Mistake you will not repeat next time...

Taking the bus to Animal Kingdom and HS . We had our car, next time we will use it so we do do not have to wait for over packed buses with "men" who don't know common decency to give up their seat for a lady or child....

That's very helpful! I think we will skip it again. My boys do get scared pretty easily. I would hate for them to be terrified & stuck there in the dark.

My daughter was 3, so pretty young. Almost as soon as it started she started screaming, "Lets get out of this place" OVER and OVER. I finally had to take her out. It can be extremely intimidating for the younger ones. She went two years later and LOVED it. Watch it on youtube and decide that way :goodvibes

I will never stay at a value resort again. Even my DD7 says she'd rather go less often, and stay at a Moderate.

Always remember to bring comfortable shoes, forgot mine the first trip and it was terrible. :confused3

Don't book too much the first night. We booked The Blue Man Show at Universal for the first night of our trip, because I could get second row tickets on a Thursday night. Its only 14 miles from Disney.

I got to the Swan Dolphin and just wanted to sit on our balcony and watch the Fireworks from Epcot after dinner. But instead we had to get dressed, and go out to a show. Never again! Show was great! But too much running around for our first day.

Eating lunch at the House of Blues in Downtown Disney (spicy food) before going on any Disney thrill ride.

We don't eat like this at home. So we already felt calorie overload, before we even saw the plate of food

Then add-in thrill rides designed for maximum G-force, and we both felt it in our stomachs :rotfl::p:teleport:

Live and Learn... as they say!

Our 6-year-old was terrified, as were tons of other kids around us. And honestly, I thought the "show" was just a mish-mosh of random images with no real cohesion. Basically, they take you through Mickey's worst nightmare - seriously. The effects of the picture on the water was kinda cool, for a minute or two. And then it's good luck not getting trampled leaving the theatre. We'd have walked out in the middle, but it was so dark, we couldn't see the stairs well enough to do so safely.

I have to agree with you on this! We felt like it was a waste of time.

Not relevant now but in my first visit to MK back in 98 we went on that ghastly alien adventure attraction on tomorrowland ( now that stitch attraction) where what can only be described as a giant cockroach appeared in a tube in the middle of the room. I think it was called 'alien encounter' or something. It was my first disney experience and omg I was terrified lol. I had wanted to come to WDW since I could crawl ( from the UK ) so was very shocked at how undisney it was!

We came off it thinking...where was mickey , minne and pixie dust there then...

Lucky we did recover from the jetlag and shock to try space mountain and all was forgotten lol...

Glad they got rid of that though...it was really scary!

I will not try and get my DD to like something that she is terrified of. I am of the thinking that you dont know if you like it til you try it. But anything I suggest my DD try that she is just terrified of is making her more and more distant to Disney World and more and more Pro-Sesame Place (bc to her, Sesame doesnt have scary rides). I am devastated to see this happening because I am a bona fide Disney fanatic and have dreamed of taking her all my life. She's been 3 times and loves it, but she just goes on the same 3 rides over and over bc she is terrified of everything else. Too dark and too loud. Thats what she says. And I am starting to agree. I wish they had more rides like Sesame and Hershey! She's starting to turn her fear to most of the rides into a fear of Disney World in general. I'm so sad. :(

Wow that is a true bummer. Maybe take a break from taking her there, and maybe when she is 5, 6 or even 7 she will like it better. Have you taken her to Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster?

I will not take family members whose company I do not enjoy just because they make me feel guilty. We spend a fortune on vacation and I'm not going to let it be ruined by spending it with someone that I don't like!

This seems to be a consistent theme...

1. Enchanted Tiki Room - only thing at WDW none of us liked.

2. Never travelling without cold meds again - last time I ended up with a horrible cold that turned out to be pneumonia...didn't bring cold medication so spent $3 several times a day to buy each pill individually at the POR store.

3. Not so much a "mistake", but will never travel with a bag again...we love going bagless now that we've done it.

We had table service reservations for dinner after a day at Typhoon Lagoon and had planned to go straight from park to restaurant. Though we did have dry clothes, we didn't think to bring any personal care items. Not wanting to show up for dinner looking like a pack of drowned rats, we searched the TL shop for combs, deodorant, etc. without success. We ended up cancelling the reservation and going back to the resort to pull ourselves together before finding something to eat there. Perhaps some people can look respectable after a day at a water park, but I fear we are not among them.

There have been many mistakes through out all of our trips over the years.

One that I will always remember, If a family member is grumpy, feed them or let them swim, encourage a nap, sleep in the next morning. - Do whatever it takes to make them happy.

It makes our vacation a happy vacation.

This made me chuckle. With our first trip with our young kids to DW fast approaching, I can about imagine me getting chewed out for being stressed and crabby. ;) Naps are good for me!

Oh I love that map. Do you have a google earth map of the whole park with it labeled like that?

My list;
Trying to go the park on arrival day. Just can't do it anymore. It is unpack and rest for me on day one now.
Thinking I have to do rope drop. Yes you will get more done if you do, but I am a night owl, and the extra sleep makes my day so much more enjoyable ( and I can stay later.)

Please don't judge those you don't know. This man has Vertigo as well as arthritis in both hips, makes it almost impossible to stand on a moving vehicle. But to look at me you would just see a healthy looking 40 something man.
