Is Food and Wine ruining Epcot for families?

Because the kids saw it!

I don't feel it should be adult only, .. Just making a point

It's disappointing that over the last several years of attending that it seems to be descending into such a drunken party scene.

In my opinion it's hard to cater to a party crowd alongside young families.

It just seemed really rude of you to suggest that Allison thought it was okay for children to witness sexually provocative behavior when all she said was that she didn't feel that the F&W festival was ruining Epcot for families.

What was the point of that? :confused3

I'm pretty sure all those alcohol booths aren't there for young families. And Disney is for everyone. So who do you think Disney wants in the World Showcase during food and wine? Adults 21+ who drink and spend money or young families who won't be drinking and spending money? When I go with my DH, we drink, we eat, we spend money. When we go with the kids we don't. I'm pretty sure Disney likes us better when we come without kids. ;)

You are correct. Disney has created something that I'm sure has been a huge success with a certain age group. It's just disappointing when you have a bad experience that stems from the fact that certain activities don't mix well with young families.

I'm not against a family friendly environment (Obviously) and I'm not against a grown up environment. It's just not always a good recipe when they mix.

If you carefully look at that post you'll see it ends with at "?" ... That means it was a question.

I can tell you I've seen sexual activities at other parks that are definitely NOT family friendly. Including the MK where there isn't any alcohol.

People who act out like that, will do so, regardless of their environment. It is unfortunate, for everyone when that happens.

The drunks and sexual acts are getting worse and worse. It has been for years and we feel we van no longer bring our grand kids to food and wine. Yes food and wine is for everyone and not just a drunk fest!

Sure every adult should be able to enjoy a few drinks and I do as well, but the falling down, weaving and urinating in the bushs, Groping your girl on a bench, that has got to stop!

AKK

We were really concerned about taking our kids to F&W on the first Friday evening it was on, based on what I'd heard here. Thankfully, our experience was fine, and I'm glad we were able to make that choice ourselves. I would have been really annoyed if we couldn't go because WS was adults only on a Friday evening or something.

That said, some of the stories I've heard about behavior at F&W does make me think that perhaps Disney needs to up the security presence in WS at certain times during F&W. Anyone who is vomiting in the bushes, or acting in a manner that is blatantly inappropriate, really shouldn't be there.

No I don't agree. Disney is not just about families with young children. It is about families, honeymooners, grandparents, singles, empty nesters - you get the picture. Why did you choose to go to Epcot on a Saturday night of Food & Wine when it has been widely reported to be unpleasant for young families? I do think there needs to be an attempt made to tone down the big groups of locals who come in on weekends with the express intent of drinking to excess. How to do that is beyond me. But other than on known Saturday nights, it is a pleasant experience for all.

Where would I have gone to find out that Saturdays are "unpleasant " ? Does Disney post that? I didn't see any disclaimer when I went online to purchase park tickets?

That's exactly how I read it. Really, why would you ask anybody if that type of behavior is okay? :confused3

I'd love to know if others agree that the atmosphere at Epcot when F&W is on, isn't always kid friendly ?

Last evening while walking around the countries I encountered an unbelievable amount of intoxicated and less than kid friendly behavior.

Is this really good PR for Disney to show off to families with children??

Should world showcase be deemed adult only after a certain time of day while F&W is on?

~I don't think Food & Wine is ruining Epcot for families. It's what I would expect to see on a Friday or Saturday night. The same goes for the movies or even some of the Signature dining experiences, too. The title of "Food and Wine" suggests that it's more along the lines of an adult experience. Sorry about your experience, I'm sure it's much better for families and children during the day and weekdays.

So you are now no longer say it was a suggestion, but rather wanting to know why a question was asked?

No way to know how many had a designated driver, took a cab, walked to their resort, took a bus or drove.

One of the reasons we love drinking at WDW is that it is so simple to get back to the resort- no worries about who is going to drive, parking, etc, just hop on a bus or a cab (if it is really late!) and we are good to go.

It sounded to me like you were suggesting that she condones this type of behaviour because you asked her this question.

If, in your opinion, you have watched this deteriorate over the last several years, why would you take your family back to see it again?

Yes, Yes, & Yes! ::yes::

Will not go again during F&W.

Like everything else it is what you make of it, if your kids are impressionable enough to think that what they see in Disney is appropriate behavior for living their own lives, we have been exposed to that kind of behavior in restaurants, parks, at the beach etc. and for us it s a teaching experience to explain good choices etc. and the reason that over consumption no matter where you are is never good. As making it adult only? No make a choice weather to attend or not.
Just my opinion

That may be so, but that's not exactly the OP's point! A family Disney park should not turn into a bar, and if so, should be treated like any bar, and the age requirement should be met - or at least not 'under' a certain age admitted.

Are you saying that is should be only 21 and over during F and W?

There are drunks at Disney every day of the year. There are people who sneak booze into the MK. During the summer when it is really hot, you will see a lot of angry, overheated drunks.

This is the same thread that comes up every year. You'd think people who have been to F&W before and who have been members here for years would know that the Friday/Saturday nights at F&W is not the place that young families will likely enjoy being at.
