Do you wear your seat belt ?
Every time you drive ?
Or get in a vehicle ?

I'm like pretty upset right now. I'm always encouraging Garrett to wear his when he drives. I usually text him right before I know he's about to drive to remind him to put it on.

My best friend got in a horrible wreck in July, that would have taken her life if she wouldn't have had a seat belt on.

About 4pm. I got a text from Garrett telling me he just got in a minor wreck.

It's been pouring all day, so the roads are VERY wet. He was going around a curve and slid into a ditch, then tried to get back onto the road before he crashed, and he fishtailed across the road.

Of coarse the first thing I ask is..

"Was you wearing your seat belt?"
"I don't remember baby"
"You wasn't huh?"
"I don't think so.."
"Of coarse you wasnt.."

I know, I shouldn't have caught an attitude like that, but it's just what I went through in July.. sitting in the ER for 6 hours with my best friend laying in a hospital bed, hooked up to IV's and doctors coming in and out. I do NOT want to go through that again with my boyfriend.

Then a few texts later went like this..

Me- "You just don't understand do you?"
Him- "Yes I do. Trust me.. I do."
Me- "No you really don't. Garrett, I came VERY close to burying my best friend last summer. You know if she didn't have her seat belt on, she wouldn't have made it out. You saw that truck, you know what happened. I'm not going through that with you. I refuse to go through that again."

So.. now it's kinda calmed down..

I'm just talking to him, trying to get him calm, and get his mind off of it.

Was I wrong for saying them things to him ? I just really care about him, and I don't want anything bad happening to him. I just want him to realize how a seat belt can really save his life..

He was probably freaked out enough by getting into an accident that from now on the first thing he will do is put on a seatbelt.

You said nothing wrong, you only told him you care about him, and you told him the truth about your friend.

Whether it was something you said or the accident itself, I am sure he learned his lesson.

I think it's ridiculous that at that age, and in this day and age you have to remind someone to wear a seatbelt.

I always have one on. It is a law, and it is not infringing upon me in any way.

i ALWAYS wear a seatbelt, always have always will. and i make everyone wear a seatbelt when i'm in a car with them.
i think it is completely brainless for someone to not wear a seatbelt.

on the subject of car accidents, i got in an accident about a week and a half ago when it was rainy out, i hit my brakes and since it was slippery out i just didn't stop, scared the life out of me, totally wrecked my car (we just got a new one b/c of it) and i was really lucky i wasn't hurt too badly! (minor bruising) but now when i drive i am SO careful to make sure i have enough room to stop. today i drove in rain for the first time since the accident and i was SO scared! but it definitely made me be more careful!

and this is totally OT but i think the way you talk(/type) is completely adorable Kelsi. (like how you say 'i shouldn't caught an attitude like that', it's so cute! no one around here talks like that i think it's so sweet hehe)

I always wear mine.
The first time I drive someone in my car I'll make it a for serious rule that everyone wear seatbelts.

i think its absolutely insane that someone needs to be reminded to wear their seatbelt. i have never forgotten to wear mine. i have never chosen not to wear mine. every time i've been in a car for 18 years, i have worn my seatbelt.

I always wear mine too. In my car a little siren-ish noise starts going if you are going over 10mph without a seatbelt, so people get annoyed if they don't have it on. That always gets them to do it.

I saw something on your facebook about you getting a new car, but I didn't know you wrecked yours! But I'm glad to hear you're okay.

That wreck my friend got in was during a thunderstorm too. She hydroplaned and ran into the side of a concrete bridge. They were dangling on and off the bridge upside, for about five minutes before they found a way to get out of the truck. It put a HUGE triangle sized crack in the CONCRETE! I cringe everytime I pass it and see it. o_O

Haha, I've never realized I talk differently from anyone else on here. I guess it's a southern thing (;

You were just giving him tough love, Kelsi. Don't worry, he knows you're just trying to protect him.

Anyway, I always wear my seatbelt when I drive/ride in a car. I feel naked without it, especially when driving. Besides, the car would ding like crazy if the driver didn't have a seatbelt on, and that noise is really irritating.

I always wear a seatbelt ... I have a Jeep & when you drive on some of these roads up here, you need a seatbelt just to keep yourself in the seat!!

Also very important when driving with the top down (on the Jeep, not me :lmao: ).

lol

Yes, I do wear mine everytime I drive. But its funny because before I learned to drive, I didn't always wear the seatbelt. But now that I do, its a habit and I don't have to think about it.

I wear my seat beat all the time, no matter who is driving. My friends used to make fun of me for wearing it but I couldn't care less what they say.

If I'm driving, I make everyone put on their seat belts or I won't move.

Most of the time I do, realistically the only time I don't is normally when I'm in a church van or when I'm just getting a ride to school or back and my mom's not driving
When ever I drive I always where my seatbelt since I'm a new driver and it would be super dangerous of me not to

its a law in australia to wear a seatbelt. if the driver or a passenger gets caught not wearing one, the driver gets fined and loses points from their licence.
my car beeps if you turn it on without a seatbelt on.

i think its just common sense really.

Well... it's super dangerous to not wear your seat belt any time you're in a car, not just because you're a new driver. I've seen some grisly scenes in my life.

When I was younger I hated seatbelts, I'm not sure what it was, maybe because it would cut into my neck?

Now, I always wear one, it's an automatic reaction.

I think you did a good job telling him how you feel. He needs to understand that, so nothing serious happens next time.

I can't drive, but I ALWAYS wear my seatbelt. It's a law.

Oh and about you talking/typing like that, that's how we all sound down here, hah :] (I just don't type like it)
