OK I literally just got kidnapped.....

Ownership in a time share. Sounds like the time share salesman tried to counter her refusal to "buy a piece of paper" (which is what a timeshare ownership IS...it's not ownership of an actually piece of property), by trying to compare it to paying for all the paperwork that goes along with buying a car...which is a stupid analogy for him to make, as the poster pointed out.

Thanks! I was beginning to worry about my language skills. ;)

Carmax seems great, but expect to pay about $2,000 more than other places for the same car in the same condition.

I agree. CarMax used to be great to sell your car, but now you get more from a trade-in. I bought a used car at a dealer, CarMax was way more.

I am figuratively sick of the misuse of "literally" :headache:

It is an extremely annoying tactic that has been going on since at least the first time I took a test drive (about 14 years ago).
I have walked out of more than one dealership over such rudeness and hard sale tactics.
Holding your keys is not anywhere close to kidnapping you though :rotfl2:

Thanks I will look into that carmax. I just find it really incredible that ANYONE would think those are good sales tactics. And if I were the owner or general manager I would fire that loser on the spot. I may still complain.

He was probably taught that from the sales manager. It is a common tactic.

I distinctly ordered the sports wagon in Antarctic blue with the rally fun pack and the cb radio.

You didn't order the metallic pea?

No, this isn't even the right model.

Oh, I know what happened, your car didn't make it in, but if you're taking a cross country trip, the wagonqueen family Truckster is the car for you.

I'm not falling for that scam. Just bring back my old car......

You think you hate it now, just wait 'til you drive it!

Thanks for the warning!!! Starting next month I am going to begin shopping for a new car.

If this happens to me I will politely ask for my keys once. If they do not give them back I will "demand" that they give them to me immediately, if they do not I will excuse myself to make a phone call and then I will call the police and tell them I am being held against my will.

Sounds like more of a hostage situation....

I took my sister in law to buy a new car recently. We were there for about 6 hours. I was so aggravated and can't imagine it taking this long.

In our area you can go on line and request a quote. We did this for our last 2 cars (brand new cars). Told them what we were looking for and they emailed a quote back. We went in and it was just a matter of what we were going to get on a trade. It did take quite a few hours for all of the paperwork to be completed.

It's an old tactic. My DH and I take an extra key and give them that, not even the key fob, just a key! No one has ever tried it on us, but it's pretty obvious it's not our regular key chain we hand them.

Hmm yes but using the word "literally" in such a situation just emphasizes the rudeness of the sales manager loser person involved, whatever he was, I am still not sure if he was a manager or what. So you see although I wasn't "literally" kidnapped, the use of the word "literally" nonetheless emphasizes the point, so you see there is actually a legitimate reason for using the word "literally." :)

Question: why would you hand over the keys to your car when car shopping? I've bought 4 cars and have never done that.

I have no idea how common this practice is, but I can just see some idiot sales manager barking to the salesmen, whatever you do, rule number one, don't let them leave. But it is really a dumb tactic. The last thing you want to do is annoy or anger someone you are trying to sell something to. I just don't see how anyone would think that's a good idea.

I know I'm not suppose to post and all but when I saw the thread title and saw it was you, I actually thought maybe you had been. After all, you have a crazy ex and boyfriend and seem to have some unsavory friends on Facebook. So in this case I "literally" thought you had been kidnapped.
