EBPC December 9, 2012!!! PART 2

We started our vacation yesterday arriving in LA

Loved. In and Out. Burgers worth the stop for great cheap fast food

In San Diego old town eating Mexican after a day at seaworld.

I fogot the my pal mickeys and a few otbher things. Alreay went to target.

We cant wait for the cruise to see everyone.

Don't know if you got your burger "animal style", but it is the best! Anytime someone comes to visit us from out of state, In-N-Out is a must do...if not on their list, it is on ours! Enjoy your time in SoCal!

I saw this earlier this week and it is soooo true in our house and very timely. :lmao:

This pretty much sums up my life...and DH would certainly agree!

Question for those who have BTDT for the Costa Maya ruins.....

How would you dress / what would you bring for yourself and small children? I am bringing mosquito repellant wipes, sunblock, hats, etc. For clothing, I'm torn between dressing as lightly as possible to keep cool vs. covering up to protect from mosquitoes, scrapes, etc.

Hi. I was planning on stopping for some Champagne and wine on Sunday before hopping on the boat. What are the California liquor laws? Do they sell alcohol on Sunday? I may have to run out of the hotel Saturday night. Thanks. Sherry

Long sleeved, light coloured clothing and good walking shoes. I'd rather be warm then have too much exposed skin. Light colours help with the mosquitoes. Other than water and a camera I can't think of anything that you haven't already named (but I don't have kids!)

Since we're staying in Miami for a few days, I booked a rental car from the Hertz terminal at the port. When I logged into my account today to print the reservation, the price they're quoting is DOUBLE what it was back in April! I know it's peak time, but why would I spend over $400 for a rental car for 2 days!
I called and the customer service confirmed that we'd pay the lower price. I just hope the port doesn't have to do a bunch of finagling to get my price to equal the reservation price. I'll print extra copies to make sure I can prove the price I was quoted!

The only time we don't sell alcohol is between 2:00am and 6:00am.

WOW! Going to check ours now...Thanks for the heads up!

We'd held off getting a rental car in LA until last week and not surprisingly the rate doubled. I went to priceline, entered less than half the going rate for a mid-size and it was accepted in less than 10 seconds. :cool1:

I'm the same way. I'm always sure that the worst will happen, I'll miss the plane, I'll be seasick or get norovirus (I've had both on the same cruise, but that didn't stop me from cruising again LOL!!!) and all the other things that can happen. Once I'm finally on the ship I know I'll be just fine.

Tomorrow I plan to decorate the Christmas tree and finish the second ornament for the exchange, Wednesday and Thursday I'll get the packing finished, and Friday I'll come home and take a nap since we have to leave the house around 3:15 AM. I'm hoping to sleep in the car on the way to the airport, and sleep most of the flight. This way I should be awake when we get to LA!

And here I was worried that I was the only worrier in the group!! I am a worrier by nature, a detail person, an overplanner, over analyzer and just plain nervous person - all bad traits to have for a person who likes to take as many trips as I do. I will be fine when I get on the ship, its just the getting there that will nearly kill me first. I just keep telling myself that 99% of the things that I worry about never happen. I'm not really a drinker, but lately I've been thinking that I should start!

Jeff,

Where are you returning your car? We have a car booked from Enterprise to return in San Pedro. I'd love to try for a cheaper deal from Priceline but I had to book the San Pedro return on the phone because Enterprise's website didn't offer that option.

And I am off to reconfirm my Florida car rental reservation!

Thanks for all the tips every one!

Long Beach airport and then we're taking a cab over to the Port.

Thanks Jeff--even with the cab fare that's A LOT cheaper than what I currently have booked.

I looked at Priceline (this would be my first Priceline experience) and I'm not sure where you select Long Beach airport as the drop off--as we are arriving at LAX.

Thanks for your help.

Rental cars are terribly expensive in Florida. Tha've promised it's a computer glitch, but still not fun to worry about, especially at the end of the trip!

To top it off, I ordered DH a new bathing suit last Friday. The rest of the order has shipped, but the suit hasn't!! Ugh! I guess I'll see if it ships tomorrow and if not, I'll have to go out and find him one. What a PITA!!! When they tell you 3-5 business days, I wish they'd hold themselves to it!!

I had to do a lot of finagling to get a decent rate and ended up doing a one day out of Miami to Orlando, dropping off the next morning and picking up a new car at the same place!

To have kept the same car would have doubled the price!

Is it too late to get 2 half-marathon certs and logs?
There should be extras. I believe Jeff printed some out as well for us. Between the two of us, hopefully we will have everyone covered.

This pretty much sums me up, except for the drinking part, I'm a lush. I have traveled all over the world and often, and it never goes away.

I noticed that too. We're staying in Florida a few days and I've been told the rates are so high because it's Christmas weekend. Hopefully gas prices won't be so bad.

We did most of our packing last night. We need to borrow a suitcase, so some stuff is still sitting out. I tried really hard not to bring too much, but still we need a 3rd bag, well DH also has a 4th smaller one as a carry on. we are flying Southwest, so they are free. It was hard to put some of my new dresses back, but hopefully my gold shoes actually go with all my dressier clothes. I hate bringing too many shoes that only get worn once.
we just need to clean up the house. My friend is house sitting.
Hopefully DH remembers to print all the stuff we need today at work. I can't believe the cruise is actually here! I am going to miss our dogs. The one is sick, so hopefully she will be okay while we are gone.
