Can you order a princess treasure chest at CRT?
If you order a cake for CRT what bakery do you order it from?

Thanks for all of the pictures. Now I just need to figure out which kind we want for our trip. :goodvibes

Here is my take on the cake thing. If you are a couple or 2 people there are not very many options. The celbrate today option. 21 dollars no decorations, the mini wedding cake but no coloring. I like the mickey cake but way too big! So I think we will just order some chocolate strawberries and a minnie figure.

If you pick up the cake at the Boardwalk Bakery, do you stilll have to pay the 18% you get charged if it is delivered to the room?

No. That charge is for Private Dining to deliver it.

Dunno about the treasure chest, but there are two ways to order a full cake for CRT - either call the Cake Hotline posted on the first page of this thread or call Private Dining at the Contemporary and ask to have one made to be delivered.

The Cake Hotline will have fewer cake options but be slightly easier and cheaper. Calling Private Dining and getting through to a pastry chef takes some doing, and the prices aren't cheap, but you'll have many more options for a spectacular-looking cake.

Okay, I am curious.

To the folks who ordered cakes and did not get what they ordered, received badly made cakes, stale cakes, horrible icing...did you contact management??? I mean, come on, if you are paying so much for a quality Disney cake, I would demand quality! They aren't doing you a favor by accepting your order; you are the customer. If you did speak with management what was the outcome? Thanks!

I did talk to Pat (the lady who took my order and is responsible for the cakes at the GF apparently) and she seemed confused that I was unhappy with how stale my cake tasted. She told me that she never hears complaints about cakes there and then proceeded to tell me that I didn't know what a custom cake should taste like. I told her that it should at least taste good, there was zero flavor to the chocolate cake I ordered, the filling was wrong, it was stale and cost $100. Again she kept reiterating that I must not be familiar with custom cakes. I told her that not only was my cake lacking flavor but it tasted stale and dry. She said it was impossible as they bake their cakes fresh. Later on in the conversation she admitted they make them at least 3-4 days in advance and then put them in the freezer. It was a very frustrating conversation and she promised to refund part of my $ which she never did. Frankly I was fed up with talking to her, she kept changing her mind every 2 minutes so I never followed up as to why she didn't refund like she promised.

I'm sure my story is rare as lots of people here have had fabulous cake experiences. And I'm still contemplating ordering one despite my past outcome with the GF. Here's a pic of my cake:

Something like this:

Or rather, the scene where they are looking at her in the bassinet, which I can't find quickly online.

To those who have ordered from chef Brian: DId you find that the cake had really good flavour too? ALl these cakes are so beautiful, but I really LOVE cake so I want a good tasting cake too! THanks in advance!

Sounds so neat! Can't wait to see pics. Mary Poppins is one of my favorites too!

If you look in the cake pictures, you can see the Mary Poppins carousel cake that the GF did for my mom back in 2009. I think it is called "Jolly Holiday" in the list. It was really cute. The amount of detail was amazing on such a small cake. I was quite pleased.

That is cute. Thanks for the reference!

I thought ours was sort of leaden—it was not dry, at least, but the chocolate cake was not particularly flavorful even with the addition of chocolate chips and chocolate filling. I think Publix cake have a more tender crumb, so to speak.

I don't think this is any reflection on Chef Brian, though. Disney has a certain process for making fancy cakes, and it's all about looks, not flavor. Things are made ahead of time, refrigerated, etc. I've never had a Disney cake I thought tasted bad, they just haven't been that memorable.

For flavor, I prefer the sort of "gourmet homemade" cakes done by places like SusieCakes or Magnolia Bakery. That's not the business Disney is in, though.

Before our stay at the Animal Kingdom Kidani village, I researched ordering a cake. The process to order was a little confusing, but I managed. The cake was going to be for my adult daughter's birthday and my daughter in law's birthday so I asked if there were going to be any flowers or anything on it. I was told that there would be some flowers on the cake. The cake was delivered to our room as scheduled. However, that is where the satisfaction ended. The outer edges of the cake itself was stale. There was not a flower in sight! It was completely plain, with a couple of thin chocolate Mickey Mouse medallions on it. I ordered buttercream icing but I am not sure that is what we got. The frosting was pretty bad. We are definitely a cake eating family and no one wanted seconds the next day. I ended up throwing it away. For the money it cost, it should have been a lot better than that. Very disappointing. I would probably do it again simply because you have to have a birthday cake on somebody's birthday and this appears to be the only game in town.

If you took pictures of your cake send a nice letter to "Private Dining" at AKV showing them what you got, what you asked for, the taste, etc. And if as an FYI if you have a car there is a Publix not to far from AKV and I have yet to be disappointed with a Publix cake. :)

After receiving the cake I immediately called Private Dining to mention that I did not get what I had asked for decoration wise, we hadn't tasted the cake yet or else I would have mentioned that too. Private Dining, in an effort to appease me, said that they'd take off the cost of the stand-up decoration. Once home I sent a letter to AKV Private Dining because if they are going to be making cakes for a pretty penny there should be a certain standard that the cakes meet and hopefully exceed. I wasn't expecting anything but really just wanted to vent my frustration at having such high expectations for my birthday cake and being very disappointed. In my letter I included a picture of my cake and pictures of two other cakes that had been made at AKL but, unlike mine the other cakes were amazing. I included info about what I ordered, how it was sitting out on our counter (AKV one bedroom) uncovered even though the candles were sealed up tight, how it had absolutely no taste, how the decorations were nowhere near what I had requested or told I would get, the poor quality of the decorations, and how even though there were four adults and three children available to eat it that we threw more than half of an six or eight inch cake away. I eventually got a call from a lady in Private Dining and we talked about the cake. She assured me that she would be meeting with the cake team(s) and go over my issues and hopefully they would start making better tasting and better looking cakes. Even though I never asked for it she offered, and did, refund me the entire cost of the cake.

While I was pleased with being refunded the cost for the cake I would have gladly paid what I was originally going to be charged, and then some, if the cake would have been pretty and tasted good.

Has anyone inquired about a vinylmation cake? I'm thinking of celebrating my birthday at WDW again this year and was thinking a vinylmation birthday cake would be fun!

After lurking on these boards for along time, I finally took the plunge and ordered a cake.

Brief History, DF proposed at HS on Dec 21, 2009. We also are planning a DFTW as well and didn't think we would get back there before that.

But as luck would have it, we found out in Mid-May that we would actually have a few days to ourselves (aka no kids!) in mid-June and decided, why not got to Disney. Perfect. We can celebrate his Birthday while we are there.

When we decided to go, we wasted no time and got right to work with planning. I decided since the last 2 years, his Birthday cake was nice..but each time messed up by the local bake shop...a cake would be in order.

I was hesistant since I have seen some awesome looking cakes but also heard some horrible stories as well. And a $100 for a cake for 2 people...no offense, I'd rather buy him a sweatshirt or something for that! :rotfl2:

But, I finally convinced myself to do it. I considered having it at the Brown Derby...but then you can't do fondant. Yachtsman...seems to have a good reputation...but we are going straight back to Epcot afterwards...hmmm cake left in a hot rental car, probably not the best option. Citrico's on the last night...perfect :thumbsup2. And since I am not a big risk taker, I just ordered a mini two tier wedding cake from GF...seriously how bad can they mess it up?

Well, the jury is still out on it..I will let you know once we return on June 23rd! Connie took my order, told me it serves 1, was $30 and just to let them know at the podium when we checked in, I had a special occasion cake ordered. She only asked what flavor of cake and what writing did I want on the plate. I know it's not a big custom cake or anything, but I thought you got a few other choices. Guess not..well, I'm sure it will be lovely :rotfl: or at least not any worse than the last two years cakes! :confused3

Get out the magic wands and sprinkle us with Pixie Dust...this should be interesting! :wizard:

Has anyone had any experiences with cakes on the Disney cruise line? We are considering a cruise in Dec. 2011 and our daughters 16th birthday would be during the cruise. Maybe I should I also put this on the cruise forum but I thought I'd ask. Thanks!

You can get one or have one as part of a Bon Voyage package where they decorate the room. They are really good. It is a sponge cake with a picture of the Disney ship in white chocolate. The waiters will sing for you too.

We just had a Mad hatter cake for my DH's birthday. Vanilla cake with a white chocolate mousse filling. All seven of us loved it! It was a very yummy and moist cake!

I am planning on ordering another cake in October for DS's 5th birthday - Get ready Chef Brian! :rotfl: (Hint: It's pirate's life for my DS)
