Main 2 perks for most are you earn miles at 50% more then Red & you can use PE check in even if flying economy (that is a big thing for me if using DTD checkin, I wouldn't use it myself if flying economy but its a great service when using the PE check in and cut the line)

Ah excellent, didn't realise I can do that. So at downtown disney check in there is also a separate check in for PE travellers?

Yes, I have used the Economy line once with a long wait, tried a couple of times with line too long but last time I was flying PE so it was great to bypass the long line(1hour+ I estimate) and go straight to the front.
I know others have no problems with lines at DTD but we have never had any luck.

If you get there half an hour before they open (yes that's a half hour wait!) you will be in the first few families. This has always worked for us on repeated trips. Personally I'm happy to be there first and wait that first half hour. It's just an extension of what we do at the parks every day so we're in that routine by then!!!! I just get breakfast to take out and the kids eat that while we wait for them to open.

We also get there 30 mins or so before they open the DTD check in desks and we are normally the 1st or 2nd family in the PE line. Once we're done we drive back to the hotel and park the car and then normally go into EPCOT for breakfast.

Getting there early is probably the way to go. We prefer to try stay in bed as long as poss the last day, not get up til about 8, out for 9 so doesn't work well for us but not that bothered about it anyway, I would rather leave luggage in the trunk than stand there 30+ mins.

How do you find out if its worked and how long before it changes to Silver on your flying club website profile?

My emails are down at the moment so if you get email confirmation I'll have to wait.

Its instant, log back into your account and it should be upgraded.

A reliable source over at v-flyer has posted that all upgrades on this link over the last few days will be reversed over the next couple of weeks and genuine IoD members will have to contact FC to prove they are eligible to keep the offer.
