Oh Sweet Mother of Bread Pudding...What have I got myself into? 9/26 Update!

Hey!! Is the sister in labour the one you and I talked about on skinny island a few months ago?

I had some news on that front...with my friend that is also pregnant (the other person we talked about during that same conversation)...I got a grudging compliment from her a couple of Sundays ago.

It was particularly humorous because she made no secret of the fact that it pained her to tell me that I looked "really nice" in the outfit I was wearing. And because I can read her thoughts I suddenly knew that she had been thinking that all along but not saying anything (and been unhappy about the fact that she had to admit, it if only to herself) and I was suddenly very, very happy.

Yep...I'm still and evil, selfish and small...but it was dang satisfying, I tell ya!

Congrats on the newest addition to the family and we'll be here when you're able to get back to us!

A bit of intro to get this Food Porn on it's way!

Dan and I planned ahead on sharing many meal so you often will see us or Baylor and I splitting entrees. Dan cannot eat beef, rice and lately French Fries so he will not be of any help on those reviews. (A previous surgery he had, has left him with these foods being a no go!)

We were on the dining plan while at Disney but paid for some things OOP which we thought were a waste of a snack credit, some adult beverages or food not able to be charged as a meal plan.

Can I say I have no idea how some people can eat all the food available on a dining plan? No clue. We saw people 1/2 our size plowing through full plates on their own and Dan and I as plump people, were slack jawed at the food going into their gullet. We wound up wishing we had not claimed Baylor came in at all because that meant he was on the dining plan even when he was not there plus we did not really use the dining plan either until the 3rd full day.

We learned a lot again and some places we thought were going to be a hit were a total let down and had the best surprises on meals not planned. We canceled some reservations and moved others up to better meet our needs and having a party of 3 made those requests a lot more flexible.

A few things we learned is this:

#1 Eat breakfast before 9 a.m. If you do this you will miss the crowds of sleeper inners and can usually get seated at a TS like Boma's with little or no wait.

#2 Boma Breakfast...just dumped the sausage skillet with curry. Replaced with a corn beef hash concoction that was good but seriously folks, why not delete a non seller from the menu instead of taking away the favorite? Our waitress was equally upset and said we should let them hear about it!

#3 Raglan Road is a 2 TS show on a one TS credit!!! I know it is not billed as a show but it beat the Spirit of Aloha disaster for us by a long shot!

#4 WPE breakfasts are amazing!!!

#5 Don't waste a CS credit or $1 on anything Disney calls a hot dog. I have had more flavor from tap water!

I am really going to try and keep the Food Reviews here strictly without any TR stories but it is going to be hard and vice versa!!!

Day 1/ 1st Foods of the Road Trip:

That's right...juice! It was early in the morning so neither Dan or I felt the need for food yet. It was the Blueberry version and my favorite! I usually stick to eating fruit but if I am going to have a juice, this is it. All natural, no sugar added, thicker than normal juice and a filling treat. If your kids are not eating enough fruit, freeze these in Popsicle makers and you are all set! Also great frozen for teething babies - you can water them down to freeze for little kids if they will have more than one a day!

Simple and refreshing...it was cold from the fridge at the Gas Station and hard to screw up! It get's a:

Next stop was 40 minutes down the road and are stomachs finally kicked in. Mc D's was the destination and I enjoyed a egg/bacon/cheese bagel.

P1090188.jpg

I do not mind the eggs here and the bagel was soft and chewy, not Frisbee worthy yet! Bacon was crisp and all would have been right in the world if the cheese would have been melted! What is up with FF chains these days? I do not frequent them unless we are traveling or in a pinch but every time I have in the past few months, the cheese is not melted. :teacher:

If the cheese is not melted it does not stick to the egg or bun and just texturally, is like a slab of cold cardboard was thrown in as an afterthought. The cheese seals the sandwich, keeps in the heat so the first bite and last are warm and it takes seconds to melt a piece of American (even the fake stuff) so what gives? :confused3

Dan got a sausage bagel with cheese, please hold the egg since he thinks it tastes like a chemically induced chicken must have laid it. ;)

P1090189.jpg

His bagel was also still maneuverable, no need to put it through a food processor to eat yet but without the egg, a carb-overload IMO. He found it just perfect and liked the sausage because it was not leaving a grease trail everywhere. Again, cheese not melted and besides being a reasonable replica of real food, not very exciting.

We give it a :

I mean lets get real, it's Mc Donald's so the chances of an A are slim. :sad2: It might have had an Emeril for it's top shot but that cheese will lower you a peg or two every time! Overall, a decent meal for weary and sleepy travelers but no must have again!

Our first snack of the trip was cookies Dan had bought in Omaha at Eileen's, when he was there a few days before on his travels for work. We each tried a Macadamia nut one.

P1090197.jpg

We totally disagreed on these. Yes they were 4 days old so not fresh but they were still soft and chewy. Not too crumbly like stale cookies can be. They had the right ratio of nuts to dough and you were neither scouring the surface for a nut to enjoy or working your teeth through an aerobic circuit trying to chew thoroughly.

Dan thinks they are wonderful and had others on our journey. He thinks they are fantastic and deserve a Paula. He describes them as buttery and mouth watering and I explain that if he means buttery like a scoop of white Crisco, he is dead on! :lmao:

I found no flavor. No almond, no flecks of sugar, no anything. Like cookies they serve in nursing homes trying to fake the senior citizens into thinking they might actually get something with flavor! (Maybe Dan liking them is not so strange since he is much older than I!!!:lmao:) I tasted no white chocolate and even the nuts had no earthy tones to them.

Dan gave them an:

because they would have to have been fresher to know the true Paula worthiness.

I give them an:

because I felt like I wasted good calories on a no tasting tofu cookie!

Our next bought treat was some fudge from the Amana Colonies in Iowa. Homemade and buttery good!

Dan got his go to favorite of Mint Fudge. It had equal portion of a mint fudge and a chocolate fudge that had been mixed while warm and swirled. It was not grainy and did not leave a sugared texture in your mouth after. Dan loves mint and usually complains when he feels something is not "Minty" enough or "Lemony" enough if he is eating his other favorite flavor.

I had a Heath bar toffee fudge!

Glorious chocolate with toffee bits sprinkled on top. Like Dan, I felt this was one of the best Fudges ever! We just got enough for each to have a small piece and one thing I should have had them do was but it in 2 separate boxes. Mint is not my friend and it clings to anything within reach! The aroma and flavor is used for bad breath certs and gum for a reason!!

We both loved these and saved 1/2 for later.

They get a:

I have had plenty of screwed up fudge in my day. Too hard, too greasy, too burnt, too dense and just plain flavorless. This was perfection in chocolate! Like Shemar Moore! :rotfl2:

Ok who else could inspire 8+ pages of subscriptions - thanks for a great intro. Can't wait to read more.

Okay I'm subscribing. I thought I had before but I was obviously mistaken:confused3 I am totally completley in, love your rating system and can't wait for more reviews.

Also.....RAGLAN ROAD bread pudding usurped Ohana's by a landslide!!! I might have experienced a Meg Ryan, "When Harry met Sally," moment at the table!!!

I don't want to say it BUT ... I told ya so!!! Best ever Disney dessert!!!:woohoo::love:

I'm picturing you having a Meg Ryan moment while eating your bread pudding .... :rotfl2:

I am in and ready! Now back to read the previous 4 or 5 pages I have already missed! How the heck did I miss THIS report??

Edit: 8 pages! WTH?? :scared1:

What a great start!!! I love the Naked juice -- so yummy! And I'm drooling all over the Bacon, Egg and Cheese Bagel. My one favorite thing from McD's. And the cheese-not-melted thing... Happens here too. Grrr...

I must admit, seeing this post has made my day! It is good to know that there are others out there that feel like they are simply good eaters - having major obsessions over what to eat, cook, indulge in. I am loving the grading system! I think Guy Fieri should have his own grade for those places that are slightly jenky (like those on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives), but have an absolutely delicious and innovative food selection! Can't wait to see what is to come!

How can I be 9 pages behind already?? ARGGGG....Dawn, you got some 'splaining to do. Aren't you supposed to notify me when you start writing new things? Ok, back to read and catch up (again, still, yet, whatever.)

It was a boy!!! Here is a comparison of Caden and my niece Skyler when she was born!
