If you don't live where you are "from," what products do you miss?

I'm from the Chicago suburbs of Illinois. Now I live in Wisconsin. Friends and family that visit bring me Portillos Italian beef and chocolate cake. Sometimes, I make the 3 1/2 hour visit back just for Portillos or Gino's East or Lou Malnotti's pizza!

That's exactly what DH misses from Chicago! I'm from VA and he is from Chicago. We now live in NE. We both miss Utz and he misses Yueng Ling beer. We bring it back with us after we visit each summer.

Canadian living in NC... I miss Tim Horton's doughnuts and Kraft peanut butter. I stocked up on pb during my last trip north.

Yes but have you tried the Cheerwine!? :goodvibes

Living in my hometown, but have been all over. Here's what I WOULD miss:

Cheerwine on tap
Chopped pork BBQ
Slaw on my hotdogs
REAL sausage gravy (although that's getting harder to find)
Turnip greens
Sweet Tea.

I remember the first time I was in Boston, I ate at Legal Sea Food. I asked for Broiled Flounder. The waiter said "rolled in what". I said "uh..... I don't care, what are the options?" He said "Well you want it rolled. Rolled in what?" I said, "I'm not sure what you mean. As long as it's broiled".

You can guess how long that conversation went on........

**For those of you that aren't used to the Southern Accent, we don't say Broy-uhld. We say Broalled. **

I am from NYC and I miss:

Pizza
Bagels
Italian bread
Those awesome deli hoagies made with said italian bread with fresh mozzarella and cold cuts.

I live in Virginia. I am from upstate Ny. O miss beef on weck and my bison dip.

Where in Va do you live? They have several Wegmans in Va now so you can get Bison dip and other Ny food stuff. I also live in Va and dh and I are originally from Rochester so we stock up when we make a Wegmans trip...

I live in nyc, but I'm from Vermont. I miss Cabot (we have it here, but have very few options), cider doughnuts, and being able to pick-your-own produce. I'm also fortunate that my father sends me real maple syrup regularly.

Don't forget Frank's hot sauce:thumbsup2
I don't have any problem finding Frank's down here. Publix and Walmart have it.

From WI living in Orlando....
1. Good beer (Spotted Cow, Leines, etc)
2. Cheese curd (no not the things from A&W, that is fried cheese)
3. Good Chocolate milk
4. Culvers (although they are supposedly going to put in a couple in Orlando soon)
5. Cousin's subs
Not sure how far you are from Longwood, but I heard Petty's Meats can special order cheese curd.

My mom LOVES cheese curd and finally found it locally at a produce market.

Italy -

many, many items
Gelato
Pastries/cookies
brick oven pizza
pane & panelle
mufeletta
octopus - w/head/ink - sea urchents (sp?)
granita

Many more - but these come to mind right now

Now I'm not going to say it would feel authentic to you and the food would taste the same BUT have you been to Little Italy NYC ? If you haven't been there you should really try to and for the San Gennaro Feist/Festival that starts September 15

This is what I miss MOST about living in NY, you're not far you could look into one of the tasting tours There are also people in those family run restaurants that are from Italy that would probably love to talk to you :thumbsup2

A real warm & inviting community

Now I am HOMESICK !!

Ruthie

Living in my "home" state (lived here since preschool). I would miss Ale8One (I don't have them often but when the mood strikes, it strikes hard.

And if I ever move, thankfully Woodford Reserve is available outside the state. ;)

OOOOOMMMMMGGG!!! YOU HAVE TOTALLY MADE MY FAMILY'S DAY!! :cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1: I don't care how far I have to drive we will be on our way sometime this week to get some (it will probably take about 30mins)!! THANK YOU:worship:
:worship::worship::worship::worship:

Now..do you know where we can get GOOD donuts. It is so strange to go to Publix and not have a good selection of decent bake goods (the Midwest bake goods, not the guava stuff, haha no offense to anyone!)

You're welcome. Give them a call to make sure they have it or can get it, before you drive that far.

As for donuts, the best ones we can find around here are Krispy Kreme delivered to the gas station on the corner. LOL They must have a good bakery (maybe not in a grocery store though) in Orlando somewhere.

I'm from NJ and now live in Connecticut.

I miss:
Wawa
Tasty Cakes (oh my god. butterscotch krimpets. kandy kakes)

Not having to pump my own gas (when I first moved here I waited 10 minutes before getting frustrated and driving to another gas station. I was angry waiting at the next one and complaining to my boyfriend when he said "you do know you have to do it yourself, right?")

Shore food, esp. Johnsons Popcorn.

I've lived in LA and London too.
I do miss In and Out and Poquito Mas. I really miss crunchie bars and Tyrell's popcorn (I swear I bought back a suitcase full). The snack food was just so much better in London.

when DSIL was last in Iraq we did and had cases shipped His FAVES !! You must be able to do the same, I see the butterscotch down here for sale so they are still being made :thumbsup2

Where do you live in CT? I live in the Boston area and just about every grocery store near me has Tastykakes.

Live in Atlanta but from NW Indiana about a hour from Chicago. I miss Italian Beef and Gino's East deep Dish pizza

Moved here to very South Texas from Central Massachusetts20 years ago.
Like others, there are many things I miss.
First, though they're not food products, boy do I miss the soft grass of the North (grass down here is so stiff!), cut your own Christmas trees, and fall visits to apple orchards.
Food products and brands-
1. Rhubarb, especially strawberry rhubarb pie
2. Friendly's ice cream, especially the Reese's Piece's sundae
3. Dunkin Donuts
4. B&M baked beans (I think that's the brand)-it comes in a crown bean jar
5. Hood's Golden Eggnog around holiday time
6. Loose tea (not in bags)
7. fresh garden peas
8. Marshmallow fluff, I forget the brand, but it's not Kraft
9. And this weekend I really miss all the foods at the Woodstock Fair in Connecticut, especially the "World's Best Hot Fudge Sundae". It's the best for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a snack.

Native Mainer now living in Southern Arizona.

Products I miss:

Seafood! I miss good clam chowder, corn chowder, fried haddock and halibut.

Fresh blueberries, raspberries and corn on the cob

Red hot dogs and New England style hot dog rolls

Nissen donuts (especially the chocolate ones with powdered or granulated sugar) and Devil Dogs

Amato's and D'Angelo's sandwich shops, Alex's Pizza and Dunkin Donuts. We do have Dunkin Donuts in Arizona, but not one on every corner like back home, and the dunkin donuts here do not taste the same as the ones back in New England.

I miss the Christmas Tree Shops, too. Love that place!:thumbsup2

I miss the ocean, everything about it...the sight, sound, smell. I miss that foggy, salty air.:)

If we ever left Arizona, I would miss In 'n Out Burger, Culvers, the beautiful sunshine, palm trees, mountains, breathtaking sunsets, short jaunts to the California coastline and Las Vegas. Oh, did I mention the gorgeous weather!:cool1: Well, not so much in the summer, but the rest of the year!

As long as I continue to get back to Maine at least once a year to get my fix of seafood, the Atlantic Ocean and shopping at the Christmas Tree Shop, LL Bean and Kennebunkport shops, I'm good!:rotfl:

I still live in CA but a few counties away.
I miss
Athenian Grill! I love that place!
Nations! I know they opened one in Sac, but I am afraid to try it. Nothing better than a grilled cheese with their "secret" sauce. ie Miracle whip.
Babs Delta Diner. My family all seems to go there when I am NOT there. UGH! Their grilled cheese or cinnamon raisin toast is so good.

I think I need to go home for a visit soon! :woohoo:

When you mentioned hot dogs, it reminded me of something else I miss-hot dogs with skins! I want to feel that crunch again when I have hot dogs.
And I had to laugh when you mentioned the ocean. I love Cape Cod, as DH knows. So when we moved down here he tried to convince me that "Oh, you'll love South Padre Island, it's just like the Cape!" News flash-it's not at ALL like Cape Cod as I told DH emphatically after we moved. The only thing SPI shares with the Cape is a nearness to ocean, an here it's the Gulf of Mexico, not even the Atlantic!
