Hi. We were also on the Sandy cruise last year and are looking forward to better weather this trip. We are traveling with DD and her DH, who were with us that cruise also. The Fantasy is a great ship!! Cannot convince anyone to enter into the Halloween costume contest this trip. (the contest, held at around 9:00 PM, is for adults only and has several different catagories) We look forward to meeting other Disers. Phil

Fish Extenders [FE]

GROUP THREE IS NOW CLOSED

Here is a brief tutorial that I put together a few years back . . .

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=28549569&postcount=61

It is probably worth mentioning that on the newer ships, not all staterooms have “Fish”:

  • The FISH are on PORT side
  • The SEAHORSE are on STARBOARD side
  • The STARFISH are on CONCIERGE level

Booked our first Disney cruise today for October 26. It will be myself, my DH, and our DD age 3. To say I am excited is to put it mildly. Cannot wait to sail. Just wanted to say hi! :)

:wave2: Welcome to our new families!!

Earlier this week, we booked our post-cruise night at VWL and last night, Mom and I put our deposit down on Nachi Cocum! Next up, SWA release in early May for our flight home! Our to-do list is getting shorter!

You'll love nachi cocum! I went there in 2011 and it was a great day - very relaxing and it was fun to try so many different adult beverages :beach:

That's great to hear! We'd read about it on another trip report and had bookmarked it for our next trip to Cozumel.

Hello all!

I believe some of you are new cruisers, so I wanted to share with you something we just discovered on our last cruise [and for some reason, when I started typing this it has turned into more than the one tip I had originally planned to share] . . .

Room Service [in case you are not aware] is "free", but they do expect tips. We typically use them at least twice a day. We have late seating for dinner, so while we are getting ready we usually order a cheese platter. Also, I wake up first in the morning, and I need coffee right away! What I normally do is call for a carafe of coffee each night before turning in. The carafe keeps the coffee hot enough for me (it is still hot, but not burning hot, which is actually how I like it), and no one else on the ship has to worry about dealing with me before I have my coffee!!

We typically tip the Room Service Waiter $2 (unless we are ordering more than the one pot of coffee or the one cheese platter). So, we keep an envelope with dollar bills in the drawer by the closet.

Last year, we cruised B2B so when we were checking in for the first one, the CM that checked us in gave us an extra key (one that had no charging privileges on it). We kept this in the same drawer as our tip envelope and then we were able to also use that as our light switch. [if you are not aware, you need to use some sort of a card to control your lights/TV]. As we were checking in for the second cruise, we asked for another key so we could do the same thing. As often happens when you get a different person, she was not aware of all the same trick, so she kept telling us they were not allowed to give us and extra key. After we explained to her what we wanted to use it for, she said that she could just give us a blank card, so it was not able to be used as a key or a charge card - so that worked out even better!!

The advantage of the extra key is that if the key is that if the person who puts their key into the slot happens to be ready to leave the room before everyone else, you don't need to switch out the keys.

Summary of Tips:
  • When checking in, ask for a key blank to be used as a light switch.
  • Keep an envelope of small bills handy to tip room service.
  • If you like coffee before you open your eyes, order the pot from room service the night before.
  • Room service is available 24/7 on the cruise with the exception of the last night when they close around 10 or 11 pm.

Bonus Tip:
We bring a magnetic hook for each person cruising. They are stuck to the inside of the Stateroom Door. We hang our lanyards on there as well as our sunglasses and it makes them easy to find as we head out each time!

Thank you, I like the tip about the hook :thumbsup2. Some times thouse KTTW get lost inside our Not So Magical Room Mess :lmao: and it takes a few minutes to find them and as usual we are always in a hurry. :lmao:

I too recomend the room service specially after a hard party night we order some breakfast, coffee , OJ, for the room to sleep/relax a little longer.

If you have some old room key cards from other hotels or WDW, they will work in the light thing too. I can't tell you how many room keys I can find in my luggage at any given time! It helps that we stay at the Hyatt MCO the night before, so we usually use those since they are easily accessible.

I like the idea of the magnetic hook. Where did you get them at?

Hey Michelle, we are planning to book Nachi Cocom too - hopefully a few from our group will be there :thumbsup2

I pretty much buy everything on Amazon - if you go there and search for "magnetic hook" you will see what I'm talking about - but you can also buy them at walmart, or target or just about anywhere . . . . be aware that they come in different strengths - I didn't realize that and one time I guess we showed up with some really cheap ones and each morning we would find our hooks down on the floor - that is isn't quite as helpful. . .

Was wondering about Nachi Cocom, is this something offered through disney? We have done 2 cruises but never booked an excursion on our own. :)

No, its not offered through Disney. You have to take a taxi over. It's an all-inclusive beach club that limits daily admission. I had read about it in this trip report http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2580240 and Mom and I decided that next time we go to Cozumel, we have to go!

dizney-cruiser, love the tip of the day idea! I'd like to offer one for today, if you don't mind.

The wine package can be a good deal depending on the type wine you select. But for us, we can't drink a full bottle every night (well, we could, but we'd probably be sent to our staterooms for poor behavior!). :drinking1We learned on our last cruise that you can buy the 5-night wine package on the 7-night cruise! That worked out perfectly for us.

We are planning Nachi Cocom for our Cozumel day. The kids will love it, I think. I'm not much of a beach person but I like the sound of free cocktails :thumbsup2
