O.K, O.K., Here are my first pictures...
Wildlife aboard the Disney Magic:
Did anyone else notice this little phenomenon? I have never seen animals (except for children
lol) on the ship before...
This little guy was hitching a ride on the outside of the portholes in the Atrium.
Alright... now I want to see if anyone has any pictures of wildlife aboard our ship....
OK. I'll admit, I should not have this story. My family was not pleased. But seriously, it wasn't my fault. Leading into the cruise, I had ignored my allergy meds (ok, that part was my fault), and produced a throat infection. In short, I was miserable, despite the great improvements since a few days before the cruise. I was almost ok during the day, but couldn't sleep well. I hadn't slept more than 3 hours each night the 2 days leading into the cruise (my excitement had nothing to do with that, I'm sure...). The first few nights of the cruise were little better. The night leading in to our day at sea, I woke up at 2am. There was no hope of going back to sleep. I went out onto our veranda (oh, so many, many nice things to say about having that), and did Sudoko puzzles for an hour. The whole time, I was chastising myself for taking a boat noise I could hear and interpreting it as something else - in this case, it sounded like thousands of birds flying around. Which, of course, we're out to sea, so there's no way. Around 3:30, I went upstairs to get some tea, and I'll be darned, there really
were thousands of birds. I couldn't believe it. They were everywhere. There were dozens of them parked on the boat, and just hundreds, if not thousands, flying over the boat. I did get the camera, but I'm not my husband, and I had no chance of getting a good picture. At 6am, while I was getting my third cup of tea (I knew it would be a lloooong day), I met up with a cast member (there were remarkably few of them around until about 6am) who said it does occasionally happen, and that there were the most at about 2am that morning (at which time I kicked myself for not going up to check right away!). If anyone ever encounters this again, I suggest going by the basketball court, as there are lots of lights, and the birds liked landing on the netting around the court.
(note the additional birds in the background)
My biggest regret? Not waking up my husband, the camera expert, and dragging him upstairs at 3am. Seriously, I shouldn't be allowed near anything but a point-and-click camera. Oh, well.
I did manage to wander the ship for a few hours that morning and take pictures with the ship looking completely empty. I'll admit, I paid for my nighttime endeavors later that day, but I a) had some great pictures and memories (including the birds!) and b) slept great the rest of the cruise!
I almost forgot! DH did catch a bird hanging out on the veranda the day we were at Cozumel:
Obviously, he knows what he's doing with the camera...and, well, having daylight is just plain cheating.
There. That's my contribution to keeping the thread going.
Who's up next??
