Your "good friend" has a great eye. The placement is wonderful! How many D&B Disney bags do you own now? I um......own a........couple........well......
last count maybe just five. :)

....there's 'logic'....and then there's 'KIMMAR LOGIC'....it usually involves bacon though...

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: A true statement I must say! :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Hello! This coming October will be our families first trip to Disney World! Me, DH, 9 & 13 year old boys. Up until free dining came about we had the Contemporary booked, but they didn't have any rooms that would qualifiy to add free dining. So we switched to AKL, Arusha, savanna view. The kids are super excited, hubby couldn't care less except that by making the switch we saved a whopping $1,200.00. I'm excited, but all I have researced for the past year revolved around the Contemporary. I would love to hear more about AKL:thumbsup2

:welcome: Kgreen we are happy to have you join us over here. This is a great group of peple who love Disney, Animal Kingdom Lodge and Kadani. We together have vast knowledge of both resorts so please ask any questions you may have and we will be happy to answer. You might want to take a look at some of the trip reports several member have attached to their signitures. Heather hstrickland just returned from her vacation staying there. Most of us have been to AKL and/or Kadani many times but also stay at other resorts. I am doing three resorts including AKL CL on our fall trip this year.

Your room location is perfect for seeing lots of animals from your balcony. What type of room configuation did you request? ie: two queens, one queen with bunkbeds, which might work if your 13 y.o. isn't too tall. WDW is so much fun and there is a lot to do and see. AKL has many activities for its guests and many of us try to spend at least part of a day enjoying the resort, pool and activities. Feel free to let us help if you have a thing you want to know.
Congratulations on your upcoming trip! pixiedust:

Ann, glad your friend seems to be doing better. You and Tim must be good medicine for him. :goodvibes

:) That would be wonderful

Glad you had some positive time with your friend - prayers for him and his family!

Thank you Linda.

And thank you for all the Zebra Domes and Fruch each week you post. Little over two months and I will be there enjoying some in person. ::yes::

Happy Sunday evening all.

Ann

I was planning on going to BOMA after visiting the Animal Kingdom Park. Given the proximity of AK Park to the Animal Kingdom Lodge....how long does it usually take to get from the AK Park to the Resort?

I assume that 90 minutes is more than enough time...but I assume that it won't take that much time to get there.

Also...if we arrive early...are we able to walk around the "public areas" of the resort to see and take pictures of animals and stuff?

Hi guys! I've been following the board and I had another question. The Sunrise Safari looks like a really cool experience, but I've heard conflicting reports. Is it only available to people who book CL or can anyone book it now? I would love to do it, but booking AKL was a bit of a stretch to begin with, and I don't think I could pay more to be on CL just to do the tour. :scared:

I have a lot of catching up to do on this thread. Going to start here.

Laura, So glad you had a great time. It is always so great to get away with family and relax. I love cruising because you can be as lazy or busy as you want. Welcome back....you were missed! :goodvibes 43 days until you WDW trip Wow Congrats!

We are doing the Sunrise safari in October, the price is still $65.00 pp. I think it is reasonable for the whole great experience with breakfast. I am sure some things have changed since our visit about eight years ago. I will have to report back to the thread after our visit. But I am excited to experience it again.
The highlight of my whole trip that year was being on that safari early in the morning and they had just let the giraffes out into the savannah. There were about nine of them walking toward us in the mist and right up to and around the safari vehicle. It was so Awesome! I get goose bumps just thinking about it. :cloud9:

Thanks, Ann! Getting back into the daily grind hasn't been easy!! :rotfl2:

I agree about the Sunrise Safari -- I think it's one of the best deals out there! We've done it 6 times; decided to do the Wanyama in October instead (we have some catching up to do - have only done that one once!) ;)

Absolutely! You should plan to get there early and explore the resort. :thumbsup2 Lots of areas to take pictures. Walk out the back by Arusha Rock and talk to the guides there. They are from different regions of Africa and each has a fascinating story to tell. :goodvibes

Enjoy! ;)

Sunrise Safari is only for guests staying Club Level at AKL. The Wanyama (Sunset) Safari is open to any AKL guest, however the cost is significantly higher ($190) and no one under age 8 is permitted. (All ages are welcome on the Sunrise Safari.) :)

It is about a 10 minute ride from the AK park to AKL. Perhaps five minutes longer if you take a WDW bus because it stops at Kadani first. You are more than welcome to walk all over the public areas of the resort and take pictures. It has some of the most beautiful hand-carved wood in the lobby... the lobby is so amazing. There are public viewing areas around the resort where you can sit in rocking chairs and view the animals and your are under cover if it is raining or if you have had enough of the hot sun. The arusha rock is straight out the back doors where they have guides who will help you with night vision glasses, offer information and talk with you about the animals. There is also a fire pit out there where African stories are shared by some of the CM's who are from Africa. They usually start their story time by sharing about their home country and traditions or stories.

Boma is wonderful, food is very good. Make sure you make an ADR that night as we have had problems getting in for same night dinner while staying at the resort. I have learned to book in advance. It is a buffet, but very popular.

The Sunrise Safari is only for concierge guests and it is only offered on two mornings of the week. Thursday is one and I am not sure about the other. We are going on a Thursday. :goodvibes I have heard of people booking one night at CL level to allow them to attend either the special CL only activities. I don't know if that is something you would consider doing, but it is an option, without having to stay CL level your entire stay.

Laura, Looks like we were posting at the same time....only I got up to prep something for dinner then came back hit post after spell check. :rotfl: Sorry, didn't realize you had already answered their questions.

We have done the Wanyama three times, so this year we are just going to eat at Jiko's and order just what we can eat. :) I love the Wanyama, animals, guides and the interactions with other guests. But, I alway eat too much. ::yes::

Thanks to both of you for responding. Depending on the wait...it sounds like I should be able to leave about 30 minutes to get from the AK Park to the AKL. I don't mind walking around just to look at the Public Areas and to see what the AKL Resort looks like. I like to see what $1000 more in Resort reservations will get me. ;)

You 'spell check'?!!! :worship: Maybe I should try that sometime! :scratchin

:rotfl2:

Good morning Js & Ks!!! :)

Elin, Sorry you are so busy now. I was thinking of you the other day. I am looking for an AP discount for our AKL portion of our trip starting September 30th. Remember back in 2010 we both were sweating out getting one on an AP thread. :) You were so sweet and PM'd me because you are three hours ahead of us. That helped me so much. Thanks again

I remember that, Ann! Gee, that seems like a lifetime ago, doesn't it??

Your friends are so lucky to have you in their lives. You are such a sweet and caring person. How lucky are we that we have you here with us!! :goodvibes

Sunday is the other morning. :thumbsup2

Thursday morning would be our first morning so that would be out and I'm hoping to go out for drinks and dancing on Saturday night (since neither of us have to drive for once) so Sunday morning would be out too. I feel better about not doing CL now.:rotfl: :-) Thanks guys!
