Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

Don't worry about it. Most candids of me in recent years do not look good. I need to really focus on losing weight now.

I was pretty close to someone in a WISH shirt the whole time... I'm not sure who, though. Suzanne? Maybe. Anyway, she looked familiar and had on a WISH shirt. I yelled, "GO WISH!" at her around mile 4.5 and I was wearing a purple shirt.

I saw some WISHers on the sideline at some point that I yelled at, too. I don't have any WISH stuff so I think they thought I was nuts. :)

During the race, I did have green ribbons tied to the ends of my braided pigtails and said hi to some Wishers I saw along the way. I talked to one of you with a WISH shirt on before we were going onto the circle on ramp. I definitely need to order a WISH shirt next time orders come around.

That was me!!!! I remember you telling me you had green ribbons in your hair for Wish!

Thats me!!! :wave2:

The longest finish time I saw on the official results was 4:03, and it appears that people on here saw people swept?

Does anyone know the official count of how many started the race?

Yes people were definitely swept. One of my friends who did the race was swept around mile 8, she did not finish but I am totally proud of her!!

Anyone happen to have a picture/pictures of the official merchandise section at the expo? I was going to try to call Disney Merchandising or one of the local stores and see if I could phone order a leftover shirt, but I wanted to refresh my memory as to which ones were there. I think I was leaning toward getting the tank top, but I want to be sure I have a good description of it on the phone. Thanks!

It is a HECK of a lot better than never started!! I am proud of her too!! :goodvibes

This is sick and twisted but now I am looking for another race. Not sure if I want to do a 5K, a 10K, or a half? Only bad thing is that I live in NC and it gets HOT down here starting next month...

Blakely,
I'm sorry we didn't have a chance to meet you at POR - there was only the one WISH meet going on at Port Orleans that I know of, and time you see a WISHer you see wearing a WISH shirt or hat, we're wearing it because we want to meet other WISHers! Goodness knows, it is not the most flattering color.

The thing about the WISH team in general is: if you want to be part of the group, WISHers are always happy to meet and include other WISHers, whether or not you are wearing green, whether or not we've encountered each other on-line and whether or not it's a big meet or just a few of us in a park or even Jellyrolls. Meeting someone at a race or a meet is often the start of new friendships, so please, in the future come on up and say hello!

Here are my photos from the Princess Meet:

That was totally you guys! I watched you guys take the pics, etc. The funny thing is my mom is in your photo.....in the first pic she has a white jacket on in the very middle. I should have popped over, I'm not officially on the WISH list, I honestly don't know much about what you have to do to be on those teams, etc. Kind of embarrassed to ask.

Anyway, I have been following this thread the past few months, but was afraid I would be like "I'm Brooke" and you guys who be thinking...and who is that??, lol!

DH and I crossed the finish line with the other couple we went with, which was awesome! My friend was just concentrating on finishing and didn't stop for anything. DH and I lost them in the first mile, but I kept stopping to take pics of the mile markers and the characters and was so excited when I saw them catching up to us when I was getting a photo with Belle and the Beast!

I was wearing a long sleeved cotton shirt, under a T shirt, under 2 sweatshirts under a big winter coat and I had gloves and scarf and I was FREEZING waiting for the race to begin. I also was wearing pants. I finally ditched my coat coming up under the bridge toward the MK! So it took me almost 6 miles before I felt heat. I don't know how people survived in skimpier clothing - and I saw plenty!
I was excited to be in Corral D, as I thought I'd be in the last. It took me the first several miles to feel the bottom of my feet. I thought we deserved a medal for getting to the start line! :rotfl:

I think doing this was a lot like child birth; total excitement and concern about the race getting closer, numbing feeling during, immediately following this there was a feeling like once was enough (accompanied by aches and exhaustion), but now that a week has passed....I could see myself doing it again in a couple of years! Honestly, I could have finished faster than my 3:19 if I hadn't stopped for so many photos and wanting to cross the finish with my friends at the end, but the time didn't really matter for me. When I signed up, I guessed 3:15, but I could barely walk more than 6 miles just a couple of months ago. I am really proud of my medal (which is beautiful, btw).

We met lots of people, and a couple of Dis'ers, but I can't remember the names  Congratulations to all who did this!

I am signed up for the Disneyland Half that is in September (Labor Day weekend). I'm in New Orleans and it gets HOT down here too. Summer should be fun...:rotfl:

And yes, sick and twisted....I just want that Coast to Coast medal!

So sorry to hear that she got swept, but tons of kudos to her for even getting out there and trying! Please tell her I'm proud of her as well!! I don't know that I would have finished if I didn't have such an awesome teammate!:thumbsup2

The simple fact that she made an attempt to do it is WONDERFUL :love: Please remind her that, that morning many people decided to sleep and she woke up determined to make a differance in her life and she accomplished that goal

I was told by Disney Endurance that 565 people either got swept and/or could not finish due to medical reasons and/or mentally just could not get over the "wall" of having to finish.

Next year, she will ROCK!! and finish it strong :cool1:

I am with you on that and can't wait until Disneyland! :cool1: I definitely want the Coast to Coast Medal!! I may do the Wine & Dine and the Disney Princess next year to get the Coast to Coast again (if they offer it again). I will stick to the treadmill, but the forecasters have been saying that the South is going to be unusually cool for April, May and June. Granted, they can always be wrong...

It is a bummer that some people were swept, but it is an accomplishment to start and get through most of the race. Heck, getting up as early as we all did and freezing for a couple hours was a huge accomplishment! :goodvibes I hope that all those swept try again next year and finish! :cheer2:

Hi all,

We were at WDW from 3/3-3/7, and (obviously) saw lots of gals running around with medals on Sunday... and I was super jealous. I'm not a runner, or an athlete at ALL, but I started training today for Princess 2011.

I walked/ran for 45 minutes today... 3.4 miles. It felt good! :lovestruc

I don't have any pics, but a spinoff of this question...what do we expect them to do with the leftover merch? I didn't purchase anything at the Expo expecting to be able to get stuff after the race (rookie mistake). I tried to make it thru the merch tent after the race but it was so crowded I gave up.

I've heard from several people the leftovers go to local Disney World outlets, and someone else saw leftovers at the WWOS ESPN shop. I'm going to give them a call today and see what they've got left. They may not want to make a sale over the phone, but it's worth a try.

I love this! That's how it starts! My friends and I did the Royal Family 5k this year - our first Disney event, and for some of us our first "real" running event. It was a blast. On Sunday morning when we departed WDW on our 5:30 a.m. Magical Express bus (don't ask) and passed by all of those runners corraled for the big run, I felt bummed out that we didn't do the Half instead. So I'm talking my crew into it for 2011, because I WILL BE THERE!!

Good luck roomthreeseventeen! :goodvibes

Congrats on starting your training! That is awesome! The same thing happened to me. In 2009 I was six months pregnant at Disney with my family and saw all the Princess runners. I thought, I want to do that next year. And I did!!! So you can do it, too! Good luck and keep up posted!!
