Now the only time I really fly is every three years or so to disney, have never paid more then 300.00 a ticket, last time in 2011, I paid 275.00' this year ,420.00 a ticket, ouch, I paid for six tickets,
The bad part, I have to drive 2 1/2 hours to Logan, rather then half an hour to Portland ,but that ticket was 576.00 !!!!!!

The good news, we get into Orlando at 11 in the morning and it's a direct flight!!!!
You give some to get some!!!!!

Airfare always seems higher than I remember paying for it. Hopefully you signed up for the loyalty program- sometimes you can earn free flights. :)

I would pay the extra to get the direct flight! Did you get a direct flight back?

We experienced the same exact sticker shock. The last time we flew to MCO it was around $270 per person. This time, $400. I almost fainted.

Lol our flights are at least $700 per person, sometimes more and we live an hour from the Canada/US border. Yours sound like a bargain. Be grateful you fly out of the US!

We got Southwest out of Manchester, NH for $214 per person round trip and direct flights. Not sure when OP is traveling but unless it is over a holiday or spring break you can still find reasonable airfare out if the northeast.

and that is why my family of 5 is driving for our June trip! The lowest I've ever paid round trip from Austin to MCO was $178 which was a bargain! Since I've been stalking it lately, its been north of $300 and last night when I looked it was $444 on Southwest! We love a good road trip, though, so I'm not disappointed that we're driving! When we have to buy 5 tickets, it really hampers our ability to fly!

If it make everyone feel better when we fly from Alberta ,Canada it costs ........$600-800 per seat !!!

I hear you OP. Our SW points are the only thing making our next trip possible.

I went back to my records for my 2010 trip to see what I spent on airfare. Turns out, I used airline points. I could have sworn I paid Delta. Anyway, I am also stunned by the price of RT ticket this time. Same flight as before is well over $400.

I am also looking to fly out of Portland. SW announced last summer non stop to Orlando I was so happy until I found out it was for only 1 month! We are going in October and I'm not willing to drive out of state so I'm looking at $400 through laguardia or JFK. Holding out buying hoping it goes down but I may regret it! :worried:

Just keep searching whenever you have a moment and always clear your cookies when you are done.

Occasionally, if you are really lucky and get on the right site at the right time, you can score on a glitch (other websites aside from Disney's have them once in a while). A few years ago I snagged flights where they had clearly only loaded the taxes but in the fare section it showed the cost as 0. It was ridiculously cheap and I booked. Told someone who didn't believe me and I went to post a link minutes later and they had shot up by hundreds.

I hate flight hunting. It turns into a part time job in its own right but persistence usually pays off. Hope you get a good deal on yours :goodvibes

It's the same with us. We go every year & every year it's a little bit higher. It's just crazy, especially considering how crappy & uncomfortable the flights are.

I always book SW so that I can rebook if the flight gets cheaper. Obviously that money turns into a credit versus a refund, but I know I will use it.

Btw - there was a law passed about a year or two ago where airlines have to display their prices so that they include taxes and fees. Sometimes that is why there may be sticker shock.

Why not fly out of Manchester?? :confused3

We have direct flights at our preferred times for $265/pp round trip on SW.

We have done JB out of Logan as well for even less, but we are less than an hour from Logan.

We got a great price in May. Usually we pay $525 or more per ticket but we got ours for $340 this time. We adjusted our days though to fly Weds and Monday to save $$.

Thankfully its not as bad for us because we are on the East Coast, but flight costs do prevent us from going west for vacation so DL is out for now.

I always have sticker shock when booking our tickets but thankfully have enough air miles that I've only had to pay the tax for our last 12 flights. In '08 I paid $104 for a roundtrip ticket leaving from my home airport and connecting in Charlotte. Those tickets are now well over $400 so we drive the 2.5 hours to Philly (~$350 per ticket) and "enjoy" a direct flight (enjoy in quotes because the Philly airport is anything but enjoyable!).

I would LOVE to find airfare for our December trip that's in the $400 range, lol! So far everything out of Denver is $800+. And to fly out of our local airport is several hundred more. Really hoping SW comes out with some bargains next month. I'd even consider $500 a bargain at this point! Definitely more than I've ever paid before. Demand must be high this year.
