the "Best Friends" pet kennel. That should do the trick.

The charging cords for all your electronic crap Pack this stuff ahead of time. Pack and and make sure it stays packed. If you need to charge it before you leave then use that rubber band trick from the phone charger tip.

So that's about it. You don't need to remember anything else. If you forget your underwear then Disney sells it but it will only fit if you are 5 years old and like princess underwear. For anything else you forgot there is Walmart. Nuff said!

We do resort hopping, some walking and relaxing. No parks as I value the money being paid for the price of admission and i don't want to waste any of it. When we go in early December that resort hopping becomes Christmas decoration viewing. It's easy to do. We have also considered the putt-putt golf to fill the time if we really need to. Being from Florida I imagine you have a FL Resident pass so going in and out of Epcot won't cost you anything (already a fixed cost) so walking around and doing some shopping in the countries may not be a really bad idea given how close you will be.

Just some thoughts.

Ninja Mom's (un)timely packing list!!

Take a POWER STRIP to have a central charging station.

~NM

NM, I have to say that the taking of the power stip is something I am really surprised that most people do not consider. For one thing, it allows you easy access to that power outlet that is stuck behind the desk or table. Second, there is never enough outlets in the room for all the items that need to be plugged in and finally, it is just too darn convenient. It is usually one of the first things in my "utility" bag when I am getting ready to head out on a trip. It also seems to be the one item that I find most of my traveling companions wish they had brought along when they see mine sitting on the dresser of my hotel room.

Is it possible to request a mini microwave in BC rooms?
if not, is access to a microwave available at the Marketplace?

Asking bc I have chronic stiffness in my neck and shoulders and every morning when I first get up I microwave my heat pack and rest it on my shoulders to loosen me up. (aging stinks!)

Yes, they have some that are available upon request, only. So you can request at time of check-in or ask Housekeeping. There is a microwave at the Marketplace, but hopefully, you can get one sent to your room.

True story- I love pressed pennies and a gazillion years ago on the DIS, I read a really great tip about packing quarters and pennies (pre 1967 or something like that) in mini M&M canisters. Of course, if you pack them Q, Q, P, Q, Q, P, you can grab the trio to use without digging out the correct change.

I happen to have empty Airborne capsule tubes, like the mini M&M containers and I filled them with the coins.

Last July was the only time my carryon luggage has ever been pulled aside for inspection by TSA. The offending item?

My canister of coins for smooshed pennies.

:headache:

Oh good! Thank You! :thumbsup2 Will note that on my check-in day info sheet.

Am planning on putting in a room request today but am second guessing myself- staying in a 2BR villa. We will have a carriage. Am I better off on a high floor ( quieter, with chance of seeing fireworks from room ) or first floor overlooking quiet pool so we can walk out balcony to pool and skip the elevator? TIA

Great packing list! We leave in just over three weeks! I am so excited! Does the Beach Club use the cuisinart coffee pod machines? I need good strong coffee in he morning and I am guessing that the coffee pods they supply won't cut it. I am thinking of ordering some to bring with me.
